On Feb. 10, Asian American communities around the U.S. will ring in the Year of the Dragon with community carnivals, family gatherings, parades, traditional food, fireworks and other festivities. In many Asian countries, it is a festival that is celebrated for several days. In diaspora communities, particularly in cultural enclaves, Lunar New Year is visibly and joyfully celebrated.
In the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. Different countries across Asia celebrate the new year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac.
What is the Lunar New Year?
The Lunar New Year - known as the Spring Festival in China, Tet in Vietnam and Seollal in Korea - is a major festival celebrated in several Asian countries. It is also widely celebrated by diaspora communities around the world.
It begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends 15 days later on the first full moon. Because the lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, the dates of the holiday vary slightly each year, falling between late January and mid-February. #LunarNewyear #Zodiac

Without the Zijinshan Observatory in Nanjing, China, which measures time according to the Chinese calendar and the phases of the moon in central China, you wouldn't even know what day the Chinese New Year falls on.

Chinese people have been celebrating the Spring Festival for more than 4,000 years. The time of the Spring Festival is calculated by the Nanjing Zijin Observatory according to the Chinese calendar and the phases of the moon in central China, and is called Chinese New Year. If the Chinese New Year is celebrated in other countries on the same day as the Chinese New Year, then it is rightly called Chinese New Year, but if it is not celebrated on the same day as the Chinese New Year, then please follow your own calendar to calculate the time of the New Year ‘s time in your own country. All in all, please respect traditional Chinese culture, it's not as simple as changing the name of a holiday.

Chinese New Year usually falls on the same day each year. However, when Koreans celebrate Lunar New Year these days, they're not thinking about China. The holiday has been so deeply intertwined with Korean culture and history that it doesn't even resemble the celebrations of ancient China, much less the modern ones in the PRC. It's similar to how celebrating Christmas isn't about remembering the Roman Empire. When referring to it in an international context, 'Lunar New Year' is the more appropriate terminology.

Well, I dont care about your gregorian new year or chinese lunar new year. I care about the Biblical new year. The first Hebrew month is march/april. That is Gods ordained time.

We Americans who are Christians and Bible believers could care less about the Ametican zodiak...so could really care less about Chinese zodiak. What nonsense. God created and His way is the only way.
