I love the transfer portal! When I attended the University of Arizona, I wished this was in effect. The NIL clause as well!! I'm happy to see these kids being compensated. The whole "student athlete" ideology died when the business of college sports started garnering billions of dollars off the blood,sweat,broken bones, career ending torn ligaments, and tendons of these kids. I applaud the NCAA for amending the rules. Also,with the new system, fewer kids will be less enticed to prematurely enter the draft before obtaining their undergrad degree.

Let’s say your D3 or D2 and doing very well could you Transfer to a different Division?

Do the same guidelines apply for NJCAA (Junior college) athletes that are looking to attend/play at a d1/d2 university for example? And what about a JUCO sophomore about to graduate who would like to throw their name into the ring of possibly playing university level ball… could they enter the transfer portal? Thanks for sharing your insight!

Junior college is definitely different from the traditional transfer portal. As long as your are a full qualifier out of high school, you can transfer from a junior college to a four-year school after either one or two years. If you are only a partial qualifier out of high school, you would need to graduate with an associate's degree from a junior college before transferring to a four-year school. You do not need to enter the transfer portal to move from a junior college to a four-year school.

Can an athlete ask a coach at a different school if they can transfer to them ?

You would need to talk to your current school and enter the transfer portal before communicating with other schools

We probably should all know what the transfer portal is. And I don't have a problem with the portal itself it's the number of times people are using the transfer portal. Once or twice ok. 3-4 NO!

Student-athlete had to get a “permission to speak letter” from the administration, before they could initiate conversations with another school. And yes, schools could and routinely denied student-athletes from obtaining this permission to speak letter.

@@TheLite0003 that’s crazy that they needed permission just to talk to another school. It should be no different than a non-athlete student inquiring about other schools, applying and transferring
