The program supposedly starts today Aug 1 2024. Haven't seen anything explaining by example, steps to participate. Suppose that will come as ppl try it. As a small streamer its always been like moving a mountain to be discovered & build an audience. Keep hearing this change will help tremendously... @your tech coach, maybe you can do a RU-vid on how that is expected to work. I've seen complete garbage streams with large viewership and well produced streams with little to no viewership. You only have to look at tiktok to see more examples of this. As for the legality issue that twitch is trying to solve, their efforts are certainly admirable.

You'll want to test to see where the issue(s) are...it could be a lot of things, your internet connection, your computer, the way your stream is set up, etc.

Said DJ scrapes by and then after year one or two subsidized help, the DJ then gets hit by the full force of the non subsidized cost directly to their income from twitch. On top of that cost they pay for a license that allows then to play that music using a DJ program; and now have to pay for that music again. They also cannot make any clips to be used to promote their content in shorts that twitch just created at the top of app to get a taste of the streams content. Anyone attempting to do the DJing without having over 20 consistent subs will not be able to make any real money in the end. With just 20 subs if twitch ends up taking another 2% of the 50/50 affiliate split. @ just 20 subs = $48 take home (52% taken) minus the monthly DJ application cost = $38

There are different types of licensing agreements required for different use cases, so you'd need to check to see if your DJ program covers broadcast and live streaming, and if they include Twitch in that. Many don't. That's what the Twitch program is trying to address. You can check the details here: blog.twitch.tv/en/2024/06/06/introducing-the-twitch-dj-program/ and www.twitch.tv/dj-program/info

Live DJ streaming fizzled out back in 2022. The entire music category only averages 18K concurrent viewers monthly with 3 Lady DJ's that make up a combined 20% of that 18K viewership. This is just a program so that Twitch won't get sued by the record labels.
@YourTechCoach
@YourTechCoach Месяц назад
It may have fizzled for you, but thankfully there is a thriving and lively online DJ community out there! And while Twitch may be included any legal actions taken, the main target is the creator using popular music without some kind of licensing agreement in place. The catch-22 is that it isn't possible for each creator to get a licensing agreement. That's what this plan takes the first step in addressing. Is it perfect, of course not, but things have to get started, and they will hopefully expand and improve over time. That said, if it doesn't work for you, that's fine. It's an opt-in program, and no one has to join.

Hi, great video. Can you recommend some more shows to watch who have been doing this for a while or teach more about how to set up twitch with your controller and/or turntables? I'd like to See what the female DJs on twitch are playing females have a great sense and perspective for music. You Gotta Have Ladies on The Dance Floor at a lot of my kind of gigs.@@YourTechCoach

It was really only big because of covid (everyone was stuck inside, clubs and festivals were closed). Now you can actually go see the DJ in person.....

Online DJs were around before that, and continue to be another easy way to enjoy DJ's works. Together, live on-site and live streaming provide great ways to enjoy the craft!

I already bought and paid for the rights to use this music...
@YourTechCoach
@YourTechCoach Месяц назад
Maybe. But maybe not. First, in general, you don't "buy the rights," you licence them. And even when you do that, you have to licence them for the platform you are using them on. For examp,e the service I use, Epicdemic Sound, licences royalty free music for places like Facebook, RU-vid, Twitch, etc. But when you sign up, you have to register where you will be using the content. So, you'll want to check the fine print of whatever service you are using and make sure you have completed all the steps.

@YourTechCoach nah, this is pure corporate greed... I don't even DJ online, I playing the real world and this is just labels mad they haven't found a way to charge me extra and they know they can't charge more for the tracks themselves. They sell on places like beatport, they know what that track is for and they know that if they raised prices some other label/DJ will sell for less and they would make nothing. This is the literal definition of highway robbery.
@YourTechCoach
@YourTechCoach Месяц назад
@@EDDSkitzSounds like you have found a service that is providing you with the non-mainstream music you like for a monthly fee, and that's great, since it does get some money back to the original copyright owners for your in-person performance. Of course, that's different than what Twitch is offering for online DJs, due to the different content and broadcast structure.
@EDDSkitz
@EDDSkitz Месяц назад
@YourTechCoach while I do pay for beatport streaming, I'm talking about when I buy a track. Beatport is exclusively for DJ's, working professional DJ's at that. Some of them make millions a year to play music and they aren't getting charged any extra. It used to be when you bought a record to play for a crowd, that was free advertising for the artist/label for regular people to buy their music and pay to see that producer play live, but since regular people refuse to buy music these days they are trying to take their cut from those of us who made them popular in the first place, and it's wrong.
@YourTechCoach
@YourTechCoach Месяц назад
FWIW, it was never ok to use someone's content without a license or explicit permission unless it is public domain. Copyright law doesn't include a provision for anything called "free advertising." People do it, but it's not ok.
