Totally agree, Sons of Garmadon is the best season objectively but Tournament of Elements is also right up there near the top. Season 4 was when Ninjago proved it was something special and could tackle these really intense and long form stories.

@@ertooo4324 We can judge a series by objective measures if we establish criteria to judge it by. In media, the assumed criteria are the theme of a story and how well said story communicated those themes, how consistent the internal logic of the story is, as well as other measures like pacing, animation quality, action, voice acting etc. When people use the term "objective" when referring to media criticism they are often implicitly saying that they are using these measures. With Sons of Garmadon, it expertly communicates it's themes through an excellent plot, characterization, and even motifs along with having the best animation and pacing of the show and a remarkably consistent internal logic in how the the characters are motivated and behave. That is why we say it is objectively the best season.

@@Obi-Wan_Kenobi All of this mentioned criteria is subjective in some form except for some parts of internal logic(which SoG certainly does not excel the most at). Quality is a matter of how much it appeals to what specific, different people enjoy, not necessarily a matter of budget or effort. First, all of these criteria are weighted differently to different people. Some people value animation over writing while others value pacing over themes. It is not objectively correctly in any way for one person to say that one of these qualities certainly outweighs the others simply because different people have different preferences. Second, just because SoG does well at many of these aspects doesn't mean that it is necessarily objectively the best in anyway. Many seasons similarly excel in many of the aforementioned qualities, and it isn't up to anyone to say that one is necessarily "objectively" the best over the others. I'll provide examples of this for all the mentioned qualities: SoG does well with its themes, but that doesn't automatically mean that it does the best with its themes. Skybound, for example, is also brilliant with its themes(according to me) through representing the struggle of choice between Jay, Nadakhan, Nya, and many other characters within the season. Which one is better? We can't give an objective answer, because people prefer different things. Perhaps the idea of choice resonates more with one person, while the idea of trust resonates more with the other. Even if for some reason one theme is clearly represented better than the other according to ourselves, we still cannot say that one is objectively better than the other in this aspect because some people may value different moments, symbols, or characters differently. Pacing is also entirely subjective. Again, everything is weighted differently. Some people like it when stories(personal example, s12) slow down because they give the plot time to breath; others like continuous action and plot development(like s8) the full way through because they want to be alert at all times. Moments in episodes can also be interpreted differently to be "fast" or "slow". One person might enjoy Cole singing in s8 and think that it goes by quickly, while another person might dread it and think it is slow as a result. Nonetheless, it again comes down to personal preference. Similarly, animation is subjective. There's a reason why people still like 2D animation over 3D, because detail does not always mean everything. Some might prefer s11's fluidity and less background detail over s8's greater background detail and less fluidity, but it doesn't come down to any of us to decide which is the correct preference. Even saying the animation is "direct upgrade" of another(i. e. s8 vs. s1) isn't objectively correct because some people might just prefer the more simplistic style of a show. By this point, I think you get my main point that almost everything listed is subjective. However, I believe that only one of these can even somewhat be considered objectively, which is story logic. Now, there are certainly still several subjective parts of this. Some people might not care about certain plot holes as much as other people, hence they are not as offended by them. Furthermore, some may actually enjoy less story logic because it immerses themselves into the story more. Of course, plot holes are certainly harms to stories, but it is up to different people to decide how they are weighted(and to be honest, almost any story that can be named probably has a plot hole in some way unless it is the most straightforward, boring story ever). Basically, the only fully objective way I see in comparing plotholes is like comparing a story of a person walking home and eating dinner to an entire fantasy story filled with plotholes; they barely even compare, and it tells us almost nothing that the former story is objectively better at logical inconsistencies than the fantasy story. Ninjago installments are certainly not an exception, as I am sure that each one has at least one plot hole. When summing all these qualities up: themes, characterization, logic, pacing, general production, etc., it is even more impossible to judge which story is overall objectively the best. Even if you think that one season happens to be the best in all story qualities due to personal preferences, it is certainly not an objective fact in that way because somewhere, someone else believes something different. I'm certainly not saying that these qualities cannot be argued over(in fact, I argue over them all the time). I just believe that it is objectively incorrect to say that one story is objectively the best because the criteria is not factual in anyway. This is not to say that there are not objective qualities in stories themselves like "the theme of trust exists" or "Wu is a heroic character", I'm just saying that objectivity does not belong in comparisons of this kind. In the end, it all comes down to how different criteria is weighted and assessed by different people, not one person. And personally, when I sum these things up, I can name two seasons that I personally find "better" than SoG even when trying to be as objective as possible according to my own judgement. This does not mean in any way that I hold the factually correct opinion and that SoG is objectively better or worse than any seasons that I personally hold above or below it. If we want to discuss what seasons we personally/subjectively find better using our own objective scales, I'm all here for it(but that is probably a discussion for another time). And I will admit, keeping a subjective tone can be hard at times(I certainly will admit that many things that I have written in an objective way are intended to be subjective). But objectivity in media(and several other things) is certainly fictitious and only exists to be overly assertive and un-open to different opinions.

@@siesaber6283 IKR! Time is just something not to be trifled with, and it is the reason that they don't have dragons or airjitsu anymore. The real reason is because they were too OP, but the canon reason is that time changed and yeh.

Yeah, making the previous ninja a distant memory is bad I loved them their OG designs were cool and I enjoyed it....I am getting used to the new ones but the og is always the best

@@justarandomfurbywithakitch903 I did enjoy it, but they made a lot of big mistakes in the writing departement. I thought Overlord was awesome in the season, and a good handful of the characters were done well, but man, it really messed up in some areas. The bad parts of it are really bad, but there’s enough good stuff in it that makes me still say I liked the season overall
