My theory is that the 2019 movie was made to be a non-Christmas related movie that had nothing to do with the source material, but the studio needed to release it during the holidays so it was re-written to be Christmas related and just disregarded the original film.
Black Christmas 2019 is the worst. I’ll never forget seeing people leaving the theater. One by one. Someone actually screamed “why is this movie so bad?” and it made the audience laugh. Eventually, my friends and I left as well. It’s hard to think of a worse remake. Seeing Crystal worked up over it is awesome.
It could have literally been called anything. I don't know why they decided to call it Black Christmas, alot of things that involved christmas movies could have literally been swapped out for whatever the idiot pop emo cutter kids are listening to now and you would have never noticed. All 3 are crap, it just so happens that the original is kinda watchable and the 2006 movie is mildly watchable. The 2019 could have just been some tween college party "revenge" flick full of jump scares and the hip kewl tween music.
I'm so glad I didn't bother going to see it. I saw the trailer at the cinema and at that point, I'd started to really appreciate the original. But the trailer gave away too much, like who the killer is and I didn't bother. And after I heard how bad it was, I was so glad I never watched it. I've never asked for my money back from a film, but I honestly think I would have if I went to see it.. Also I refuse to call it a remake. It's not a remake. It's title theft.
I screamed that myself earlier today not even halfway through and then I just turned it off! It's pretty rare that there is a movie so bad and infuriating that I can't finish the it! I hate it so much.
Never even knew Blumhouse made a Black Christmas remake. I guess you three did the suffering for me. I enjoyed this episode and dearly missed Crystal and Johanna!
I will watch the 2006 remake no problem. I did NOT finish the 2019 remake because I thought it was so bad, so I had NO idea until now that it was magic-related.
Even Glen Morgan, Wendy, and Ms. Lewton couldn't make me enjoy the 2006 version, and I never even BOTHERED with 2019. BUT the ORIGINAL...R.I.P. Bob Clark and John Saxon!! I LOVE Lt. Fuller the most but like all of the characters, the look and music and atmosphere, and how Billy is SO perfect as literally just some random guy who climbs into an attic, WALKS AROUND IN THE HOUSE WITH NOBODY SEEING HIM, and makes all kinds of noise that people hear but nobody investigates:) And we never find out who he even IS or where he belongs! I WISH that John Carpenter had made 'Halloween' as a sequel because everything Michael does in the first movie makes perfect sense if it's Billy! He's just INSANE, he WOULD go from obscene calls and talking to himself and freaking out to being completely silent, trailing people, and standing in the dark just watching;) It's too bad it didn't work out that way with Lt. Fuller looking for him, Dr. Loomis still being his doctor who warned the hospital not to release him because he was just showing them what they wanted to see, and Fuller having married Jess and raised her baby to protect them:) PLUS, I like that she seems as if she once babysat Laurie Strode and is a final girl who's PREGNANT and LIVES.
@@Crystalquin 😂😂😂 you respond to EVERY comment I make about you, and you always remember to get butthurt, but I'm not memorable. Okay girl 👍🏿 How about you remember to stop cutting everyone off to make asinine points no one cares about?
I was so glad that Crystal, Johanna, and Tony tore Black Christmas 2019 a new one because it has got to be the WORST HORROR REMAKE EVER!! It's an insult to my favorite slasher, the original 1974 Black Christmas and it makes the 2006 remake look almost like a great send up by comparison.
I prefer the 2006 version. The gore, dark humor, and shlock plot were great. Plus, Andrea Martin and Michelle Trachtenberg were great. The original is good, but the 2019 is ultimate cringe.
Crystal, before Bob Clark died, he was apparently planning to remake his early horror film Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. So, yes, he was intending to "fix some shit".
Now this is an awesome Christmas gift. Tony, Crystal, and Johanna talking about the Black Christmas movies. And Crystal's "annoyed" reactions are why I like her.
It's fine, until she starts cutting everyone off to make points no one asked or cared about. It's rude, and the person usually never gets back to what they were gonna say, bc she rambles on so long lmao
@@Zacman1123 Tbh I dont notice it as much from him, but it IS his show lol & imo, the things crystal interrupts to say aren't important as opposed to tony. Tbf, Johanna does it to Tony alllllll the time, but that's her whole shtick, being mean to him. So I get it.
Holy F*kc the last part of this episode is insane. Ive never seen any reviewer hating anything this passionately. Tremendous episode, definitely one of my favorites. Crystal & Johanna always make the show better. I never even saw the latest version because it just looked dumb. Any slasher movie thats PG-13 is not worth my money. Like buying a rap cd at a Walmart.
Two days I knew mainstream online reviews had become compromised. When The Last Jedi came out, and when Bloody-Disgusting gave Black Christmas 2019 a positive review.
Never saw any of these movies but I've heard the most recent remake is pretty stupid and cringe. I can't wait to hear what y'all think about them! Also I'm very happy that we get to see Johanna and Crystal at Hack the Movies video!!!
Kinda shocked they didn’t talk about the clear age difference between the bother/father and daughter/sister who looked waaaaaay older, also who apparently was played by a man.
I for one would love a review of 2001, not as many people cover it as you’d think and I’d enjoy your opinion on it Tony. Ps Crystal for some reason was more attractive in this episode, idk what she did differently
BC 2019 is not only the worst Black Christmas movie BY FAR, but it may legitimately be the worst horror movie PERIOD. I've seen an insane amount of horror movies and I can't think of a single one that I wouldn't watch over BC 2019.
I've never actually met/seen anyone who liked Blumhouse's Black Christmas before....and it somehow doesn't surprise me that Crystal would be that first person LMAO
The original will always be a favourite of mine with it's subtle nuance and suspenseful holiday lit atmosphere, the scene of Jess being confronted by the killer behind the door sent chills up and down my spine the first time I saw it and cemented it as an annual holiday watch in my household. And as terrible as they both were, I'd honestly say the 2019 version is just slightly better than the 2006 version, I agree it's way too heavy handed with it's message and values but at least it wasn't a Weinstein pissing contest to see how much they could shit all over the originals actual terror in favour of making it just another gore filled remake like everything else that was coming out at the time, for it's originality alone the 2019 version stomps the 2006 version to ground so hard the eyes came flying out of it's skull (ironically enough).
I haven't seen the original yet. I actually forgot that I'd seen 2006, but I will never forget 2019. It is so hell-bent on beating the audience over the head with its message. I'm honestly glad I saw it on HBO because while I technically paid to see this with my HBO subscription, it was something I was already paying for anyway, so in a way I didn't really pay to see this, if that makes sense. Overall I don't think there's any salvaging this movie, but the bust was the biggest fucking copout. Your villains should be villains. If anything, by making them victims in their own right, they dilute the message the movie is trying to convey. Yes, we do live in a society where men do not have a healthy relationship with sex because their value is tied to it, and that is similar to brainwashing, but men still have the agency to control themselves. By making them brainwashed to the point where it forces them to do things they normally wouldn't, it takes away their culpability. Furthermore the existence of the bust calls into question the actions of the main characters in this story. Knowing full well these men are brainwashed, they still don't see a problem with murdering them, instead of trying to break the hold that it has over them. We know the hold can be broken because they were able to save that one guy whom the main character kind of liked.
The cutout story happened to me except I hadn’t been home my dad got it for me as a present I went to my buddies to go to a movie & came home to find a shadow in the corner of my room I freaked out. The movie was opening night of The Blair Witch Project
Great video Tony(from Hack the Movies)! The first one is iconic and unmatched imho, but i gladly hear about the other ones. EDIT : Crystal and Johanna are lovely as always
I watch Black Christmas (1974) every Christmas Eve, usually before I go to bed. The mood it sets is so perfect, it’s a fun tradition that I enjoy every year so much.
Are they not going to mention Bob Clark's role (uncredited) directing Blonde and Blonder (2008)? They're probably saving that fun fact for the Blonde & Blonder coverage episode. They can't overlook that classic Pamela Anderson and Denise Richards film forever. Perhaps they'll do a Dean Anderson filmography with Strike a Pose (1993), Savage Land (1994), and Dream Team (1999). It'll be fun to see them try to keep that discussion family friendly.
I'm glad you cleared that up because I clearly remember all of the TV spots for Black Xmas 2K6 that weren't in my unrated copy (over the top), which I'm pretty sure just had more incest and back cookies.
So I totally misread the meaning of the title of this video when I first saw the thumbnail. I legit thought you were going to review A Madea Christmas. Does that make me a bad person?
I vaguely remember hearing about the second "remake" in 2019, but totally forgot about it. I saw the 2006 version in theaters and did not like it. Sounds like the next isn't worth me catching up on.
You should do a review of Violent Night. It was in theaters on Christmas, and is so much better than you could ever imagine. And it literally is Die Hard but its a christmas movie. I can see your reaction already, it will be pure gold.
Next year for Christmas can you review the Silent Night Deadly Night movies (there's five of them and a remake), I'd also love to see you review some Japanese movies like Dead Sushi, Tokyo Gore Police, Machine Girl, or Strega (parody of Power Rangers but it's VERY raunchy), or maybe review the Maniac Cop movies.
This was the best episode ever! Crystal and Johanna's rage reminded me of how I felt after watching The Last Jedi 😂 That was the only movie that legitimately made me mad!
I must have been 5 or 6 when I watched the original Black Christmas. I am so grateful my parents let me rent R rated horror movies when I was a little kid allowing me to watch them unsupervised.
Amusingly I listened to Movie Dumpsters 'Black Christmas (1974)' episode afterwards and Joe holds the 2019 film in a much higher regard, so it would have been interesting to see him defend himself like Crystal does 2006.
The Original Black Christmas was a classic. The Black Christmas (2006) was little okay except bily look like reject character from Sin City villain and a random guy in the Simpsons character. Black Christmas (2019).... It's suck very very bad, just a bunch of frat boys in a cult.
Both the remakes kind of suck just for different reasons lol. Also I wouldn’t call psycho or Texas chainsaw a slasher black Christmas definitely deserves the title of first slasher and lead to Halloween .
All I gotta say Famous Tony from HTM If you put Crystal on the "2001 " Review People will watch it 🤣 If there's ever a movie your not sold on us watching a review of....add crystal lol
I got no idea what they're talking about this time, the video is playing in the background while set up my PS1 Classic Mini adding more games while i hear everyone yelling and screaming lol... but sounds so fun tho.
@@HackTheMovies Sometmes i do listen to the show fully, but sometimes i just let your videos play in the background while i do other stuff. i just like listening to you guys chatting and laughing.
As someone who really appreciates the original, I can't wait to see you rip the 2019 movie who had one of the worst characters in a "slasher" and literal toxic masculinity as a plot device
