Hey thanks for watching the video, this video is all about which Smart Thermostat is best to buy in my opinion.
Here's some links to the products I talk about...
EPH Wireless programmable thermostat - bit.ly/2vz8Cr1
Honeywell Lyric T6 - bit.ly/2UQYGUi
Nest 3rd Generation thermostat - bit.ly/37x0CEf
My name is Jamie I'm an engineer at Hydroheat. Hopefully, by the end of this video you'll have a much better understanding about which smart thermostat is going to work best for your boiler, the problem we have is nobody online is spreading the word about which one works best with which boiler They're just saying this one's got good software, this one looks really nice, that's not really the important thing when it comes to picking a smart thermostat.
Now this video could easily be an hour-long of me talking about all of the technology and the the algorithms that they use and all this sort of stuff which most people are going to find boring, I am going to create a few more videos which go into a little bit more detail to explain you know what a modulating control is, what Opentherm is and what TPI is.
I'm going to share with you my three top thermostats that I recommend using, but I just want you to know that there are some boilers which will have smart thermostats available to them specifically, that are going to work better.
So let's start off with this thermostat here this is this is the wireless version and this is me by company called EPH control, many people think that smart thermostat is an app controlled thermostat when it's not, it's just that they have a different sort of thought process and are able to do calculations and they can remember data from previous times to be able to work out what's going to be best for efficiency in the long run.
So this is a smart thermostat control different time and temperature settings, it also has a holiday on it which means when you go on holiday you say I'm going to be back on this day at this time and when you come home you'll have a nice warm house. I definitely recommend this in terms of price point, you can pick these smart thermostats up for about 60 quid and depending on what's actually required, it's not a huge investment to be able to upgrade to a smart thermostat
These smart thermostats speak with an open language and TPI man it also has something called optimum start which means the smart thermostat will learn when it needs to come on to reach the temperature by the time set.
I wouldn't even bother trying to setup the scheduling on these smart thermostats themselves the apps are really user friendly and easy to use. so they also have a feature called geo-fencing, what that means is the thermostat will be connected to your phone and it will track where you are basically set of radius around your house and when that phone enters that that circle it will trigger on the heating because it thinks your coming home.
These smar thermostats can be connected to Alexa or Google home so you can literally say "Alexa turn the heating up by 2 degrees" and it will do it which is unreal to be honest.
Honeywell and the nest also have the products which you can connect to the same app so for example the Honeywell have smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and leak detection sensors which you can get connected to the same apps. Nest have indoor cameras, outdoor cameras and also have a really good smart doorbell, which has a camera on the front of the doorbell and it will get sent through to you as well so there's a lot of things that you can do with a lot of functionality that you can have with the thermostat. So the question is how much are these smart thermostats? The Honeywell you can pick up for £150 - £160, which I think is a really good price for the unit in. I have to say that my personal favourite one is this nest for £210, it's more expensive because it has this sensor at the bottom so as soon as you walk by it recognises that you're there. It will light up the screen to show you what the temperature is in that room.

Awesome job guys. I bought a ten year old villa with a high end heat pump, underfloor heating, multi zones, and numerous units. The thermostats are stupid complicated to change and program. Ten year old tech is terrible and the instructors make me beat my head on the wall. Too bad you can’t come to Italy and redo my entire system because it’s impossible to get a plumber here. I’ve been waiting for six months with no end in sight. Absolutely crazy. Happy I found your channel as I will have to do this myself. Keep up the great work! Cheers

Have the wired T6 start for two years now. Solid, easy to install and use, works well with google voice control. Geofencing works well as long as you smart phone is not battery managed much. Has opentherm so ready for current energy efficient boilers.

Lyric T6R is so easy to explain to customers. I've fitted plenty of the Esi Rf controls as well as the combipack4. I prefer the Nest over the hive. I find the manufacturers specific controls work best communicating with the controls. Some of my elder clients prefer the simplist of controls. So it has to be the Honeywell T4rf or the salus 510+rf.

Hi Jamie, I have a new Dunkirk DCB-125 here in the U.S. and it appears to have the same software as the Baxi boiler. I’m thinking Dunkirk used their open therm logic but they won’t recommend any thermostat to communicate with it. They said they had a soft rollout that they had problems with. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Dan F New York

Hi Jamie thanks for making this, when I try to talk to suppliers and gas fitters its like they are all talking on another level. I have a new Baxi boiler 6 months old and wanted a simple control that had a button that used to be called boost. Press once and the heating will come on for an hour and switch its self off. I want my boiler off but want to physically switch it on when I feel cold. I don't mind waking up to find its cold. As you know the cost of gas is frightening so I don't want auto modes just to be able to switch it on when I want it and to know it will go off by its self as I always forget to switch it off if I have to remember. Have you any suggestions? Many thanks

Hi Jamie, I have an older Valliant ecotec pro 28 boiler (pre v-smart technology). Which would be the best smart thermostat in your opinion? I am hoping that there is a product that would be compatible and more intelligent than a basic “on/off” thermostat (modulation). Thanks

Hi Ross, just picked this comment up now, the Nest thermostat will work great for your boiler or Baxi’s own thermostat the Usense I believe it’s called.

Hi Jamie. I have a question for you, hope that you can help me. I want to install a Ideal Vogue boiler in to my house and i'm really confuse, can i buy one of this thermostats, are they comply with boiler+ or i need to buy one from ideal and extra weather sensor for them to work as the should? Thank you. Really great video 👍👍

Hi Ion, I'm very sorry for the delay I don't seem to have notifications set up for some reason, so I'm only just seeing this now. You can indeed buy one of these thermostats, they all comply with boiler plus. You don't need to purchase ideals thermostats to comply. Hope that helps

Im replacing my boiler to probably worcester bosch 4000 is it better to get a nest or to get the Worcester bosch thermostat and why?
@jamie-theheatingguy4870

I would recommend the Worcester Bosch controller as it talks the right language for being as efficient as possible. The nest will not communicate as well as the Worcester controller 😊

Hi. I was watching this video until about 3:20. Then the story went from DIY advice to politics! You mention carbon footprint. I would like to, as an old engineer to get the facts and figures not the political indoctrination! Elvis left the building soon after...
@jamie-theheatingguy4870
@jamie-theheatingguy4870 Год назад
Hi Oddmund, I’m sorry if didn’t appreciate what it is I share in the video. But from engineer to engineer, what I talk about is being more efficient at managing the heat given from a radiator to match the specific heat loss from the building thus preventing wasted heat. Please don’t get lost in the politics, this is just more about being more comfortable.

Appreciate you taking the time to make this video Jamie, it’s helped me come to a decision. P.S. if somebody got offended by what they somehow saw as being political I think they need to get out more 🫣
