I take his opinion more seriously than almost any other gear reviewer. It's like listening to a NASCAR mechanic talking about cars, the dude knows his sh--
JHS videos keep getting better and better. History, smattering of self-deprecating humor, great display of pedals, and killer jams. No one else has this format.
Andertons to an extent, their jams can be really good, but no full band. They also don’t get their history completely accurate as JHS either. I like both channels!
I don't know about you, but I have to say it here: Josh realy is a great guitar player. The stuff he plays in the jams is almost always stuff you'd like to hear on a proper song or album. Great stuff. Keep it up Josh! You're the man!
Yes. Been thinking this a long time. He may not be flashy, but everything he plays is tasty af. I don't feel this way about any other pedal maker or RU-vidr. Josh rules.
Totally agree! Content is always great and all the boys jams are epic!! Love his Bilt guitar too and I’ve yet to bond with a offset! Traded up and enjoying Bonzai and Pollinator Vs2 on new pedalboard build! ✌️❤️
Even forgetting the rare pedals from the early 80’s, there’s ~$10,000 worth of Tubescreamer on that table. I’m watching with my heart racing that the table will collapse or that Josh will throw an errant elbow.
Buy that Joyo. I tried a lot of budget pedals in vastly different categories. Some are great, some stink, some are just pretty good. The Joyo Vintage Overdrive is the only one I can't hear any difference whatsoever compared to the original Ibanez.
I’ve never been much of a “pedal” guy. I own a few but I tend to lean more tends modeling units. That said, Josh is amazing. I love his channel, his sense of humor, and his demeanor. I want to buy a JHS pedal just to support him and this might be the one
You can always run a pedal into an amp sim ;) I do it nearly every day producing. There’s certain effects I just can’t get feeling right in the box. Something like a Fuzz Factory is a prime example. Hit a clean sim with it, twist knobs, best of both worlds
Addison , you’re killing it on bass in these jams. Everyone is but I wanted to give you a shout out as the bass player often gets overlooked (sometimes for good reason). But your lines really hold down the melody and add interesting fills. Great tunes as always.
Can we get a “4 series” where you make dual function pedals with a similar concept to the 3 series (ie - a fuzz face into a tube screamer, delay and reverb, etc)?
2-sound pedals. MIDI functionality. I would buy them on the spot. Instead right now I have monstrosities like a Ventris when I really only need 2-4 good reverb sounds. Like the WA slotva has presets but no MIDI. What's with that? (I'm going to keep raging on this topic until someone hears my cries 😩😭)
Was given the Screamer as a Christmas gift and just yesterday I finally had a chance to play around with it a bit. I put it on my board in series with my OCD, Timmy, Nobels ODR Mini and a Klon clone and have some fun stacking. Man, this pedal stands out in so many good ways. It stacked beautifully with each pedal and has a TON of punch. Thank you thank you thank you. For a busy dad of 5/small business owner that doesn’t have much spare money or time, I am very grateful to finally own something JHS makes. Thank you for making this line SO affordable. I appreciate how you all throw your life into making quality art for many to enjoy. 19:29
The slide tone and playing were awesome. I love a lot of SRV, but Tin Pan Alley is one of my favorites of his, as is Texas Flood, Couldn't Stand the Weather, Cold Shot, and Riviera Paradise
My beautiful JHS 3 Series Screamer arrived today!!! I absolutely love it. Very happy indeed. Well done Josh and the crew. Although I've got 24 pedals now, this is my first JHS. I've never picked up a tube screamer as I was always sceptical. For those out there who don't have a TS808 this is a no regrets purchase.
The JHS mode is the exact reason I bought the Bonsai immediately when trying out some other gear at Sam Ash. If you don’t own a Bonsai, you should buy this pedal! Especially if your a metal guitarist! However, the Bonsai is the best because the other modes too and love a 808 as well for bluesier stuff🤘
So I comment a lot about Nick’s great drum sounds. I am building a new studio and I am trying to tweak it for the best drum sound possible. Now, how many pedal shelves would you say are the minimum I would need to get that sound? Is it important what pedals are on the shelves? Is a mixture of different brands important for breaking up the standing waves or would it be okay if I use all Boss pedals?
I put some bookshelves with wheels in my studio. I put books of all shapes and sizes, then staggered the bindings unevenly- one of the best mobile sound diffusers I have ever used. And it was free because I’m a book worm.
I bought the JHS Bonsai. ONE and DONE! Love it! I also have the Moonshine and the Kilt v2,…and the Super Bolt…and the Angry Driver,…and the Charlie Brown,…and the Morning Glory!!! 🤣🤗🔥
That's cool! I used to have a Bonsai, but traded it. And frankly, the only setting I really enjoyed was the "JHS" mode on the Bonsai. I am a Les Paul guy, not a single coil player. I have more than a dozen, close to 20, JHS pedals, but no Series 3. This could be a first.
Thats kinda what im going through with my Muffuletta. Only use one setting on it. I use the cheeseball for the glitchy shit, and recently splurged on the Hoof Reaper to finally end my search for fuzzes
Thank you so much for doing the short jam with bass I've been looking for a screamer and that sealed the deal for me. Also Addison I love your bass playing you are doing great and I love that you play a Nash bass I don't see those often. Bass players!
I honestly never liked Screamer pedals, but this might change my mind, especially since it doesnt muddy up like other Screamers. I always enjoy hearing Addison and Nick play but I would love to see an episode where you bring in other employees that play instruments to jam. If I was on the shop floor, Id love to jam with you. Maybe we could see a (or a new one if its done before) a multi-employee collab song 🤔
@@GhostMlone he’s lying. Remember how Josh said, “everyone claims to hate McDonald’s but everyone eats there anyway” That’s what is it with Rhett. He claim to hate screamers but deep down, he likes them. In fact, he LOVES them
That Mayer jam was killer. Neck tones like that are a big part of what inspired me to pick up an electric. Side note: I got a plain latte at Starbucks not that long ago and had to check the price - I’ve always been with you on how expensive they are but because of that perception I was pleasantly surprised - it was 5 bucks!! So thanks for making me feel better that day!
TS + strat/tele/jaguar = where have you been all my life?! TS + Rat = bliss. I love driving other pedals with it - whether for power or just to shape the EQ. I use a cheap chinese tube screamer clone on each of two pedalboards - it's the only pedal I have more than one of. I love my JHS S3 Reverb and would buy more JHS pedals, but I am a cheap bastard.
Just wanted to thank you for making great pedals at affordable prices. I just discovered JHS a few months ago and I’m quite impressed so far. I just purchased and received the JHS little black buffer and it is just what I needed. It gave me back what my other pedals had taken away. I even love the bright yellow LED, such a cool little pedal. I’m currently looking into the Bonsai and the Emperor v2 and they will most likely be in my possession very soon. I’m learning so much from watching your videos here on RU-vid and I can’t thank you enough for being so gracious. We need more people like you in this world. You’ve earned a new faithful follower and supporter. Take care Cheers
I'm very happy with my 2020 SD1 and hopefully my soon to arrive NUX horseman klon clone. Very much interested in owning at least one of your pedals for the years of selfless promotion of other companies. You're the man Josh. I'm using a Chinese compressor I think my next upgrade will be a JHS series 3 compressor =)
Been playing electric since 1984 and I’ve never tried a Screamer. At this point I kinda want to go to my grave with that record intact, just out of sheer perversity. 😀
@@krokovay.marcell yeah I apologise, after watching the last video on your channel I realise now that everything you post on youtube is a joke. My mistake 😂
Josh, this is cool, but I’m still voting that you make a pedal that has the overdriven, swirly, phasy sound of the guitar/organ in the son “No Matter What” by Badfinger, and you should make it a mini pedal and call it the “Dirty Digit”. Thanks for making this, though.
Mini pedals drive me nuts. I have one my my pedal board (TC PolyTune) and it rocks and moves and drives me insane. I've gone 100% to full-size pedals because they stay in place during live performances. That said, if you can manage them and have the right pedal board, more power to you. I have a hard time standing on one foot in any case, let alone trying to hit a mini-pedal in a forest of full-sized pedals.
Wouldn't be surprised if Joey Molland is going through a rotating speaker on that, the type used for Hammond organ. That's why it sounds like a keyboard.
Josh uses a Kemper for recording Jams, so that the drum mics aren't being affected by room bleed from loud amps. Bass is being recorded direct as well.
Yeah, I want to know what that is too. I've never seen a tubescreamer in a Boss enclosure before. I can't imagine it being an authentic Boss pedal though, most likely, just a clone tubescreamer circuit in a Boss enclosure, rather than a Boss' version of the tubescreamer. I am curious to know the story behind that pedal though.
Ha! I know that pedal. That's a pedal from a russian company that was called Гамма (Gamma), which to my knowledge comes from a company called Yerasov. Yerasov is the last name of their founder Alexander, who basically is treated as a 'russian Marshall', the guy was the first one to ever produce quality local made tube amps that were not expensive, like the Gavrosh series. These amps are pretty popular out here, my band even used one of those in the studio. Unfortunately the man passed away a year ago, but still lives in all that gear that he has created. Those Gamma pedals used Boss-like enclosures, so that's a Gamma Tube Screamer in that casing. They ain't bad. New Yerasov SCS pedals are great for their price as well. Never thought I would be telling russian guitar stories here.
i don't need another tube screamer, i just bought one. what I need is to see Josh, to listen to him. this never fails to make my day just a little bit better. thank you Josh, you keep on tightening that low end.
A few years back, Josh taught a class at Sweetwater where students (myself among them) modded a Tube Screamer and built a boost. If I recall correctly, the mod we did in that class sounds similar to this 3 series tube screamer. Is it close?
I still can see where I was in my mind's eye when I heard on the radio in the family car, my mom driving, that SRV was dead. I was 16 and had only recently discovered his music. Crossfire still slays me with those stinging response guitar lines to his verse lyric call. That whole In Step album is just huge for me, with massive guitar tones and on fire playing. It's like he had to prove to himself he could play better now sober than his previous albums. And boy could he!
Your ability to teach about pedals, demo them, and entertain pales in comparison to your setting up the jam with a well-thought through story that hits so deeply. That was very Trader Joes and it was felt deeply.
My JHS screamer came in yesterday, my first JHS. So far i love the crunchy clean sound and yes it does stack well with my other (BOSS) pedals. I found a good mate for my MT-2 Metal Z. together even better.
JHS Channel makes me smile more than any other guitar channel. Thanks! Favorite SRV song is his cover of Voodoo Child Slight Return. Any time you can actually improve on a Hendrix tune is beyond amazing.
