Heart disease is the number-one killer in the world. Despite ever-advancing medical procedures and more and more powerful pharmaceutical drugs, and a marked reduction in smoking, the rate of heart disease continues to rise.
Discover the little-known truths about heart health as we welcome Dr. Stephen Hussey, author of the book "Understanding the Heart", on this episode of the Plant-Free MD Podcast.
Dr. Hussey shares his incredible health journey, from battling inflammatory conditions, allergies, and type 1 diabetes as a child to turning his health around through lifestyle changes and functional medicine. He digs deep into what truly causes atherosclerosis, debunking common myths around cholesterol and heart disease.
We delve into his recent book, exploring the groundbreaking information that challenges what mainstream medicine tells us about diseases. With this eye-opening conversation, we aim to empower you with knowledge about preventative health and holistic wellbeing. Plus, Dr. Hussey spills the beans on why our current pharmaceutical-based healthcare system might not be the answer to our growing health issues.
Whether you're looking to improve your heart health, better manage chronic conditions, or just want to unlock the secrets to holistic health and wellness, this episode is a must-watch!

Weird how one of the best and most informative interviews on health I've seen has lower than average views. When I started my health journey, I did a search. Slowly I've gotten away from the top search results and feel more truth from the up-and-coming 2000 view range. Dr Chaffee is my biggest Sub follow and it's because he continues to focus on answers and not what popular. Much respect.

On the section for what causes atherosclerosis, Dr. Chaffee correct me if I'm wrong but it is my understanding that when the LDL particles become dense and no longer buoyant aka oxidized (from seed oils) (HNE4) they interact with the endothelium causing white blood cells to have to repair the damage causing foam cells aka plaque leading to hypertension and then atherosclerosis.

The explanation of the the mechanism behind insulin sensitivity helping with arterial repair was enlightening. I agree that insults to the arterial wall that result in clotting are the cause of cardiovascular disease. Those that eat a lot of junk food - unfortunately a majority in the US - are constantly generating arterial insults because of the glucose spikes and oxidized fats. If the repair mechanism is broken due to insulin resistance, this leads to cardiovascular disease.

I'm not a doctor but I've heard Dr. Chaffee mention this before. Fructose causes gout so if you aren't eating any fructose on a carnivore diet you don't get gout. Basically the increased uric acid doesn't matter if fructose is not in the equation. I also heard it mentioned that a lot of doctors tell patients to quit red meat if they get gout because they assume people would have an easier time quitting red meat than sugar/fructose (even though they don't tell the patients their reasoning behind it which is ridiculous).

It was primarily carnivorous humans in ketosis most of the time that domesticated plants to have more carbs in them right. We don't get much from or even want to eat plants that aren't either sweet or have starch but carbs to store up fat for to get us through a famine but are not essential and it carbs that raises insulin and insulin resistance that cause atherosclerosis. See Dr. Joseph Kraft.

Blood Pressure anyone ? ... when I feel a 'pulse' ..there is pressure (from heart pumping..?) ..when pulse goes away..( so does the 'patient')... AV/SA nodes firing to make heart muscle pump correctly.. nodes don't fire right.. heart doesn't pump right... patient demise,,,,? There is a 'pump' going on and your 'hydrodynamic' peripheral vascular/arteriole theory too... no(?), both perhaps ( and in CPR if you don't compress enough or rate correctly it 'doesn't work' ) ? 'Brownian movement' in high frequency ventilation (Pos Press Vent), also requires a source/beginning press.( the ventilator ). ..ie.. it doesn't happen on it's own, or there would be no need for the ventilator/'PPV if it did ...? The 'pressure (..ie..provided by 'the pump') has to be 'just right' not only in heart function but with 'Brownian movement' in Positive Pressure Ventilation too or again... physiologic/patient demise... You are losing me with the 'downplay' of mechanical heart 'pump' pressures and seemingly making it 'insignificant' in design.. yet I do relate to the reality that the 'heart pump' would not have an effect way down on the peripheral flow of distal small arteries ..etc..(thus supporting need for another mechanism of flow) fascinating to contemplate.. thanks.. RRT (Resp Ther)... and lastly my 'epiphany' would be that the heart is closer to the head/brain and not your feet because the flow of blood to your brain is vital to all else (that's why blood SPURTS) from severed carotid arteries ..it's being PUMPED up there,... ( but the heart serving as a 'regulator' of flow, and pressure being a result of blood volume and the 'energy' flow you speak of within it, press created when valves 'stop' the flow temporarily ..?..I guess...) (I will always only know what I think I know).. Thanks..

You really need to be careful talking about exclusion zone water and alternate heart function hypotheses. The other stuff is great - about real causes of atherosclerosis. But I'm already having enough trouble selling any part of that to friends and family - who are at risk, who need to go low carb, keto or carnivore - but won't. The exclusion zone and heart stuff may be true or partially true. If another viewer is reading this and already getting mad at me - getting ready to pop off an angry response to put me in my place and say how much you believe it all - stop. Don't. You don't understand what I'm saying. I'm not saying it's wrong. I'm saying "why sing to the choir when we need to convert and save other people who are much harder to convince - they're still very brainwashed, like I was not long ago." Please, keep this in mind if you still feel you need to pop off at me, Please at least understand what I'm saying and don't make a reply based on something I absolutely did not say. I may sound hair-trigger here - sorry - but I've had so, so many of these flawed replies in the past few weeks that it's getting very frustrating. Okay, as far as I can tell, exclusion zone water and the heart stuff is based on some hypotheses and studies that aren't well accepted, aren't well understood, and may be flawed. I'm not even sure exactly which ones you mean. We're already having enough trouble trying to convince people we care about to just lower carbs. To stop eating PUFA. Simple and essential stuff like that. When you pile on this really radical "woo-woo sounding" stuff ... I just want to give up. I can't use this video to help me convert normal people to keto or low carb. They get to that part and tell me I'm nuts to believe any of this. What do we gain? Nothing. Again, you're singing to the choir - people who are very open-minded (or naive) are willing to accept it. Most humans won't. We make a strong case for atherosclerosis - we got them listening when we say this simple diet change will save you from diabetes and a heart attack ... okay they are at least listening. But now exclusion zone water - sh*t, they're gone. That sounds science fiction. What good does it gain us? Nothing! If we need more IR, sell that separately - sell it for the other reasons - we got a long, LONG way to go on this exclusion zone stuff and the full load of IR stuff. It may not all be readl. And then the heart stuff - what good does that do us? Now sure, a lot of people will post about how interesting it is. Great. They're already sold on keto or low carb, for the most part. If you absolutely must talk about exclusion zone water and this wonky new heart stuff, at least respect the fact that most people are going think it's "woo woo" right out the gate. For goodness sake, do DAMAGE CONTROL. Be mindful of the problems. Have some empathy for people who aren't easily convinced. Stress, look, this other key stuff over here - the diet stuff, the low carb or keto stuff - is absolutely proved and well understood, and you need to accept it. Now that we've established that, I'm going to talk about some cutting-edge stuff that is not well accepted - we may need to dig more and see how real it is, but it's fascinating. Be ready, cuz I'm gonna sound like I've gone all "edge lord" here - but yeah, I'm still investigating it - but here it is.... And then describe the exclusion zone stuff, the weird heart stuff. Honestly, my first reaction to hearing this is: "Crap, I'm killing myself doing keto. I'm killing myself eating saturated fat. This chiropractor is telling me 'whatever he believes must be garbage.'" I have to then step back and unpack that - and de-tox my mind - and fix my beliefs. You can believe me. You can reject me. It's not about who is absolutely "right or wrong" here. There's no dichotomy here, so please don't invent one. It's this - do you want to sell skeptical people you care about on keto/low carb? On not eating PUFA? If yes, then please, let's all better consider how to do this. Thanks. I am trying to help and not to attack.

You really need to be careful talking about exclusion zone water. The other stuff is great - about real causes of atherosclerosis. The problem with exclusion zone water is that you can't help but make is sound like so much "woo woo". We don't know enough about it to draw the kinds of conclusions you state. Sure, there may be something to it, but here's the problem. For every one person who is curious about it and trusts you on it, there are at least 20 who say, "Oh, I knew this was all b.s. And this confirms it. These guys are woo-peddlers. They're con artists." You impulse is to lead us down the rabbit hole - and then pile on all this other stuff. Sure, it's fascinating, but it doesn't belong here. When you say the heart isn't a pump and that blood keeps moving after death - which isn't what you said, but that's what most people hear - you lose them. If the heart is stopped, we die - unless a doc can turn it back on in time, so to speak. What good does all this do when the main vector is atherosclerosis and macronutrient rations (diet). We need to focus on what's important. This is a battle. Water exclusion zones is not a battle that wins us anything - there's no reason to try fighting it. At best it wears us out, and I strongly suspect it drives away people we need to win over.
