Let's assume that "even slices" means that all slices have equal area. As an aside... It IS possible to cut pizza in such a way that each of the eight slices will have an area of 39.27 sqin but the pizza is not cut radially. I didn't "do the math," but I suspect that the circumferences of these slices are not all equal. For example, if a point on the edge of the pizza is where all slices converge, one side of both the "middle" two slices will be 20, the other edge will be close to 20, and the opposite "crustal" edge will be at its minimum. Two slices will each have only one straight side, the remainder of the circumference being crust.

I used to have to spray chemicals so I had to calculate how many Sqr mtrs of a particular piece of ground so I knew how much chemical to mix with water. The triangle piece of ground was always used in the final test A=bxh÷2. But a pizza slice was way harder 🍕😂 I guess I would have just called it a triangle and sprayed accordingly 🤣
@iane1335
@iane1335 Год назад
This is part of why math is so confusing to most. Each slice has 2 radius lines (10" each, for 20" total, plus the dividend of 1/8th of the circumference. The only real math then that is required is C=(2piR^2)/8. The majority of the answer is given to you already, it is made harder by how it is presented. C=(2piR^2)/8 =(2×3.14×10^2)/8 =(2×3.14×100)/8 C=(2×314)/8 A=628/8 =78.5 Unsure exactly how/why my answer is 10x too high, but there is my thought process. *** I found my mistake. I combined the formula for D with the formula for C, which threw my calculations off by a factor of 10.*** PSA - Coffee up BEFORE you tackle math, kids!!

Pi is irrational, therefore ... of infinite length. However, the slice IS finite. How come Pi keeps growing, but the slice - who's arc is determined by Pi - doesn't (keep growing)?

This is math.....you can't make the assumption that the pizza is round from the given information. You have to declare that in the problem. What if it's a square pizza? 20" wide only gives you a single dimension. What if it was a 20 x 20 pizza? 8 even slices of that is not the same distance around as that of a 20" dia. pizza slice in eighths......unfair! Of course, you really need to declare the second dimension of the pizza for a rectangular or square or declare it's a round pizza up front.

I used mental math on this one because 10 is an easy radius to multiply by 2(pi). I almost messed up and used pi(r^2), but quickly realized that there is no way a 20" circle would have a circumference of 314" 😁 But I remembered the correct formula and ended up with 62.8/8 +10+10 and got 27.85.

Some folks like to find the numeric values for each fragment of the solution, then add them all together. Nothing wrong with that. My mind tends to do better when I keep everything in variables until the end. Overview We need to find the length of the two sides and the length of the arc and add them together. diameter = 20 inches side = radius arc = circumference/8 Perimeter = r + r + c/8 (c = 2πr from formula) (substitute for c) Perimeter = r + r + (2πr)/8 (combine terms) Perimeter = 2r + (2πr)/8 (at this point, I'd probably just substitute d for 2r) Perimeter = d + (πd)/8 (substitute the numeric value for pi and d and ignore the units and insert that later) Perimeter = 20 + (3.14 × 20)/8 Perimeter = 20 + (62.8)/8 Perimeter = 20 + 7.85 Perimeter = 27.85
