I have had the misfortune to interact with leaders in recent years who lack exactly these qualities, these speaks to me because if they actually applied these words, their employees' lives would be turned around. It also shows me what happens when those unsuited to leadership are sat within those roles. These are principles in the place I lead we try to apply on a daily basis, we don't always succeed, but these are goals to aim at, every day. A powerful message.
Role of a leader-give explanation to all about the direction of the journey, take action and clean all the clutters on the journey, get excited about people success and not jealousy, have fun and celebrate on even small victories to give a real impact to people's life.
I just want to tell you how grateful I am for you.. I appreciate you putting time and energy into this video. Excellent job!! I just want to tell you how amazing you are. You are one of the most talented people I know in this field. . You got a incredible heart.
Nilesh Jogal managing people is hard. Very HARD. Tht’s why leadership is crucial. People dont manage people, but lead them, guide them. Tht’s what leadership are! Cheers!
I always come back to this video looking for inspiration... as a leader we must have this 3 roles as a role, but in a daily basis these are easy to forget.
Insightful. I like the fact the Jack encourages us provide leadership from a moral perspective because one cannot do good when they do not feel good inside.
Great success, very difficult for any successor to imitate ... it is a DNA that can’t be replicated - so take the great lessons within your own DNA 👍👍👍
4:23 PM 12/20/2022 Jack Welch is good enough to talk politics if he wanted to. I was wondering if he was arguing with all these warvet officers about politics awhile back. He was teaching leadership courses at CIAU (Central Intelligence Agency University)??? The reason why I thought this was cool is because he understands the science of management from being chairman or CEO of General Electric back in the day. He has the reputation of being a hardass how they portray him when alot of people dont know who he is. Hes at the very top looking down on the employees of GE hiring and firing controlling this. He knew how to set the system up keeping the more experienced worker types in GE and when to get rid of bureaucracies. Alot of people dont know what a bureaucracy is. I have to relate it to the military for this I dont want to. Its like a chain of command talking to BC and SGM. Jack Welch would set something up to where the companies can bring issues and gripes at work straight to the BC and SGM getting rid of the 1SG and COs. Things would work faster and more smoother for some of these scenarios. We were wasting time and money with 1SGs and COs in the system at GE and Jack Welch understands this. Jack Welch has the experience in this and was able to apply his experience in Federal Govt setting a simaliar system up with CIA.
The role of a leader: Spread fear and distrust in your organisation. Promote people that put them self in front of others, instead of people that work well together. Most important: All decisions should be focused on pumping up the stock price here and now, and please do not think about the long-term survival of the company. If you do all this, you are a true leader, a true Jack Welch.
Jack was proud of firing people by the thousands. Nothing made him more happy to fire massively people. He ruined GE and started that mentality of employees are disposable.
Nope he was just too good if I was on the bottom 10 % of the workers I would be ashamed of myself and would say I deserve to be fired we are not here for the charity remember that it has the place and time to do so
Welch was obviously a shrewd CEO and great for G.E.'s bottom line...but he was brutally ruthless and cold as a northern wind when it came to abrubtly firing all kinds of folks who thought they had comfortable long term careers at GE and GE owned companies. Lots of folks had to regularly clean out there desk on a Monday morning crying and unemployed that didn't see "it" coming. But...no doubt one of the great American CEO's of all time as far as creating share holder value. Bet he had fun being the GE puppet master from the corner penthouse office suite. R.I.P. Mr. Welch _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________- Welch practically invented the so-called "rank and yank" policies used now by other corporate entities. Each year, Welch would fire the bottom 10% of his managers, regardless of absolute performance. During the 1980s Welch was dubbed "Neutron Jack" (in reference to the neutron bomb) for eliminating employees while leaving buildings intact. In Jack: Straight From The Gut, Welch stated GE had 411,000 employees at the end of 1980, and 299,000 at the end of 1985. Of the 112,000 who left the payroll, 37,000 were in businesses which GE sold off, and 81,000 were reduced in continuing businesses. In return, GE had tremendously increased its market capitalization. Welch reduced basic research, and closed or sold off under-performing businesses.
What is the role of a leader? Arouse the energies available, in order to channel them, by positive authority, this authority which means for these energies, that they can, towards the achievement of the objectives. Objectives conceived as they fascinate sensitivities.
It seems like Mr. Welch is in the ages to give advices. It's another question if there will be peoples listening or peoples denying what he's saying. The reality is function of our own perception. That's where the thin boundary between the realism and idealism is formed. That boundary is dynamic, it depends from the changes we are living when growing and becoming more experienced. Some peoples need to make his own mistakes to learn something - other can listen to proved as a great experts guys, like Jack Welch, to avoid some mistakes and to accelerate his own growing as specialists in specific area. In that case the area is the leadership - area where Mr. Welch is well known ... and eventually can be trusted ;-) Sapienti Sat.
He ran the most successful and valuable company in America for 2 decades. I would say he has proven he knows what he is talking about. You might want to take his advice.
IIRC this is the same guy that wrote a book called Integrity , then he dumped his wife for the woman who helped him write it. INTEGRITY OK. NEUTRON JACK. First rule DON'T BE A RAGING HYPOCRITE!!
