Every year, on a Saturday in June, the Monarch of the United Kingdom celebrates their official birthday with a big military parade, a 41-gun salute, and an RAF flypast by the Red Arrows over Buckingham Palace.
But why does the British Sovereign always celebrate their birthday in June?
How old is the ceremony of Trooping the Colour, and why did it begin in the first place?
We take a deep dive into the loudest, most colourful annual tradition in the Royal calendar.

Thank you for showing us what is going on during the ceremony. I so enjoy knowing the history of Great Britain. We don’t get the details in our Canadian schools unless that is what one chooses to study. The kids on the balcony is my favourite part,,I’d forgotten about William as a youngster with his cousins. @@elaifa-pt6nc Stop using another historical figure who was a consort turned monarch who OVERTHREW her own husband and whose legacy earned her that title on another woman with the same name who is only a consort and has not earned that title and will NEVER overthrow her husband when he is King. It is ridiculous, and The Princess of Wales has her own legacy. Currently she ranks beneath our Queen who is Camilla but will one day hold that title when HER HUSBAND is King. These kinds of titles normally go to monarchs, not their consorts because the consort is a supporting role, not a leading one, FFS. That is why Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, Queen Mary, and Queen Alexandra, among their other predecessors, do not carry titles like that. They were consorts, NOT monarchs like Catherine The Great, Empress of Russia.

R.I.P EIIR. Charles's Beloved Mother. 70 Years Reign on the Throne of The UK and The Commonwealth 1952-2022. Elizabeth 1926-2022. Final resting place at Windsor Castle, down in the Valut of St George's Chapel.

We all are waiting to see the Princess of Wales, her first little step back. But don t forget After chemo, the body's defences are low, so it is advisable not to meet many people where she could become infected. That's why she needs time to come back, the body first has to become resistant again

For Foot Guard Colour can be Trooped by 10 Company. Grenadier Guards 1st Battalion or Nijmegen Company Coldstream Guards 1st Battalion or Number 7 Company Scot Guards 1st Battalion or F Company Irish Guards 1st Battalion, Number 9 or Number 12 Welsh Guards 1st Battalion

17 Troop have been Canceled. 1905 and 06 for Bad Weather, 1909 for Bad Weather, 1910 for Court Mourning, 1915 to 18 for the WWI, 1926 for the General Strike, 1940 to 46 for WWII, 1948 for Bad Weather and 1955 Rail Strike. 2020 and 2021 were at Windsor Castle due to Covid.

I’m from the United States. Thank you for explaining all this. It’s wonderful and I would not have know the meaning.I watch London City Walks U Tube, love learning from him. Your rich history is amazing to watch. I only don’t like how hot the material is on the guards till the point of passing out, it’s abuse on them. when pre-existing songs were adopted long ago into the ceremony were they old tunes even then? or were they catchy pop songs at the time and become traditional over time? might we one day see a beatles song added to the tradition? or lady gaga? 🙂 i wonder if horses get a thrill when they get to march in a mass of other horses...or do they not care one way or the other... i suppose in all these years no one's ever failed inspection... that would be so awkward

Oh yeah! Can you imagine how Police-less, the 17th & 18th Centuries were back then?! No Constabulary either. During the Golden Age of Highwaymen & Pirates. People had to try save themselves from dangers. Very Hard & Difficult Centuries Ago.

The whole point of the ceremony, the actual trooping of the Colour through the ranks, is omitted from this item. A great pity as this is otrherwise a good presentation.
