To show the scope of just how big 310 decibels is: It’s 10^16 times louder than the passenger plane taking off next to your ear, which is enough to rupture your eardrums. That is the loudest sound measured, but there were probably louder ones in ancient times. It may be possible that the eruption that wiped out the Minoans back in 1100 B.C. could have been louder. Of course deafness was not an issue, because anybody in the area would have been killed by the shock waves. There is a very important point made in the video; once a sound exceeds 180 db, it is no longer a sound, but an atmospheric shock wave. The dinosaurs in North America probably did not hear the blast that killed them; there would have been a flash, followed a blast of shock, killing them instantly. The poor dinosaurs elsewhere would have died when the ejected particles in the upper atmosphere fell to earth, causing enormous heat, which would have roasted them in minutes. When the Super volcano in Yellowstone blows, half of America will not have to worry about falling ash, the shock will probably kill them before that. According to geologists, nobody has ever heard a blast of that kind in over half a million years.

have you herd barometer? here some words that I get in online article "A barometer at the Batavia gasworks (100 miles away from Krakatoa) registered the ensuing spike in pressure at over 2.5 inches of mercury. That converts to over 172 decibels of sound pressure, an unimaginably loud noise." 100 miles from blast and registered as 172 db. that insane!!
