a young mage who was just sitting under a tree, deciding what tradition to pick, when an apple fell on his head and he decided "never again". terrified of an object falling on his head he seeks to master gravity.

Grinkleknack is kobold who envies the fact that they cannot fly like a true dragon, becoming spiteful of the Adult Red that rules of their home. One day, while sneaking out of a cave to test out poorly constructed wings, they are saved by a passing wizard with a fly spell who is amused enough by Grinkleknack's antics to agree to take them on as an apprentice. Very few wizards at the orbiting tower were as kind to a common kobold peeking through all their books, and the scorned adult Dragon even less so. If Grinklenack truly wishes to fly, they must first learn to flee.

Thrylborn is a young half elf who as a kid. Always felt like he could fly in his dreams, in his imagination. So focused on this fantasy he lost his connection with the people around him.. The 'real' world and slowly letting this fantasy shape his whole existence. Where his elders never expected him to literally master gravity and fly away someday.. He now lives above the clouds, with machinery that follow the tides of the wind powered by altered forms of gravity & sunlight.. A loneliness swallowed him and he now descends back to the earth more frequently to experience connection, form bonds, create true companionship and maybe even love. Though he is still a dreamer he is often urged to retreat back to his sky home. He has to continuously remind himself why he's here.

I mean... I'm assuming alot of gravity spells might be evocation, and if it's for a wizard subclass, than the Eldritch knight could totally take gravity spells. So.... Hell yes?

@@duke1252 even then... You get like, what... One spell that isn't evocation??? I'm assuming gravity spells are either evocation or conjuration. Meaning you can get at least one gravity spell. As you level you can get maybe one or two more, but this can be bypassed by taking a few wizard levels... If they are evocation, perfect. You get as many gravity spells as you want. That would make for one HELL of a character lol. Although, Echo Knight also sounds awesome! I guess we shall see if it is another caster/int based fighter or not

this would be something I would really enjoy. I see this as a true battlefield controller moving folks around the map like chess pieces. My best friend would be a druid with spikes of course :)

PJ VC depends on the wording. If the spell (be it hazardous terrain or an areas of damaging energy) deals damage when the creature “starts its turn there or enters it for the first time on a turn” then pushing them in by any means would deal damage. Other verbiage (such as “ends turn there”) would not!

This, along with the dunamancy spells, might very well have been the wizard archetype I've been looking for if I can't have my lore master. Controlling the battlefield in this way is not something I feel the other traditions apart from maybe the illusionist lend themselves to. I'm getting some ideas for a Sigma type character. I normally play a very tactical character, like the Battlemaster or a Cleric... I haven't ever tried playing a Wizard, but this might be the sort of thing I'm into...

This would be dope to create a class with the concept of digesting different kinds of metal to gain different powers. Graviturgist is quite different to be honest, even when there are slight similarities. But gaining bonuses to strength, charisma, reflexes etc. With Enhance ability we got a spell that gains similar things but conceptionally a completely different thing. Maybe I will think of something. If I remember correctly there does exist a Mistborn Tabletop or Pen&Paper.

I’m sure Matthew Mercer has played a character in voice acting who has had run-ins with gravity and two graviturgists. Luckily one was a reliable guy as an ally, unluckily the other very much was not.

Probably with how in this world Dunamacy works, the Kyrn studied how to use it. No one was born into it, nor is the Luxon alive enough to really give it to clerics. Just probably how he saw it in his head. :/

My only question is this, why are 2 of the 3 new subclasses for wizard??? One of these 2 could've easily been placed under another arcane caster to spread the love a bit

Because of the lore of dunamancy. There aren't dunamancy sorcerers. It's literally studied in Kryn schools and taught as a form of magical science. All three subclasses are Kryn based since they're by far the most unique part of the setting and their study of dunamancy is a big part of that.

A *lot* of attention to the wizard here. I was half expecting a cleric subclass, what with the religious aspect of their culture with the Luxon, but I suppose that would likely be more of a fateweaver.

Well the problem with that is, the luxon is kind of dead. lol But you could spin a cleric sublass with these archetypes and just allow a cleric to gain dunamancy spells through faith or quest for the "luxon"

I'm glad this is happening, as I think it's good for everyone involved, but I hope that WotC took a good pass through these mechanics. I love Matt's mind and imagination, but with some of his other stuff, particularly character options, I've felt like it's really lacking polish. I don't blame him; TTRPG designer isn't in his title, but still. Just my view. Still think it will be a great book. "Come on give us your unpopular opinion, something up till now that you've been scared to say."
