Is he playing all of these solos? I'm trying to compare with Eleven's "hit" song "Reach Out" to find out. But I think that's him! Ace guitarist. I guess considering when Hillel left for RHCP they didn't replace him and Alain absolutely was playing lead guitar, he must've been.
He's terrible (and goofy-looking as hell), just like this band. Eleven were the worst alt-rock band of the 90's. The only good things about this band were Hillel and Irons.
If you ever had a band you how playing with the same crew influences the music you make. Hillel is the reason why the Chili Peppers ever existed. Thanks Hillel 🙏🏼
I still have all three of the original What Is This? releases on vinyl. I remember seeing "Mind My Still Have I" on MTV one day in 1984 and thinking the band's name was totally apt. What the hell is this? I went right out to the record store and bought "Squeezed". Incredible music.
I love this song particularly because it sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers (Hillel) and Eleven (Alain) at the same time and as usual Alain rips as a guitar soloist.
Give a shout out to Alain. He too, was an awesome guitar player. When they were down to a trio, he would play two parts at the same time. They were great live unfortunately not much following back then. Saw them @ Berkelely Square with only 10 people there.
I genuinely wonder why he/Eleven never got much love from the Peppers. It could have helped the band tremendously to have Eleven tour with them, I imagine. Even if the music genre was not the same. In Anthony's book he seemed a bit derogatory towards Alain. Probably had something to do with it.
I remember seeing these guys a few times and they were really good. They had a lot of buzz and put out an album or EP, but some kind of musical chairs happened with the Chili Peppers rising out of the ashes and What is This disappearing.
That’s the Shit !!!!! First time I heard had to have . These are days is my favorite Rick song . Guitar work impeccable !!!!!! ✌🏾 Yours truly Chaddy 1pus
Ha-ha! You don't "find" What Is This just from merely looking for them in the shops. I happened across a WIT vinyl in a shop once when I wasn't actually looking for it, but, mind you, that was back during the Clinton years. You'll most likely have to hit up ebay.
