Germany has drawn a lot of international attention for its aim to switch to a renewable energy economy and leave nuclear and fossil energy behind. A lot of the international reporting about the German Energy Transition, or Energiewende, has, however, been misleading -- for instance, when it comes to the role of coal power, energy price trends, and carbon emissions.
The website www.energytransition.de aims to explain what the German Energy Transition is, how it works, and what challenges lay ahead. It is intended to provide facts and explain the politics and policies to an international audience. The website highlights the effects of the Energiewende on the German economy, environment and society and addresses the most important questions.

One of the highest electric prices in europe... like 33 cents per kwh

That does not mean that the current feed-in tariff system is perfect though. The are definitely some wrong aspects in it. For example: there is so much green electricity in the grid that prices are actaully driven DOWN! Yet, paradoxically, this causes renewables to get more expensive because of the way the pricing system works. This is one of the major muck ups...it's a flaw that needs to be fixes. Yet, for the Energiewende as a whole there are dozens of reasons why it's the way to go!!!

Investing in renewables is pretty much the smartest thing you can do...you do not only protect the environment: you create jobs, economic grwoth and support local energy production and businesses, it makes the country independent (especially when cars, trains and trucks are electric too) and in the mid-term you will have very stable energy prices. It also democratizes the energy market - people and companies are no longer exposed to monopolies. Many competitive advantages for the future

Yeah geothermal is great. But with waterpower one of the most "dangerous" renewable energies. If you drill at the wrong spot you can hit hard your village. Drill at the wrong spot and water will come in contact with gypsum. Your whole village will be on the rise. We had this misfortune in Germany at some places. So always check your underground ;)

scheinbar hat die Bundesregierung die vielen Vorteile der Energiewende aber nicht begriffen - oder sie will nicht begreifen. Wer hätte gedacht dass es ohne FDP noch schlimmer wird...

It's aweseome my brother uses wood pellet heating and solar panels .. he's saves money and does not depend on fossil energy sources. My second brother uses geothermal heating ... great thing. Well for a single-family house it works .. but what about big apartment buildings?

yep, once installed, renewable energy production does not consume any resources (except for biogas plants), but you have to pay for the actual wind turbine/pv system etc. once, of course. The reason why coal and nuclear are cheaper is that they don't actually include all costs (environmental damage) while renewables do. In addition REs are still a relatively new technology and as always prices only come down through mass production - which is happening - no need to sabotage this process.

What's happening is this: 1) fossil fuel prices have doubled over the last years. 2) Utility companies are corporations, so they aim for min. 20% profit and they are making billions of profit every year. Those profits have actually multiplied over the years. 3) On top, the state taxes electricity heavily. So, renewables are not really the problem! In fact, they make up only a fraction of the electricity price!!

energiewende ist planwirtschaft und die grösste umverteilung von unten nach oben seit 1945.
