This video is all about being a PA and NP! I had the opportunity to interview and have a conversation with Mike Sharm PA. Mike has extensive experience in the military, and in emergency medicine, and wide range of specialities in between. Today, we're talking all about PA education, NP education, and the similarities and differences.
Here are links to Mike's social media. If you have questions for him, please contact him there!
I am also linking the 2view podcast here as well- STRONGLY recommend giving this a listen. Lot's of great pearls regarding APPs in emergency medicine.
I am ALSO linking the EM Bootcamp here as well. I have not taken the EM Bootcamp course, but I hear really good things about it!

David you should talk about your experience as an expert witness. And what to do to avoid litigation. That would be a good video !

Love this guy! Before starting in the ER I had an ER virtual “boot camp” and his classes were amazing!

Loved this interview. As a new NP I’m also not a fan of all the credentials some NP’s put after their names, I prefer just NP-C. Also, I cant say enough how much my previous nursing experience and schooling has been crucial to my knowledge as an NP, in fact I’ve probably learned as much useable knowledge in nursing school and at the bedside as I did in NP school, if not more. Like with any job though, as long as you obtained a good base of knowledge in school (which I feel especially in NP school that you get out of it the effort you put into it), you’ll still learn most of the pertinent knowledge and skills as you work. Also, I have so much respect for the PA’s I’ve worked with in the ER, I feel they don’t get as much credit as they deserve. Lastly, PA’s and NP’s are very open and approachable in my experience. Btw you’re my hero David, so much respect for you and your CRNA journey.

Great video! I recently graduated PA school and passed my boards on October 1st. I was an ER nurse for about 3 years before PA school. I will be starting a position in Emergency Medicine early next year.

Hey Kanyen, thanks for watching! Congrats on graduating and passing boards- that is awesome! I think a former nurse who went to PA school is quite possibly the best APP- you have all the bedside skills, plus the PA training. I think it's super helpful, especially in emergency medicine, to have those ER nursing skills. You can start lines quickly, mix drips, etc. Things a PA who may not be a nurse cannot do very well. Congrats again!

Thanks for the vid!! I just graduated nursing school and while I planned on becoming a nurse practitioner eventually, I'm keeping my options open and your vids are helpful and insightful!

Hey David! Do you recommend someone with a previous bachelor’s degree to go the ADN or Accelerated BSN route if their end goal is to eventually go to CRNA or NP school?

I would recommend the BSN route.
