@LearnChristmasLighting David, I am a big fan of the EVO, but you missed the biggest drawback: the wire used is really thin and prone to ripping. I had 3 strands rip last year when putting up my mega tree. No worries though, Mattos replaced them under the warranty. I purposely bought extra, so I wasn't delayed all that much during setup. For those thinking of buying EVOs--Do not hesitate! Just treat them with care (don't yank on them). This year I am using 3300 EVOs on my mega tree (2400 on the tree and 900 for the Boscoyo Sphere V5 as the topper).

Evo, UL listed. No misleading AWG. Btw i run 9000 pixels, mostly 5v, but use 12v for icicles and long runs/borders. But I'm also one of those who runs 750 to 800 pixels on multiple ports

I see Mattos has an Evo with dual data lines... Thoughts or a video of the pros and cons. At first i was sold because I like the reliability, but do they have a different dimming curve or color differences vs single data line Evo pixel strings or vs standard bullet strings? Thanks.

Haven't seen them in person yet, I would guess that they would match the original EVO but have the backup data. Honestly, with the EVO's and other new types of pixels (like the NBG), they tend to be more reliable than standard pixels, so I think the need for dual data is low there.

Im thinking of getting into this as my new hobby. I have been doing research and watched most, if not all of your videos. I just have one question . I was wondering if there is any way on having your show start at a certain time and end at a certain time on its own?

Yes. The xLights application includes xScheduler where you add your sequences and set the days per week and hours to run

FPP also has schedules you can run. I have smart plugs (indoor and out) that turn on the controllers/power the lights and my sign 30 min before the show starts, the show runs, the controllers shut themselves down safely, and then my smart plugs turn off the power. This is not necessary but I don't like wasting electricity, and the tiny risk of fire if I have a bad strip or an animal chews through some wires.

How do you modify your power calculations. If I had 1000 standard bullets run at 30% I would just multiple . .06 x 1000 x .3 = 18 Amps. If these are constant current, what is the draw? I've seen both .05 and .08. Assuming .05 for 1000, I don't think you can just take 30% would you need .05*1000= 50 Amps?
@johnpappas9419
@johnpappas9419 4 месяца назад
No. EVOs run at 8 milliamps per pixel at 100%, so, if you run 1,000 at 100%, the draw would be 8 amps. Also, you don't want to run EVOs at 30%. I speaking with some folks at Mattos, you'll want to run them at 70-80%.On my mega tree, I run 300 pixels/port. At 70% brightness, the port is drawing 1.68A and 20.16 TOTAL!! As a comparison, my PPD Wreath is 600 bullet 12V pixels on 2 ports (300 per). Being an HD prop, I run it at 20% brightness and it draws 3A and 36W.

I’m curious how these will look in a show compared to “standard” 12mm bullet pixels. It looked like you are lighting up the Coro rather than the light shining out and around the pixel.

Mattos has some great videos showing how they compare visually straight-on and at an angle. Really shows how they spread light from the sides.

Can you do. Video explaining what you mean by these are native 12v vs the normal bullet pixels

There are no chips or components to convert the LED to 12v. The LEDs just support 12v out of the box.

Is there a track designed for them?

I saw these at one of the XMAS expos. I didn’t quite like the color output compared to the bullet. Also, they seems kind of flimsy and not as durable. I will probably pick up a set or two to try, but will not be my primary pixels for a number of year if at all.

Everyone can have an opinion :) It doesn't "project" as much light per say to the eye, but I like how it comes out the sides and fills the plastic "marshmellow"

Hi, I was hoping you could help me out a bit. I pre ordered some pixels because early in the year I want to mess with pixels, and just play around with it. The plan would be to add a few things that are pixels to my current lights. I looked into this last year but time has passed and I have lost most of my bookmarks :/ What exactly would I need to power up the pixels to play around with the entire process. Would appreciate any help. Thank you

How does it do for under gutters trimming? Could i use black hole strip like mega tree, or do I need fixed square tubing? I'm thinking of replacing Ice Sickles. I hear there are ice sickle props as well.

Look at products like Boscoyo's ChromaTrim that are designed for horizontal useage :)

Thank you for this! What about splicing out possible bad pixels, can ClickIts be used on these wires?
@UncleJedley
@UncleJedley 8 месяцев назад
I can answer my own question after doing a bit of research... no, the wires are thinner gauge with the EVOs and will not work with the ClickIts.
@LearnChristmasLighting
@LearnChristmasLighting 8 месяцев назад
It's true, the Clickit doesn't work, but the Mattos III lok gel filled connectors DO work (same concept, essentially a scotchlok for 3 wires)

@@LearnChristmasLighting David, Mattos has a warranty on the EVOs, so NO SPLICING!! I would buy a few extra strands and replace any bad strings with the spares. All you have to do is send the bad EVO strands back to Mattos and they will replace the defective strands.

I have LOR controllers. They say the limit is 170 pixels. Can I run 200 of these pixels on that LOR controller?
@LearnChristmasLighting
@LearnChristmasLighting 7 месяцев назад
That's a channel limit based on the pixel controller being DMX based, so unfortunately, no pixel will allow you to run more than that limit :)
