This video describes the Theory of Needs. Under this theory, individuals are motivated to work by three psychological needs: achievement, power, and motivation. Individuals who are primarily motivated by achievement like moderate risk/reward tasks. They like to work with other individuals motivated by achievement. Individuals who are primarily motivated by power tend to seek leadership positions. There are two types of power: institutional (social) and personal. Generally, individuals who are primarily motivated by institutional power tend to be more successful than those motivated by personal power. Individuals who are primarily motivated by affiliation like low risk/reward tasks and like socializing. Most individuals are motivated by a combination of all three motivators.

Dr. Grande I did find your reviews of more than one theory here helpful in both understanding how I got here today and on how to better plan my career path. The details in your presentation I had no problem relating to given the fact that last year I took an introductory course on how to be a receptionist. During the course I was impressed with the intelligence and perserverance one of the other students had in career planning for herself concerning her needs for affiliation, achievement and power. She was from a refugee family who had been through a lot through most of her growing up years. She was intelligent enough to realise her most important need for affiliation first upon arrival into a new nation while still learning more about the 2 languages she had to learn within the first year of arrival here while in her final year of highschool just prior to taking the course. She wanted a part time job as a receptionist in a place that wouldn't require her to learn too many new English words there while at the same time trying to achieve success in a post secondary program of study. I believe our nation is far behind the nation of India in how we encourage young people in general who have needs for affiliation, achievment and power wnough to carry on with starting their young families. In India now parents who coerce their children to work before the age of 21 instead of going to school and focusing on their studies can be charged by the governemtn as failing to provide the necessisties of life for their children. Maybe the influence of Saint Theresa there had something to do with the changes we see in India happening daily.

BOTH MY MOM AND DAD ARE LIKE SO FAR APART ON THIS ONE AND I FIND I CRAVE SOMEONE WHO IS THE OPPOSITE OF ME. MY DAD WAS A BUSINESSMAN / ACCOUNTANT AND MY MOM WAS A TEACHER/ SOCIAL WORKER. INTERESTING.❤

This was quite interesting, especially the thoughts about how to adapt feedback to different types of persons. That's an especially useful thing to know.
