What if, instead of a crematorium, the Skyforge was always originally intended as a sacrificial altar, in an area sacred to the ones who made it, close to the sky in the landscape of that time, on which to burn enemies thoroughly into ash? This reasoning would be of many uses: first, they would get some kind of ash or bonemeal for use in magic and alchemy. Also, the bodies would be thoroughly destroyed, leaving not even bones for the victims’ souls to be tied to, perhaps increasing their better use in enchanting with soul gems (not that the game ever says a body left behind matters, but it can’t hurt), or the use of these sacred fires 🔥 might do the opposite and obliterate souls, converting them into magical energy, absorbed by the flames and passed into any weapons and armor forged with those fires. Btw I showed up at the end of the stream today. Apologies.
Ok, but THAT begs to question: What if the determining factor of the Skyforge enchantment has to do with the race of the body that's burnt on it? Like, we know that they have burned the remains of Nords on the Skyforge, right? They've probably been burning their dead on the Skyforge for a long time. Thus, we can aquire enhanced "Skyforge Steel," from Eorland Graymane. Ok, sure Bethesda, we'll say that makes sense. What would happen if they burned the remains of an orc instead? Would the enhancement become Skyforge Orcish Armor and Weapons? Or is it really just Eorland and his magic hands?
Nice theory, I don't think the sky forge absorbs the souls because we see kodlak in sovngarde, maybe absorb the ashes of the bodies burned in the forge, like balimund in riften feed their forge with fire salts Perhaps that is the reason why the snow elves feared the sky forge and didn't say anything about it, because as prisoners they were in, they feared that the Nors would throw them into the forge and this increase the power of the forge
Kodlak would have nothing to do with it. He wasn’t sacrificed, alive, on the Skyforge. His already dead corpse was just burned there. Fire will burn whatever is put on it. What I was referring to was more of a magical pact of a different, ancient people (not the Companions), who would have built the Skyforge. A pact that must include living sacrifices in order to procure the soul. Kodlak’s soul was long gone by the time they burned up his remains. I don’t think it just hangs around inside his corpse until some ritual can be performed for closure.
I think it was created by the elves, but not the altmer, the falmer. Not the falmer we know today, but the old snow elves in their original form (for those of you who played the Dawnguard DLC and met Gelebor, you know what I'm talking about). But this also ties in with Ysgramor, and why the city and hold is called 'Whiterun'. Because the snow, or WHITE elves were driven away by Ysgramor when he came and he discovered the forge, and the nords would say the elves ran away. There may be holes in this theory, and I don't know WHAT the snow elevs would've used the forge for but hey ho, that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY
At least the lack of other vital items such as a tanning rack and a smelter can be added in through mods. But, yeah, such for vanilla players on previous gen consoles and Switch players having to travel back to Warmaiden's to smelt or tan leather. Annoying.
Omg i played vanilla on my computer one time after years of hardcore mod usage and its like traveling to a third world country. This game is pretty meh out of the box
One problem with the sacrifice theory is that if you jump on the skyforge it wonth burn you like a normal forge, it was also stated that the elfs feard it, why woud they fear someting they created?
@@angeldust7876 the ordinator mod i think, allows you to sacrifice a bit of ur blood in the forge, well actually now that I write it any one forge, and turn it to a stronger version. that was maybe coincidence but dragonborn blood could have been a key to unlocking skyforge even more?
The Skyforge is a wasted opportunity. Hmm that seems like Skyrim in a nutshell. It is said to be a special forge but it's nothing special. The only benefit of using it over other forges is it can craft a few things the others can't. That would be awesome if these items weren't the same ones you can just find. Which delves into the problem of smithing as a whole. You only craft preset armor and weapons. You can only name then when enchanting. You can't personalize it in anyway. There's nothing unique about what you create. The enchanting mechanic falters on this as well. Since to get enchaments you have to disenchant an item to use on something else. There's no creativity on spamming. The Skyforge doesn't change that. A wasted opportunity.
Damn fr you hating on a game released in 2011? It was an amazing game with a huge, entertaining world. No denying that there's faults but if you got a problem then there's the modding community for that. All good vibes just play and modify the game to the experience you want 👌
If you're lucky/ financially solvent enough to have it on a PC that can run it... some of us don't have that option. I would like to, but how long would it take to save up the money for it? :(

Only one small detail, if the forge was used to burn bodies, then why is it when you stand in it, it doesn't burn? I mean it could just be lazy developers but Bethesda, at least when Skyrim was created, weren't all that lazy, I mean it was a rushed game hence the main story being short but all the tiny details point towards something larger.
You use it to make new Draugr weapons. Pretty obvious it was built by ancient Nords. The bird is the symbol of Kyne, so either the first humans in Tamriel built it, or Ysgramor is the first remembered human in Tamriel, but in actuality Atmorans were there sometime earlier (early Merethic). The Earth Bones included men, they were not just elves. That is why Mer superiority is bullshit.
My theory is it’s a daedric artifact or something similar. In the whispering door quest next to the ebony blade is the warning note to whoever discovers the blade, saying effectively “we tried to destroy this blade in the sky forge and it cooled the heat of the forge when put in it” this is a very interesting interaction and makes me think it is possibly the interaction of either two daedric artifacts or maybe some kind of artifact from one of the gods, maybe Talos. It isn’t unheard of for their to be artifacts from the gods, like the amulet of kings and akotosh. But who knows the elder scrolls is a weird game
The worst thing about Ancient Nord armour is you need Daedric (really high smithing perk) to improve it and it still manages to be statistically worse than the Wolf Armour set (requires steel and can be bought earlier). It's just bad.

Has to be the snow elves. They were on par with high elves magic and culture wise and they lived in Skyrim way before the Nords came because the climate suited them. A race that advanced could have easily made something like the sky forge. Then the War happened and Ysgramor wrecked them all with his companions and found it after killing all the snow elves in the area.
I love how everyone forgets how Veloth and the first Chimeri exiles were apparently guided to Morrowind by a HAWK, according to their mythos... And they were met at the border of then-icecap'd Morrowind by a woman who sounded like the wind or something, who tested Veloth's compassion and hatred for everything the Aldmer stood for (decadence, superiority and disloyalty) before melting the ice and allowing the Chimer to enter Morrowind. That sounds suspiciously like Kyne welcoming rebel-neighbors. If that forge is built by any elves, it's more likely to be the Chimer or the old Falmer than the Aldmer, Altmer or Ayleids, and the Chimer are more likely to have had Kyne's favor for some reason. (Maybe she just thought Veloth looked cute or reminded her of her husband, or something.)
Xavier Jo Stöcker maybe some giants made the skyforge but they’re still have the intelligence of a caveman so maybe some Khajiit moved to skyrim or lithmothits(an extinct beast race in black marsh that died because of the flu in black marsh)
What if the elves or alids used humans for the fighting and to give them good swords and armor by sacrificing one of the humans. Like a virgin in Aztec times. That in turn gave their fort soilders good weapons to fight on ground why the others used their magic in the fights. Used it for a good blessing and a better chance at winning.
Although crafting Skyforge steel is exclusive only to Eorlund, the player can upgrade existing Draugr weapons into their Nord Hero versions. Nord Hero weapons are Elven-tier in damage but lighter IIRC.
Want to know what the sky forge is? Useless comes to mind, when you can traverse the nearest ruin and pickup anything better off a few draugr then what you can possible get from up on that fancy blacksmith station
Maybe its proto Dwarven dating from before they became atheistic and moved underground given its in skyrim and the alyeds didn't live that far north it might predate both cultures. The snow elves are also a possibility
Wait.... Is it possible that the Skyforge is something similar to the White Gold Tower in Cyrodill and the Thalmors reason in Skyrim is to Destroy the Skyforge not the Throat of the World.
Noridc hero and ancient nord armor huh.... this is also the first time I've heard about this and I've played through the companions questline three times and I never knew that was an option

I wondered why I had no idea what the Sky Forge was until you mentioned its link to the Companions. 200 hours of Skyrim and I kept putting off the Companions' quests until beating the game and never playing again. Bummer.
Umm, here's a thought, what if instead if being built by the old elnofey, it was built by the wondering elnofey??? And that's why the native elves were afraid of it???
what if the skyforge dates to before the ancient ancient elvies to a race of bird people i call the scraven who were capable of dive bombing the elves and returning to the sky in seconds and the skyforge was their temple to the sky goddess who they believe gave them the power to fly and who first discovered how to make skyforge steel so they could wear armor blessed by their goddess very breath and elormain either foud or had the way to make skyforge steel passed down to him the question i ask you is were are the scraven now and if they are alive were did they go ow and since it states that elvies fear it and it doesn't mention any specific eleven race it scares all elvies and the scraven burn their dead in the forge/temple to return their soul to the goddess and in return for devotion kiens gives them flyt and skyforge steel the underforge was added by elvies or nords later possible
is the nordic armor from the skyforge the same that can be found on Solstheim? Because if so, I already have that set complete. Never knew that you can forge that stuff in Whiterun though, that's interesting.
In the skyforge you can craft the ancient nord armor but only after the companion questline is complete and you can find it anyway in some nordic ruin in the Rift and it isn't really good armor just better as iron and I think as good as steel but not sure anymore
@@Sol_Invictus_ I'm not saying you're wrong there probably is but there are also many times in the game saying it was dragonsreach that came first and it wouldn't be the first time dear old Bethesda messed up their own lore we all love them but sometimes they mess up a lillte
As far as I know it was never stated that Dragonsreach was built first. It's always Jorvaskr around the Skyforge and then Whiterun. Dragonsreach is supposedly made to hold Numinex but most likely there was another castle already (though that last bit is just my speculation but it would make sense)
