Personally, I do not think that they should be teaching how to write Informal Letters in schools, anymore. The should delve deeper into the subject of Formal Letter Writing to include writing "Cover Letters/Motivation Letters" for employment purposes. That's the skill you are going to need, much more than being able to correctly joke about with your friends!

Just think about the consequences for writing the line "your mother writes to me, you don't need to know why" in your exam :_)
