Someone who has served their time should have ALL their constitutional rights again when they are free
@brucew7062
@brucew7062 16 дней назад
Including those who were convicted of a crime where a gun was used in the commission of the crime? Including violent offenders? There has to be some constraints on any change to possibly allow even some convicts to restore some of their rights. I never understood taking away their right to vote, but taking away their right to purchase, possess, or own a gun makes sense for many of them.
@johnwest6199
@johnwest6199 16 дней назад
@@brucew7062 if they are still a threat then they shouldn't be released. Everyone knows a criminal can get a gun anyway
@brucew7062
@brucew7062 16 дней назад
@@johnwest6199 some are still a threat, but do their sentence and are let out because there is no legal basis to incarcerate them further. I know of one who was arrested for low-level burglary (stealing copper), did a few years, and then got rearrested after he committed another robbery at gunpoint and they added aggravated assault to it. He “did his time” and only difference is that he could have legally owned a firearm if we let all offenders do so after release.

The ATF is not a governing body but only an enforcement agency. The Congress is the governing body. So ATF should not be able to make any rules or 'laws' concerning firearms and changing definitions should not be implemented or enforced. In fact there should be no more laws restricting ownership or regulating firearms.

@subjectofgov

Congress, sometime over the years, have given different gov agencies which eventually became all of them the power to make rules with the force and effect of law. It saves Congress the time it takes to make mountains of laws each year. However the people are then faced with whatever fines and punishments have been dictated by unelected officials for being in error of whatever rule the officials made yesterday.
@brucebradsher9882
@brucebradsher9882 15 дней назад
Based on his explanation on what they are trying to do with this rule it is completely unnecessary and redundant. It is already against the law to knowingly sell a firearm to a prohibited person. But we all know it is more about control than anything else.

What is the point of any of these ATF rules when “catch and release” and zero bail is the norm? Currently, there is no (zero) law enforcement follow up on more than 90% of the incidents where a person goes through the Form 4473 process and is rejected. That ignores private sales entirely, black market or otherwise. The psycho who murdered 18 people in Lewiston,Maine last year had failed a 4473 application (among many other clear warning signs) and police did NOTHING. Therefore, there must be some purpose other than preventing criminals from obtaining firearms. Namely making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to protect themselves. Lord knows that a Justice Department headed by this conniving liar has other priorities. Just look at crimes rates during his tenure.
@harveywilkinson2432

The 2nd Amendment absolutely informs this discussion, as the feds may not single out the firearms industry or sales for special taxes and licenses that do not apply to every other business. "Shall not be infringed" is clear and non-specific as to the manner of infringement. Repeal the NFA and GCA.
@odsuite
@odsuite 15 дней назад
According to the authors of the second amendment, I should be able to purchase the same guns as the US military! The Government should hold absolutely NO SWAY over my purchase of any firearm. Literally, if I could afford a Tank, I should be able to purchase a Tank! There were no restrictions. All throughout the west in the 1800s, men carried the same Winchester and Henry repeating rifles as any soldier. If they could afford a Gatling gun, I'm sure they could've purchased one! Although carrying it around might have posed a problem, it was still accessible! Its NOT the US governments job to tell me what weapons I can and cannot own in America... or where/who I can buy them from!
