If we go by Kenny's qualification, then Dhruv Lakdwala is a definite Special Grade Sorcerer, no just a threat. Because it was stated that he conquered the entire Japan Archipelago. THAT is a Nation Conquering feat. You may argue, that Japan is not as big as USA or conquering ancient nation does not equal modern military. To that i say, that Kenny never specified how big nation should be or era he's talking about. Moreover, conquering a nation with potentially more people atuned to CE and more likely to know about sorcery to me sounds more inpressive than just taking out soldiers with rifles with no idea what they are up against. Mechamaru lowkey than has the potential to be SG sorcerer. If Mahito's IT did not strip him of his HR, and why would it, when it's probably something more like work around or circumvention, than he would be able to produce hundreds of robots and pilote them across the entire nation. And know, saying that he will run out of CE is the same for everyone except Sukuna or Gojo. If Yaga can be classified as SG just because he can make hubdreds of Pandas, then so can Mechamaru. In fact, i'm pretty sure Yaga was never said to have massive amounts of CE, while Mechamaru can store that bad boy for his robots. Tldr; Mechamaru and Dhruv qualify as SG sorcerers.

I've been trying to make this distinction for awhile now with people and I agree. Just because you can combat special grade opponents doesn't automatically qualify you for one. Characters like Yuji, Maki, and Hakari are all easily special grade tier combatants their individual showings more than prove that. But they don't have the kit necessary to overthrow a nation. For example the disaster curses are all special grade curses but the three I listed above would run through them easily. It's really more about your kit than your stats when it comes down to it.

Although I disagree with some of the scaling, i absolutely agree with your assessment of what makes a character special grade and special grade threats.

The criteria is so mismatched, it really comes down to your tool kit. It's just weird that a person who can solo a nation can be defeated by someone who can't, aka Yuji vs Geto. Yuta was special grade because of Rikka immediately, even before Yuta had a ounce of training so in some cases your individual power is irrelevant.

I was thinking if yuji learns dismantle and uses the friction that dismantle will cause because sukuna body should be a hard surface he should leave flames fueled by the soul on sukuna body on areas he hits with a dismantle. Using the opponent soul and passion for battle as a propane tank and the flames won’t leave until the soul which is the propane tank is empty of dead in this case.

Ijichi didnt say "beating special grade makes you a special grade" People keep forgetting that grade 1 means youre supposed to be able to beat grade 1s reliably, not "you havee beaten a grade 1 curse before." It means youre no diffing grade 1 curses as a grade 1 sorcerer. If you infer off of that, a special grade sorcerer should then be low diffing special grade curses. Which given how Gojo did against the special grade curses this seems consistent. Kenny was collecting special grade curses PLURAL and confident he at the idea of beating jogo and mahito. Yuki one shotted a special grade in her entrance. Yuta beat every curse Kenny had in stock OFF SCREEN including his special grades after he died. So if youre asking is Yuji special grade: just ask if he was in the same position as Gojo, Yuki, Kenny, and Yuta in those same situations would he have been able to do the same

There really should be a ranking for these kind of characters that can box evenly with Special Grade Sorcerers but can’t solo a nation, as I can’t for the life of me say these characters are just Grade 1 with their showings. Hell they even talk about Kusakabe as being the Strongest Grade 1 and Yuji, Maki, Hakari, Kashimo, Uro, arguably Todo, all clear him with ease.

I've never really viewed Special Grade as a tier of power, or even as a rigid thing to be defined. Like you mentioned, I've always just seen Special Grade as a categorization for dangerous and strange anomalies (key word strange). Gojo manipulates space-time, Geto uses curses like pokemon, Yuki manipulates mass, and Yuta sometimes feels like he's from an entirely different series with a different power system. I think Special Grade is a lot more interesting of a category that way. Like if I were to make my own list of Special Grades, I'd put Sukuna on there not because he's the strongest in history, but because he has 4 arms, 4 eyes, and 2 mouths. That also would excuse the unusual amount of Special Grade cursed spirits, cursed spirits are kind of bizarre and unconventional by nature.

Yuta as a snot nosed freshly baked jujutsu sorcerer was Special Grade because he was haunted by the strongest ghost on the planet who could protect him from every being on the planet except maybe Gojo. Before training he was incompetent af BUT still Special Grade. Current Yuji would fold JJK0 Yuta WITHOUT Rika. Special Grade Curses are MUCH weaker than Special Grade Sorcerors which IS weird because Yuji AND Nobara can Black Flash special grades into oblivion. But Yuta can NO-DIFF special grade curses with a light peck on the cheek. Clearly, there are levels to this. I think the proper ladder of separation is that Special Grade SORCERORS can solo an entire nation's army. Geto could, Yuki could, Gojo could, Yuta could, MECHAMARU COULD, PRINCIPAL YAGA COULD, Uruame could, Sukuna could, Kashimo could, Hakari could, and hot take but Megumi COULD TOO......because of Mahoraga he's just untamed. I WANT Yuji to be Special Grade but.......he's an anti-material rifle victim. Yuji lacks DEFENSE stats imo. Great mink mink, great healing, great battle IQ, he could probably punch a tank away but even with Cleave and Dismantle idk how he's surviving a hail of gunfire or god forbid a railgun.

I can debate and give you scientific proof that none of Special grade sorcerers can solo a country(with Nukes) Yes Nuke can kill Gojo, Gojo's Limitless only blocks attack on atomic level and Nuke radiation is subatomic, Gojo will die from radiation poisoning (a very horrible death)

Also a special garde curse aint the same as special grade sorcers completely different ball game

Pencil man, im not sure if you fully understand the argument of the grade ranking system but here goes. Beating special grade curses does NOT make you special grade. The ranking system is built in such a way that grade 1 sorcerers can comfortably beat any grade 1 curse, and can therefore fight evenly with an average special grade or defeat a weak special grade. Carrying this ranking upward, a special grade sorcerer should be able to comfortably defeat any special grade cursed spirit. Now think of the more powerful grade 1s we know. nanami, mei mei, naobito etc. can they defeat the disaster curses? Absolutely not. Now think of the special grades we know. Gojo, yuki, yuta. Can they defeat the special grades? Easily. This perfectly fits the description given to us about the ranking system.
