That was fun! I like this new segment you are doing! Feels like a big hang out, natural, relaxed, chill session, talking about comics! What isn't there to like!! I see big things for content like this for you!! 🔥🔥
I love the uncanny X-force omni but I understand why some people might not care for it as much. Sidenote: Marvel needs to release an omni of the Messiah era X-force stories. By Yost and Kyle. I think that was probably my favorite post Messiah Complex-pre Second coming X-book. I would put the whole Necrosha and messiah war stories in to beef it up as well as the Sex and violence side-story
The messiah saga is so complex that I ve read stuff out of order. I don t know where it begins ( after "M") so I ve got stuff including cable and hope.i have no idea of the reading order so I would love an omni
thankful im the type to trust the process while reading omnis, even those whose genres i dont really read, cuz its nice to try to figure out what the author's going for. That said, the comics i tend to avoid are media tie ins since they weren't designed to tell a comic story first
Easily the best take on Deadpool. Wild people dislike it. Worst criticism I could throw at it is the revolving artists can be a little jarring, but I wouldn’t say any of its bad.
Always an issue with Omni's are the reading straight through of the content. I no longer do that, I typically now have 3 or 4 different Omni reads at once and only do 2 issues per book at a time. Johns Aquaman and Brubaker Cpt America 5 book omnis are a few I can get through. While not hyped I did not dig the HArley Quin Omni's by Palm & Con...Also The Boys was a bit overrated to me...I lived most of my life with perverted humor so it wasnt much of a shock,..LOL
FF by Waid and Wieringo for me man. So hard to get thru it. Enjoyed the Kirby cameo, but the rest of the book was too patchy for me. I know Omar at NMC LOVES this one xD hardest Omni I ever completed
I dont if this was hyped by other people, but I certainly hyped it up to myself. Cosmic Ghost Rider by Donny Cates. I thought I'd love it so much. But I havent even been able to finish it.
I thought it was meh. As much as i hear people always hyping donny cates i find his stuff just average. Havent read his thor yet, dont care about solo venom so ill skip that series.
I think people that don't like Ennis don't get Ennis. Understandably he isn't for everyone especially the easily offended. And a lot of people don't get the context of the time that stuff came out in. I've read everything by Ennis and he definitely has way more good books than bad. There's only two or three books by him I didn't enjoy and it's some of his more obscure stuff. He is the Tarantino of comics and like Tarantino fulms, it's not for everyone. Preacher is an outstanding book. It helped pave the way for a lot of books we have today.
I can’t really say that any omnibus I have read was overrated. But I have read runs of books that are now in omnis. I would say spectacular Spider-Man omnibus vol 1. I can see a volume 3 shining once we get to the black ar relationship.
I remember reading the tom king run of batman for the first time and thought it was great. But, comparing it to other stories, it changes Batman into a domesticated shadow of what he once was even though it starts strong with the I AM story arcs. And I came to that conclusion after a second read-through.
hey if you do another of these videos, can you just leave the split screen with comments up permanently? It's so difficult to see exactly what you're responding to when you're constantly switching from split screen to full screen of you, and not giving enough time to read the entire comment.
I like much of Hickman's stuff, but he often tries to much and doesn't have it planned out. His Avengers run is so typical, the stuff on Incursions where good but so much around it was bad, or dead-ends or pointless.
My biggest let down was Teen Titans by Geoff Johns. I heard so many good things about it. When I finished the giant thing I wasn't satisfied. It was just meh for me. Definitley the worst of his omnis imo :/
I've skipped over a lot of highly-recommended books because I know they are not for me. (I.E., anything by Grant Morrison.) As for as books I did buy that weren't worth the hype: Fantastic Four by Waid and Wieringo did nothing for me. The writing during most of the run was just too bland. The first Batman/Superman omnibus was also pretty bad. Sure, the first two story-arcs were really cool. But after that, the stories were generally dumb and I had to force myself to finish it.
Just started getting into the Omnibus world. So far I've got: All Berserk Deluxe All Spawn Origins Deluxe Venom vs Spiderman Venomnibus 1 Wolverine Omnibus 1 Mark Millar Wolvering Omnibus Punisher Omnibus 1 Savage Avengers Omnibus Knightfall, Knightquest, Knightsend Hardcover Omnibus
My most overrated is not an omni, but it is a series/ line of books. The Incal. Can't stand it. Every page turn was met with an "UGH." I get it, the art at that time was significant, but reading it now was a bore, a chore, and a snore. It's kinda like when someone says "how can you like heavy metal but not like Skinnard/Floyd/Zeppelin?"
Yep, felt Incal was was ok, unfortunately bought the Final and Before books before I read Incal, so I could have the set. Not sure I will ever really get round to it. The World of Edena is also pretty trash. The odd breathtaking panel, but as a whole pretty trash. Annihilation and Conquest. Nove arc was great but I can hardly remember what else happened. They were ok at best, sold them once read.
Not so sure about this new video format 😅 Would've enjoyed it more if you made a list of titles and talked about each clearly, this feels like you reading through comments in a very "rambly" and inconsistent way 😅
I'm late here but the most over rated for me are the Immortal Hulk omnibus and Superior Spiderman. I thought immortal hulk was decent but there are better runs in my opinion. I thought Superior spiderman was dogshit. And im a clone saga fan haha
Hmmmm, in terms of Overrated? Gotta say its Aquaman by Geoff Johns. All i read everywhere i look is that its excellent but there are so many ball drops of stories in there that i dont like it.
For me the most overrated omnibus is Astonishing X-men by joss. I didn’t think it was horrible but it definitely wasn’t as good as people made it out to be. Honestly I preferred new X-men
To me, it was Snyder’s Batman. I started reading comics in 2018 and got into Tom King’s run and I loved them. I heard Snyder’s run was better, and court of owls was amazing. So when Snyder’s run released In omnibus I got it, and I thought it was good story, definitely a fun read, but I still like Tom King and James Tynion IV Batman runs better. I know Snyder’s run is definitely not overrated by fans, but to me it was.
Id vouch for jonathon hickmans avengers. Too many characters too many storylines. I also felt like it jumped around too much and stuff happened off pages.
Damn, i hope JP at least appreciated that Animal Man more 🤣 just read it for the first time recently and its such a high bar among comics, hard disagree, it aged like a fine wine. Also obligatory defense for the Boys, easily one of the smoothest reads for a long run ive ever had
Is there any omnibus that hadn’t been mentioned here… haters gonna etc etc. that said, Morrison’s New X-Men was chewier than a £5 steak and some of that art made me want to spoon my eyes out
for me it's superior spiderman while i thought it was a good story I really do not consider it one of the best spidey stories/runs ain't even close to stuff like usm and jms
Uncanny X-Force is so overrated. I read it and said, "This is what all the fuss is about?" Kyle and Yost X-Force is far, far better. Y, the Last Man has the worse ending I have ever experienced, fuck that entire omni.
I need to be honest here… Grant Morrison’s Batman… the entire run. I don’t think his JLA run was great either. Waid’s Tower of Babel storyline crushes everything he did in that run. I’m not even a Morrison hater. I actually love Final Crisis. My most overrated events in general: Infinity Gauntlet and Maximum Carnage. Also, I legit do not like All Star Superman. It’s on almost every Superman top 10, and I just don’t get why. Lastly, TDKR. I don’t like Frank Miller on Batman or Superman.
I agree with Immortal Hulk. I think the first arc was great an what the hype was about. The remainder was ok at best. Hated the body horror art and felt it was completely unnecessary. There only to continue the "horror" theme that was established in the first arc. I actually read it as OHC sold it just before the omni came out. The leader arc was decent, too.
FF by John Byrne. The stuff about Galactus is great, but everything else is boring AF. Vol 2 is worse: the new FF member she-hulk is portrayed pretty two dimensions, and the sudden romance between human torch and a certain someone feels pretty forced.
100% agree although it was a great run people told me the book is a “Masterpiece” and a “work of art” and since I was new to collecting omnis I decided to purchase the book only to be disappointed with how the story was constructed with characters popping in and out of the story and not really having a lasting effect on me like other comic runs.
Blasphemy! 😂 it was my first comic book I ever check out from the library so I'm biased. But I can see if your trying to read it straight through omnibus-style it's dense and loses its staying power. Plus it takes a while to really get started.
Anyone who claims the following omnibus volumes from Marvel are "overrated" (btw, a word that has lost all meaning for me in this world in the past 7 years or so due to it being overused by ungrateful people), are completely misguided and lost and need to understand what a great comic story is: - Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender. **One of the best modern xmen runs since 2000s, and is my favorite x-force incarnation of all time. I also loved Kyle & Yost X-Force that was 27 issues long and ended at Xmen Second Coming event. Awesome story arcs and amazing character depictions and team roster. It was so good. The only weak story in that black ops X force was Necrosha arc.) - Claremont classic iconic and LEGENDARY 17 yr run on UXM..uncanny Xmen by chris claremont, with all the excellent artists ie. Dave Cockrum, John Byrne, Paul Smith, Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee, Romita jr, etc... cannot be overrated. It is well earned in its magic and wonder. That is THE X-MEN! Period. - Thor by Walt Simonson. Such great thor stories. I havent read most of it, but i really enjoyed the first 2 tpbs of Simonson's Thor. I cant wait to get that omnibus - FF by Hickman. **Greatest Fantastic Four series of the post 2000s into the modern age. That "fantastic" run from about 2009 to 2012 is now the defining FF saga that many new generations of Marvel readers can get lost into and appreciate. I loved vol 1 omnibus and i have to get FF vol 2 by hickman.. Its so good 👍🏻🎉! - FF john Byrne.. best FF fun after stan lee and jack kirby's original classic. Overrated? No. That word is overrated. Stfu 🤡. - Spider Man by Roger Stern omnibus. **Not overrated. Great spidey classic stories of the early 80s that might not resonate with newer readers. Not all great, but they are in a special period of ASM comics. All these CANNOT BE overrated. They are rated with admiration, respect and love.
