Physically, single-pole and double-pole circuit breakers have obvious differences. Single-pole breakers are thinner and have a single switch for on/off positions. A double-pole breaker will have the appearance of double the width of the single-pole breaker, with the appearance of two switches, bridged to function as a single switch.

In the philippines. Single pole breakers are used for line to neutral connection line 1 is hot and one line for ungrounded wire And double pole breakers are used for line to line with neutral as the third line connection that is the line 1 is hot and the line 2 is hot thats why they need two pole breaker very simple explanation

Exactly 100%. Moreover, single pole has 1 live wire and the switch act as a cut/connect between the path and the application, ussually for low power-consume application. Double poles have two set of wires (live-neutral-antishocking) act as separate circuits to maintain high safety for high-consume apps

I m confused about Double Pole Circuit Breaker. I have seen a lot of pictures/videos which use one hot/live wire and one neutral wire as input and the corresponding output for each of them, whereas when I see the setup in the service panel box, it doesnt have the neutral input into the breaker itself, it takes two hot/live wires (from the service panel buses/two phases ) and two outputs accordingly. I am confused actually.

i have a circuit breaker labeled "oven" that has a lever handle that is two-wide instead of like the normal breakers that I can turn room lights and room outlets on / off. Would that double handle labeled "40" mean that it is 240V ? (I'm in USA) thanks in advance for any help with this

Yes but not the other way around. You shouldn’t use a double pole though unless you have a wire run that utilizes both connections....... aka; you can go overkill but don’t cut corners.

How about the fact that a single is for 120 and a double is for 240v but u are probably not in the. Us but still piss pore explanation of the difference

Firstly, if you dont know the difference between the 2 circuit breakers in this video,, should you really be changing them or playing around with your switchboard at all...? Secondly,The very little actual info in this video is mostly wrong or at best inaccurate. The use of double/single pole breakers has nothing to do with voltage or amperage. Double pole are used on mobile installations (caravans, boats), or when it is advantageous or preferable to be able to isolate both the neutral and active conductors. Most double pole "circuit breakers" are likely older type RCD's, not circuit breakers at all.

I'm guessing that because you're talking about caravans as apposed to campers and RCDs which the North American market doesn't use, you're either in Europe or in Aus/NZ. This video is information about breakers used in the North American market that the video author should've specified. In North America, double pole breakers ARE for 240 volt circuits. The US/Canada is 120VAC on single pole breakers and 240VAC on double pole breakers since our power grid is 240VAC split phase power.
