I bought one of his attack drop picks after you did a review of those and it's one of my favorite picks now. if I had the money and space for another instrument I'd definitely consider one of his guitars too, but maybe i can scrounge up enough cash for a set of those deathbuckers, i really enjoyed the tone in the first playing segment.

@@ChainsawChristmashis guitars start at 4200 CHF. To say that there's no monetary compensation for the video is a bit rich when you're given a one of a kind instrument worth more than the average Monthly salary where you live. It's just strange to draw attention to not accepting money for reviews when someone gives you an extremely expensive bespoke instrument as though it somehow implies any scrap of impartiality.

I love the design aesthetic on that guitar. I don't think I've ever come across an instrument that was dead perfect to me. Until that guitar. Granted I've never played it, touched it or seen it with my own eyes (which is a form of touch. really!) but as far as I can tell every element of it has been carefully considered and I wouldn't change it. That doesn't sound like a big deal but I buy & sell tons of instruments and have for just about the last 25 years, so the number of instruments (guitars & basses of every imaginable origin & configuration, state of repair, value, etc.) hmmm... I don't know precisely but we're talking Wilt Chamberlin numbers here.... I doubt that i've had hands on many valued over $5k USD at the time I owned them anyways... perhaps 10-20 in that range and maybe that makes the difference because once you get to like Custom Shop or Master Built level I'm likely not going to be making choices that 'improve' an instrument in any tangible way, it'd only be changing something to better meet my personal preferences. but anyways, for me & my aesthetic that guitar is about as perfect as possible. Thanks for sharing it and of course, much gratitude to Patrick for having the refined taste, the vision and the ability to execute to bring something so perfect from the mental realm into physical existence. Amazing work!! If only I could afford to have him build one for me. I'll keep on dreaming... or even better have a go at creating something similar myself!

there was a semi short lived brand of guitars called Langcaster from New Zealand made from swamp Kauri, a big type of tree that was carbon dated to have grown on the planet 35000 years ago before being buried in swamps to be dug up after 35000 years, no jokes, the wood is incredible and super heavy . ive played a couple and have some bits of the swamp kauri with certificates of its age .

I get the aesthetic appeal of the nut, but the slots are too deep. The top should have been sanded down more so the strings aren't buried in the plastic to create less opportunity for hangup.

Glad to see that the old, dry and brittle wood is just the top. I would imagine that a guitar built only with that wood would resonate very poorly in the mids and lows. But it looks really cool as a top. I see that the rest of the guitar is mahogany, which is nice.

That black glow in the dark material is pretty cool. I've known of Hufschmid for years now. I'm sure they are great guitars, but many times they can be a bit underwhelming for such expensive guitars. This paricular isn't underwhelming though. And there isn't that much custom options to customize the builds. Like last time I checked he only makes them out of mahogany and not many other wood options for other parts of the guitar either. Most of the time it's also just a plain mahogany body, very premium looking mahogany but no flames or such. But he has a theme and identity in his builds, which I do appreciate and I've heard nothing but great things about his guitars but they can be a little monotone in appearance.

That;s a COOL looking guitar. Actually reminds me of the Iceman. I think that it would have been cool to have the pickups rear mounted. So the only hole for them would be for the bodies, since wooden bezels would be difficult and fragile to make. And just a small chamfer or partial round over to break the edge od the cavity. Just my thoughts. Feel free to pass these ideas on to the maker.

Very nice instrument. The technical challenge posed by marrying the mahogany body with the pine top is not to be underestimated.
@peachmelba1000
@peachmelba1000 9 месяцев назад
@skratchrapture The pine is soft as woods go. It can be dented very easily. Notice that the Hufschmid's top perimeter is not rounded over. The square corner that flows around the top is where dents will most likely occur. It could be that the builder used a liquid wood hardener to mitigate this. I would recommend it. If you notice as well how flush each material is with each other (meaning where the mahogany and pine meet), it seems likely he did. Normally when two joined materials of highly differing hardnesses are machined in tandem, the softer material will deform, compromising the flushness of the material to material transition. He did an incredible job with it, however he did it.

Just a nitpicking technical point here: Is it really accurate to say "I didn't get paid for this video," when he gave you a $3K+ guitar?
@KDH
@KDH 9 месяцев назад
I stated very clearly and accurately that I’m not being paid “any money” And I’m not. I’m absolutely gaining something in way of the gear I get to keep and that’s why it’s fully disclosed. I state all this because there is a big difference in being paid money to do a review and just keeping the product after a review. With the latter there is no incentive to overlook issues because the only thing you stand to gain is a product with issues. If I was being paid money then I’d stand to gain a financial incentive which this is not because I don’t resell the gear I receive. Never have.
