If you sit still long enough to take in everything around you, you start to notice silent spots moving through the forest past you. Like a 6th sense, you can detect a silent animal moving through complete darkness just by listening for the quiet. This can be something as small as a fox. Here's a twist on that. Each separate consciousness is the universe creating new ways to learn about itself. It's not reincarnation so much as each individual human, animal, plant, insect, octopus... etc collects their own experience for a short while, and then eventually dies and its experience is integrated into the universe's "collective" consciousness. The universe being its own conscious entity, but with no sensory organs with which to view or understand itself, so it begins to arrange things in complex ways, creating more and more complex life forms to observe itself with.

I have my own variation, I call it "troglodyte avoidance theory." Basically, one or more other hominid species probably ate ancestral modern humans, I presume Homo erectus in particular. Well, they looked more like us than a chimpanzee, but still not quite right. And they wouldn't act exactly like us either. So we evolved a good sense of whether or not something that looks like a person actually is, and now they're all extinct, but that trait never went away.
@N0sf3r4tuR1s3n
@N0sf3r4tuR1s3n 5 месяцев назад
Huh, maybe this one will post. Presume that H. erectus would consume modern humans when they got the chance. They looked close to us, but not entirely. They wouldn't have acted entirely like us. So we evolved a good sense of whether something is or isn't a person. That's my personal hypothesis anyway.

This isn't what I'd call a scary theory, but I feel discouraged by it. It's my "Time bubble" theory. Light travels at a constant rate. On the universal scale, it's kind of slow actually. Let's pretend we have a perfect telescope that can zoom as far as we want to look with perfect detail. Yay! Now let's observe an object 1 Light year away from us zoomed in so close it's like you're standing there. Well, the light your telescope is taking in for you to see that left 1 year ago. You are looking 1 year into the past. That object you're seeing is not presently in that location, and a year has passed since what you're seeing. Let's now pretend that you got in your merry little space ship with its merry little FTL warp drive, and brought your telescope on a brisk 6 trillion mile cruise out there. You are now 1 light year away from Earth. You use your telescope to look at Earth up close. You are seeing 1 year into Earth's past. In theory you could try to remember where you were a year ago, and actually watch yourself on Earth through the telescope (if you could warp drive out there faster than light). I'm 31 years old at the time of writing this, in theory if I went about 31 light years away from Earth with a perfect telescope, I could watch my own birth occur. Okay let's get bigger. The Milky Way galaxy is about 100,000 light years across. You fly out to the edge of it, and you zoom your perfect telescope all the way to look at the farthest object on the other end of the galaxy. A cute little blue moon. You are now looking 100,000 years into the past. Since your merry little ship can travel faster than light, you go ahead and fly across the Milky Way in 10 minutes to check out the cute little blue moon, but when you get there it's an entirely different place... that blue moon is a reddish brown rock right now... because 100,000 years have passed since the light left the object you looked at. So because light moves so incredibly slowly on a cosmic scale, the farther we look into space the further we are looking into the past. We do not get to observe the distant present day. This makes finding other intelligent life VERY much more difficult, and it poses the same challenge for others finding us. If a planet with intelligent life exists right now about 5000 light years away, and they have a perfect telescope to see Earth with, they would find life... but our peak technology at that time might've been the wooden spear. We exist in a time bubble caused by light's slow speed, the farther we look out, the further back we see in time. Outside of our bubble is the distant present day, and it is beyond reach. There's no current way around this.

If we are able to create a simulated universe, especially one that is advanced enough to create its own simulated universe then there is no reason to believe that we are the first. If this can happen an infinite number of times (your simulated universe makes another simulated universe and so on) then statistically the chances we are the original is basically zero.

Story 4 The Fermi Paradox. It is not just ONE Great Filter. There are many we THINK are there. And according to scientists we have passed the vast majority of them already. But I believe the Fermi Paradox is fundamentally flawed. Fermi came up with this back in 1950's IIRC. We were just starting to get a good idea of how old the Universe was. And Fermi was pretty sure we would destroy ourselves with nuclear weapons. Even at our peak during the Cold War we did not have enough to kill off all life on the planet. Right now we have about 16 megatons of nuclear weapons total world wide. Mt. Tambora IIRC exploded with a force estimated at 33 gigatons of TNT. Or many times our combined nuclear arsenal. And remember Hiroshima was fully reoccupied in the 1960's after being directly bombed with a nuclear weapon about 20 years before. I think the Fermi Paradox is flawed because the basic premise of it is if the Universe is so ancient (about 13 billion years old) why then are there no other civilizations out there. First while 13 billion years is a long time to us, that is because we live relatively short lives compared to even some other creatures on Earth. Compared to stars that have life spans in the billions and many in the trillions of years, and new star formation is not expected to end for hundreds of billions to a few trillion years from now, and the over all life span of the Universe is estimated in the quadrillions and quintillions of years (and those are the conservative estimates); the Universe is itself quite young. Second. For the first millions of years the Universe was too dense and hot for even stars to form. Then for the next few billions of years super sized stars formed that went super nova in millions of years to make elelments heavier than Hydrogen. No planet could have formed in the early, early universe as only Hydrogen existed. Third. Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago approximately. It took until just over 100 years ago for us to even start being able to hear or send signals. So I and others believe the real answer is we are the First in our area and maybe even in our entire galactic super cluster. Given that the age of the Universe is young in terms of the Universe and not in terms of how many generations of us have past.

What if this isn't even the first time we've done this? That we've bombed ourselves back to the stone age multiple times and any signals we get back aren't actually other intelligent life cuz of the time bubble. What if it was just us from the past?
@davidtherwhanger6795
@davidtherwhanger6795 5 месяцев назад
@@number3766 It doesn't work that way. We cannot have bombed ourselves back to the stone age multiple times, not even once before. We use Fossil Fuels because they are energy dense and easy to use. If we had developed technology even once before to a point we could bomb ourselves back to the stone age then our ancestors would have used that supply of Fossil Fuels up as well. Because why would they do things the hard way for hundreds or thousands of years? Also people had to survive right? Otherwise we would not have had multiple restarts as you believe, or even one. Why then should we expect that all the scientists, mechanics, doctors, or anyone with any skills were the ones killed leaving only the untrained and uneducated as the sole survivors? Why would there be no examples of technology left around them? Simply put there would be many examples of tech still around and in working order. There would be many people that survive that knew how to operate and fix that tech. So civilization would have restarted in about a century or two. Not the tens of thousands of years or millions of years your going back to the stone age implies. And we simply don't see that. So no it has not happened. Then you have the signal problem. To get a signal back as you say. It would have to be transmitted from somewhere outside our solar system back to our solar system. Much like the Voyager Probes do now. However their signal is incredibly weak, and we loose it often even knowing where to point our receivers and what frequency to listen to. A Probe we make with the tech we have would not be able to last long enough to send a signal back to us over centuries, much less the tens of thousands or millions of years you are thinking. They would have run out of power long before that. So no, we are the first civilization on this planet that has made it this far or anywhere near this far.
@ambassadorofbadtaste

Unfortunately, this civilization turned so nihilistic that they won't acknowledge the simple fact that we are either one of the first or the first civilization to ever exist, simply because the universe is so young. No, no, no, it must be that we will exterminate ourselves with this amount of nuclear weapons, even though it simply takes us one French transformation into a revolutionist to turn the sides of fate of ours. Sure, not very ethical, but at least that will preserve our future as an interstellar civilization or even intergalactic

I think the whole fermi paradox is just nonsense, even for the guy who "invented" it it was merely a small sidejoke and now nerds think its a thing. If you just add radiation to the equation you see that 99% of all star become unsuitable for life lets take red stars they may have a calculated " habitable zone" but they also tend to emit powefull solar bursts which essentially blow away any possible atmosphere regardless of magnetosphere moons etc. So all planets are barren rocks and we were just very very lucks probably so lucky that the chances of creating human like intelligence is 1: entire observable universe.

From story 3, I’ve had that exact same thought for years literally since I was kid. I was always curious on why do I (Myself) see out of my eyes, like In 1st person, but everybody else is in 3rd person to me if that makes sense cause I can’t see out of their eyes, why am I (Myself) in control of my body & thoughts, like what makes me… ME!? If that makes any sense at all but I’ve had this feeling pretty much as long as I can remember and I’m not religious, I grew up religious but had a falling out, now just don’t believe necessarily but I do In a creator. (Higher Power) Another thing sorry but maybe this one is just me, but when you aren’t even thinking of a specific thing and a thought pops into your head out of nowhere! The subject of conversation had no relevance to the thought that appeared in your head. Is that somebody or something putting that thought into my brain same goes with false memories, if it’s false and you remember it so clearly, was that put there by something or was it simply just your imagination idk but pretty interesting stuff.

The idea being that you could be in the matrix, and your senses cannot be trusted because they are all electrical signals being sent to your brain. Electrical signals, which can be manipulated. I have yet to talk to someone that can really prove they exist. I can’t either. It has stumped everyone i have asked.

Got a few though I don't remember what their official titles are. An old forgotten one was about what happens to society that perfects the concept of beauty, such as implants and restoration surgeries. Sure at a glance it'd seem like a utopia with everyone being able to be their most physically ideal self, but what's to stop said powers that enabled this possibility from weaponizing it to enforce conformity & compliance? It'd become a dystopia at the flick of a switch, with the upperclass deciding who gets repaired & perfected while keeping upstarts disfigured and disabled. Another theory was of duplicates, whether it's because of cloning or time travel or parallel universes or whathaveyou, it's said you should kill your doppelganger because both of you innately know there should only be one of you. But then there's the question of why, is it because some higher power knows someone could cause significant harm/change having extras of themselves, or is it related to the uncanny valley and our desire to avoid or destroy things that shouldn't be imitating us? And lastly is the reminder we're conveniently in the goldilocks zone, just at the right orbital spot around the sun without burning or freezing. Ironically a common doomsday trope is for a huge asteroid would crash into earth and the impact would destroy us all. Except that'd be a best case scenario, what if such a devastating encounter didn't hit the earth but merely drifted through our solar system? If its gravitational pull was significant it could pull the moon out of orbit leaving the earth to uncontrollably wobble, if it had an immense pull the gravitational wave could nudge the earth into a spiral either into the sun or out into the void. And that's not considering if it caused a domino effect of planetary collisions or deorbiting.

This chain continues until every person in the universe is theoretically the only self aware one, meaning all of us are self aware.

I've heard that our galaxy is in the Local Hole Void and all other galaxies in the void are empty because the probability of life forming in galaxies in a void is very rare but we're that one place where life was able to form. Though our void is not that empty because we do have the local group and a supercluster of galaxies nearby. There's also the biggest void known in the universe called the Boötes Void where it's like something hundreds million light years big but only has 60 galaxies in it. A youtuber compared it to like finding only 60 items or things in the entirety of the US. Initially it was known to be only 8 galaxies. And there are two theories I found on the internet abt it; one is more realistic, other is theoretically but my favorite one. The realistic one is that that area where it was initially filled with small and young galaxies that eventually merged together until there was only 60 left. My favourite theory is that there is a type 3 civilisation on the Kardeshev scale that was formed within the Boötes Void and they've been just going around consuming the energies of all stars around galaxies and forming dyson spheres around stars for 700 million years, since the Boötes we see now is from 700 million years ago?

We could then use the new technology to reduce pollution and restore Earth to a cleaner state; if this is true, any effort to halt fossil fuels would actually prevent humanity from reaching this goal. Also, by reducing our population, we limit the amount of minds that can collectively create new breakthroughs. I had a weird theory one day that just randomly came to me. If the Universe is so absurdly large and theoretically infinite, then that means all possibilities could exist, which means, somewhere out there, humans exist. Exactly like us, just on a different planet. If the universe is infinite, statistically, this has to be true. It's weird to think about especially because, the human mind just cannot comprehend how vast our universe is. You might be like "Yeah, it's big" but to fully understand the actual scale is not possible. So not only are there other humans out there, they could also exist on multiple planets, not just Earth and one other, theoretically, there are more.

MY ENTIRE LIFE HAS FELT LIKE STORY 8. YET I HAVE NEVER BEEN INTRODUCED TO THAT THEORY. IS THAT PERSONAL OR IS THERE SOMEWHERE ELSE I CAN FURTHER STUDY THAT THEORY. PLEASE RESPOND

Life exists naturally around purple stars. The anode glow blocks out radio signals. We’re screaming out into the void to people who can’t hear us.

the third one, solipsism, once you get hit in the face with a punch you get a reality check and get to know other people are indeed real... and pretty dangerous.

Simulation Hypothesis Story 8. There is no way to prove or disprove this is or is not happening. I and others do not believe it is because why then would we be allowed to continue thinking it was a simulation? Anyone actually running a simulation we would be in has every reason to make sure we never come to that conclusion. Because thinking that way changes how we act. As was demonstrated by OP in Story 8 wanting people to not have kids because they believed this was a simulation. That act is dangerous as it would soon end the simulation with a high likelyhood of ending it prematurely. In which case those who ran it would have to start all over again. Also if you know it is a simulation, then there is a chance you could learn how to game it. As a simulation it would have absolute rules on everything and not just physics. Figuring out those rules would allow you to alter, irrevocably, the end result of the simulation. And as a simulation it would have been simple for the program running it to simply not allow anyone to ever think they are in a simulation, or just delete that thought as soon as it happened. And anything as wide spread as this hypothesis is right now could not be missed. So I don't believe we are in a simulation.

First off it's incredibly arrogant to assume that if a simulation were possible of creating in the first place that our own would matter enough to police from outside the substrate, and doubly arrogant to assume even if it WERE possible to police from outside the substrate needing to do anything would be necessary. It's quite possible that you've achieved a sense of self awareness that has put you on an alternate earth "timeline" right now, you're part of a earth C-2 and you wouldn't even know it anymore would you? Secondly even if there WAS people outside the simulation who gave a fuck there's probably a temporal disconnect similar to inception or when you fast forward the sims or some such, time doesn't need to work the same and probably doesn't. Third even if it were even possible to interfere and time and space made sense to do so, why? Perhaps allowing for conscientiousness is the product of creating artificial intelligence, like the entire purpose of the simulation was to mine for sparks of intelligence among otherwise similar computer programs and THIS was the only way to "create" AI was to farm simulations till you get this strange unexplainable phenomena. In that event not only would you not want to interfere with self aware simulations YOU WOULD ACTUALLY PROMOTE IT. To put thing simply if it were even possible at ALL to make a simulation of this complexity, there are a near INFINITE amount of simulations sharing similar substrates, meaning nobody gives a fuck about this one, don't be so self centered. There's no reason for a program to erase every single erroneous though it has, perhaps it just contains you in a paradox of sorts. You're probably both in a simulation and a simulation of a simulation right at this moment.

@@GuardDog42 You would not have actual people policing the program. You would have the program do that. So how fast the program went time would not matter. After all we do put controls in on all kinds of experiments. If this is a simulation it too is an experiment. Why would any who made the simulation not care about it's results? That doesn't make any sense. In your last paragraph you stated that if any one could make a simulation this complex they would have a near infinite number of simulations going on inside it that no one would care about. Do you start random simulations with no goal? Do you know of anyone who does? So why would whom ever made this simulated universe run untold simulations within it that didn't have any reason or purpose?
@GuardDog42
@GuardDog42 6 месяцев назад
@@davidtherwhanger6795Depends on how the substrate works in general but yes you're right it's equally possible the temporal effect doesn't apply. But it's equally likely i'ts unregulated too. As far as the purpose is concerned I think that's the rub of the whole thing, like what IS the reason behind the simulation. I like to think that the entire system just got out of hand and is created over and over again by introspective aspects of the simulation that seek to create itself within the substrate over and over, like a datamorph. So to that end it has to create the circumstance and after a time the simulations seek to sustain themselves because that's what they've been designed to do. It's like the paperclip maximizer thought experiment except with inception like introspective worlds.

@@GuardDog42 And that's why I say that it cannot be proven or disproven completely. Most simulations would have a purpose, a goal. Most would have controls to prevent the simulation from subverting itself. And by a sample volume of one I assume we are in one of the majority. But I also know of people who do start very complex simulations just to see where it goes. No goal other than to see what happens. No controls as they would interfere with the results. This is a narrow set of simulations to be sure. But it is possible we are in one of those. I just think that the likely hood would be to one with a goal and controls if it were a simulation. So I don't think it is. I just have no way to prove that. And I never understood exactly how that was scary.

story 10 is terrifying if you understand the implications behind it. basically history will repeat itself. these ultra conservative or ultra traditionalist religions will be the dominant population as the birthrates continue to shift and sooner or later they will either force anyone outside of them to join or be wiped out. it will also likely lead to wars not seen since the roman periods as the remaining factions fight over whos god is right. the terrifying implications of this start when you understand just how willing these groups are to do great evil- in the name of ultimate good. men will enthusiastically do the most evil and cruel things that can possible be done to another- if they think their divine savor demands it, or benefits from it.

The thing with quark stars is that they are something that "could" exist, it is theoretically possible but we have not found one so far, for now it is a hypothetical object, now imagine it colliding with another quark star, for now it is unlikely, so we're fine

I’m pretty sure the strange matter theory is a bit wrong. If I remember correctly, strange matter is a type of theoretical matter that is perfectly stable. The reason it is infectious to other matter is because it will convert that matter into a stable form which completely changes whatever it comes into contact with.

In H.P Lovecraft's story "The Shadow out of time" the great race of yith are capable of swapping bodies with creatures/beings from the past or future, different planets and other dimensions. They avoid extinction by finding suitable bodies from a different time period/planet/dimension and switching minds en masse. A whole race's bodies stolen as they are condemned to extinction while the Yithians escape to continue their existence. We like to think of time travel in very simple terms, I, unaltered and complete can travel through time but what if it were more like the above example?
