Punk cannot be defined. Punk is not a monolith. Punk is not a look. Punk is not being told what to think. Punk is not about being accepted, it's about being rejected. Punk has been slowly debased by posers, and corrupted by commercialization and labels.
I think your message applies in world generally, Punk or not . "Don't be an asshole" indeed. The golden rule is : TREAT OTHERS, THE WAY YOU, YOURSELF, WANT TO BE TREATED...
Punk mentality died over 30 years ago, punk only seems to represent hard-left views now. Its not about talking, its about conforming. The safe space talk is absolutely nonsense, that mentality fits more with Hardcore than punk. Or it used too, unity in the scene is dead.
All I've ever heard from punk is that "you're not punk enough cause x" or whatever obtuse reason there is I came to the conclusion the whole thing is posers
hii! i'm from estonia and saw your live, i was the one who came up to you and told you that i loved the live and i completely agree with you. it's a big problem in the estonian scene that people don't really care abt politics, only the music and fashion, they say slurs, make racist jokes etc... and then when others in the scene have called them out on it they're like "it's just a joke, i'm not actually racist", like they don't understand the power of words and how "jokes" like this make the community feel like an unsafe space for minorities. i really don't understand people like that in the scene, punk isn't just about the music and the fashion, yes they're also a part of the subculture but politics have always been an integral part of the subculture too, like do y'all not listen to the lyrics of punk songs??? 😭 it's supposed to be a safe space and some ppl just don't get it

So NS punk is the only true punk while anarchists and libertarians are the antithesis of punk with their focus on individualism and by extension only furthers divide and conquer strategies? Sounds great but it's sadly not true. Things like NSHC is a small minority in punk.

I'm not sure if I identified as a punk that I'd want to associate with any NS/NSHC people, in fact, I'm certain I wouldn't. Most punks I know are cider drinking vegans who are generally decent, lovely folk.
@@dannybowden5296 I'm thinking punk is about aggression and revolting against the unjust status quo. Few things are more radically opposed to the current status quo than NS so it's a perfect match. I can't take any "normal" punk band seriously when they are pretending to be rebels but espouse pretty much identical values to those preached by the status quo. This purple haired woman was preaching state tolerance dogma which makes sense because she could literally not exist under any other system because she would simply not be tolerated. She needs to enforce the status quo where up is down, black is white, evil is good and vice is virtue, but she can't at the same time be a rebel, that's just absurd. This is all so fake it's viscerally repulsing.

Josh DIY sounds like the straight from google definition. I don’t know what Punk is now but when I was young it was a lifestyle. It wasn’t about safe space’s or tolerance. Punk back then was an anarchists lifestyle with us against them mentality with a chip on the shoulder saying we’re here deal with it. Freaks and misfits looking out for each other. That was over 30 years ago so I’m not surprised to hear it’s changed to fit Marxist mentality of today but as long as there’s still support for the voiceless then I’m happy. I was pretty active from 96-03 and then from 07 onwards (took a break due to depression) and my scene was pretty LGBT friendly, a ton of people were bisexual (people would accuse bi people of being "trendy"), apparently it wasn't always this way, one of my friends sold spicy lettuce out of his apartment and we were hanging out and this 40 year old guy came over who used to be an old 80's punk to buy it, and started telling this story about how he got his leather jacket through gay bashing, the time until he left was pretty awkward. Not saying people in my scene were never homophobic but a couple people who were were dealing with some issues themselves
To me punk is beyond politics, its anti-contrarian philosophical absurdism. although I agree with you on acceptance. Its also anti-conservative; but yiu are limiting punk with left like every other movement. Sadly the environmentalist movements I have been apart of label environmentalism=left which is sad. All of these revolutionary movements seem to be highjacked by left/liberals and anti-revolution.

Okay, this is coming from a guy. That's 41 who came from the punk rock scene way back in the late '90s and I can tell you. That, there was a code that is supposed to exist amongst all of us from the '80s '70s and a part of the '90s, but then there was a shift where people just became jerks and people didn't have that respect or loyalty or familyhood but the future of punk rock has changed so much where I walked away years ago after I had gotten married in 2011, I walked away from a lot of things just because things had gotten so ugly for a lot of years back in Southern California where I'm from and it just wasn't good. I don't know how to fix it. I don't know how to improve it. I would just say like what you like and be a fan but be a decent person the best you could be. Do your best to give everyone respect and go from there. As far as the scene goes, in my opinion, it's kind of dead. It's been dead for a long time and I'm friends with guys from the '70s '80s and early '90s so I know all the things from the beginning up until now and all the shifts and changes and where the history started and came from. I'm more than happy to talk to you about it anytime that you want if if you would like. I was still a lot of young punk rockers whenever I run into him. If you want to hear the history about some things from what I do know I'm more than happy to share and I'm a minority so I could come from a whole different place. I hung around the death rock goth scene, the punk rock scene, the psychobilly scene, The rockabilly scene, the new wave scene. I could tell you a lot of things about these so-called politics and how messed up people can really be, but in it that there can be some really cool people, but there's just a lot of nonsense going on to be honest with you So much so that I never got into newer bands. The newest band that was around at the time that I listened to was tiger army and early AFI and if you want to count the nekromatics but they had been around a while oh yeah and the koffin cats other than those guys, my favorite band is the dead boys. The Damned Bauhaus sisters of Mercy Hanoi rocks the Lords of the new church. The Ramones The clash tsol x the weirdos generation. X the screamers The avengers vice squad the addicts, the sub humans The cure, Joy division, Siouxsie and the banshees as well as a lot of other stuff. Just to let you know what scene or scenes I came from and like I said if you ever want to hear some history and my thoughts, being a veteran in that world for so many years it's been well over 25 years. I am interested, what I really want to know is where the politics stand exactly, where is punk in terms of the left wing to right wing scale? (or does it even fit the spectrum) what is the goal of punk, what killed the scene
@@Yeehaw0588 a lot of people in the punk rock scene got real cliquish and they lost their brother and sisterhood connection because punk rock was built on outcasts uniting together, sticking together, standing up for each other and enjoying some killer music. That was the big thing about punk rock. Whether if you like political punk, rock music or just straight up rocking out, we all were supposed to have each other's backs like that and what happened was that disappeared and once that disappeared it was the same as any other music scene that's out there that's majorly commercialized The punk rock spirit that United us all that called us out like London calling yelling across from London to every country in the world saying to stand up. Be proud of who you are. Be a punk rocker be strong, be brave. Love what you do and back up your fellow punk rockers. We lost it and when that happened that's the day punk rock died. And I'll add on to that by saying when Joey Ramone died, a part of the scene died when Stiv Bators died a part of us died when Joe Strummer died. A part of us died when Johnny thun asking ders died, a part of us died When Poly Styrene died a part of us died Even Darby crash played his part in that and when he died a lot of us died. It hasn't been the same not because they're gone but because of what they stood for in the leadership that they had and the music that they came up with a lot of it just didn't hold. My favorite band, The Damned is one of the few. That's one of the original from 76 that still holds it down and still has it and still promotes being united. Having a good time and being respectful. But I don't know everything but that's my two cents for being in it as long as I did .
I agree with you regarding not being an ɑsshole and treating people with respect, which is always important, however I think the experience many people have (at least in western Europe, US, etc. which is different than post-Soviet countries as you are talking about) the last few years that I have witnessed, is a growing sense of discontent and dislike of the non-stop messaging about minorities, LGBT, trans people etc. I don't know many people who genuinely have issues with such people, I certainly don't and wouldn't be friends with them, but, there are certainly plenty of people in the punk scene who are just tired of having this kind of stuff shoved down our throats all the time. Which makes sense given that here in the west this is coming from huge corporations and embraced by the same wealthy poseurs you are speaking about.
Thanks you for touching on this subject Kata 🦇 I do have a deep dissapointment for alt right people trying to be edgy, and ✨aesthethic✨to dig into our places they're not welcome. To be honest as a goth my biggest pain was that when I met other goths like 10 years ago, and they were terrible a*holes who rather played the intolerant edgelord to stay induvidualistic than build a community. At several countries especially in Eastern-Mid Europe people need safe spaces (like you mentioned) in Hungary it's getting extremely hard not to build up a wall between the elitistic, well-educated people, and everybody else. I left several "goth" and alternative groups because I met the same kind of terrible behaviour, like picking up on strangers AND BULLY THEM HOW THEY LOOK. Like everybody is 8 year old. They are the same bully kids, as they were. But here's the truth: as human rights are stigmatized and turned into politcs it won't be applying on the elits, it'll be affecting everyone, especially the average people, poor people, who need all help. Like a social web, and anyone feeling happier to ruin safety from those who need it - that person has no stay with anyone.
