Heard a comment from the audience that didn't really get a good answer. The 4-Play does work well with the fast polling, if left at the normal poll rate you may or may not feel the lag, some of us do. Just turn on the fast polling and it works fine. It also supports the LLAPI if you plug it in to the user port with the LEVEL-Shifter you can get from BlissBox's site but you need those cores. There is also an Add-On board called the BlisSTer you can use that is essentially a 2 player version of the 4-Play. It will work in USB or LLAPI mode via a software change from the LLAPI cores. It uses the already available cables form the 4-Play (same cables used for SNAC). The BlisSTer also works with the zapper comparably to SNAC. The advantage is that you can have two players on a core with the BlisSTer with or without LLAPI.

Having been a BlisSTer user since it first released, I have to comment here that I feel it needlessly over-complicates a MiSTer setup, not only because of the requirement for special cores to use its core functionality, but also the number of small issues that regularly crop up when changes happen to MiSTer itself. I don't feel that the creator of the board is well connected with the community he is marketing this to, and as a result is never aware of issues when updates to MiSTer occur because he is not using the product or having anyone verify its performance when major updates occur, so it is completely a reactionary process. You will also not have the latest fixes to cores if you use the special ones because of how long it takes for them to get updated. It is an inferior option compared to fast polling USB along with a good-performing controller adapter like the daemonbite boards or similar converters.

Great talk! Any newcomer interested in MiSTer should check it out. Thanks Lon and Bob.

I loved the BBS talk. I ran a small BBS in 508 back in the early to mid 90s using Renegade. I remember waking up to the sound of my QIC-80 tape drive whirling because someone requested some software I kept offline. My hard drive was only 170 mb.

That's awesome - I never knew you could use backup tapes like that in an automated fashion for a BBS. I had only a 130 hard drive on mine which was shared with my games, windows, etc., so my files section was always minimal. Did it pull the file from tape and then start the download?

I’ve been contemplating between a mister, and just a 6th gen i7 with 32gb of ram, running on an m.2 with vga output. Both cost about the same, just wondering the differences!

My Mister has an HDMI port already on the HUB hub ( I think its a BlisSter broad?). It works great with the zapper on a CRT. So not sure SNAC is the only option there.... I got my setup form Ricardo.

SNAC is a much better option for light guns because it will support all of them instead of just the zapper. This is crucial with systems like PS1 and Saturn on the way. It's cool that BlisSTer even was able to add that support, but having been a BlisSTer user since it first released I have to say that it needlessly over-complicates a MiSTer setup, not only because of the requirement for special cores to use its core functionality, but also the number of small issues that regularly crop up when changes happen to MiSTer itself. I don't feel that the creator of the board is well connected with the community he is marketing this to, and as a result is never aware of issues when updates to MiSTer occur because he is not using the product or having anyone verify its performance when major updates occur, so it is completely a reactionary process. Thanks for making this video. I always wondered about this board, and if it was worth it. It's VERY technical, with TONS of options, apparently. I ran a BBS for years on my Atari ST. It was fun and helped me make friends when I moved to a new city. Sadly, a lightning strike killed off my PC & took the BBS down while the insurance fixed the house, and they did pay for new modems (fried from the lightning). I had powered off and unplugged the computers, but forgot the modems were connected to the phone lines. My dad had just spend a ton of money remodeling the house, and most of that had to be re-done too. VT-52 on 2400 baud was a fun time. ANSI graphics for the win!!

It used to be cheat at $130-$140 usd when it first launched, but now the DE Nano board "alone" starts at $180+ so it's starting to become a $200 starting point with shipping and all the way up to $500 for a complete unit. Definite still a great device but not by any means cheap. The Raspberry Pi is still the best value for emulating retro consoles and computers! This is fact not opinion.

I am surprised they did it. Just like this thing. It has a bunch of cores. It allows me to play stuff i had or other people i knew as a kid. Plus extra's I like the arcade cores. Me living in a small room i can enjoy then on the LCD screen. Hooking it up to a CRT, PVM is a option. It's one thing, i can move it around different place. Has a bunch of storage for a bunch of games And it being the representation of the board makes it that much accurate. Hope next project is more powerful and come out with lots of attachments. For better cores. A bit more sturdy. Maybe NVMe capability. Hope for updates. more cores. Work out any bugs. It's really shaping up. Glad cps arcades are in there and neogeo. My favs for arcade. Hope to see some more board cores. Looking forward with Saturn and PSX. It's a surprise to me. Will look forward in future goodies.
