When explaining about web3's potential red flags, the video has portrayed that its underlying blockchain technology and decentralization nature might "discourage innovation." I still didn't get why. Is it because of low incentives for innovation on web3?
I believe that this video aims to educate people about web3 while also trying to raise fear so that people don't use it. Blockchain and decentralization promote innovation because they limit government control, preventing them from imposing taxes. The absence of taxes can lead to more freedom, fostering greater innovation.
@@noodler911 Decentralization and distributed systems are great for democratization but in so doing, they also remove a lot of the financial incentives that currently drive innovation and competition. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing but it's not clear what would drive new innovation without the existing captialistic market pressures created by centralized markets.
Centralization is a hell of a drug. I felt like this explanation had a negative bias regarding Web3. While it's essential to discuss potential roadblocks, highlighting the democratizing potential of Web3 is as equally important. Innovation often comes with challenges, and it's essential to strike a balance between discussing risks and showcasing the benefits of new concepts like Web3 to provide a more well-rounded perspective. Yet this one felt like we should not have built cars because they can kill.

From the lowest to the Highest. The four lower worlds of Hell, Hunger (greed), Animality (stupidity), Anger, then Humanity, Heaven, Learning, Realization, and finally the higher worlds of Bodhisattva, Buddhahood. Please note, this is a commentary only. I am having a dialogue with myself. You, the reader, is my Secret Sharer- ala Joseph Conrad. In this dialogue with myself, I allowed my imagination to run insanely wild) Question: What is the importance of using the immutable 10 Worlds of Desires or Life-conditions in the age of Artificial Intelligence? From empirical data (3000 years minimum) there are three groups of technology. Expedient, Existential and Interstellar Technology. And in that ascending order too. To a certain extent, each contain the other two. What differs is the degree of their impact to human existence. Please allow me to explain. The first group to emerge is Expedient Technology. Man needs externals (the environment) to survive and to thrive. E.g Air, water, food, shelter, etc. Man also needs externals to be more productive. E.g., use of fire and fuel, from stone to steel tools, trains, airplanes, microchips, desktops, laptops, etc. Expedient technology allows us to utilize the external environment to its fullest to serve our needs. To understand better the 2nd Group of Tech- Existential- Let’s fast forward to the third group- Interstellar. This was indicated in the 6 Difficult and 9 Easy Acts doctrine. E.g., One of the 9 Easy Acts is (3) to kick a major world system into a different quarter with one’s toe. This is gravity, electro-magnetic control on a monumental scale. Imagine, moving an entire solar system to one quarter of the universe. If a civilization attains this level, well, it can destroy meteor (smaller than a solar system) or change its orbit and make it veer from hitting Earth. Civilizations (intra or extra-terrestial) who have reached the Interstellar tech level, must have overcome the species extinction pull of the 2nd group of technology. Their citizens must have attained an average 10,000-year lifespans (source: 28 chapters Lotus Sutra). Heck, with a 10,000-year lifespan, our scientific know-how can probably reach a level where suns, are mere gas tanks (as in gas stations) scattered all over the cosmos. Any ordinary planetary vehicle, low on fuel, can approach any sun, pulls out a hose, sticks it into that sun’s surface and once fully recharged, disconnects, and continue its journey. Of course, this is still sci-fi. But if one can imagine it, one can make it. Even more advanced, is the use of dark matter and dark energy as fuel. Earth, as a living entity (please kindly indulge me), probably breathes dark energy and matter using the atmosphere as its gills or nose. Like what fishes do with their gills with water. Like what land-based species do using their noses and lungs with air. With a 10,000-year lifespan, one has all the time one needs to acquire knowledge that could reverse-engineer any planetary mechanism. One can convert planets or moons as vehicles. Use that dark matter and energy as fuel for the moon or planet for interstellar journeys. Moving on, the 2nd group of technology is termed- Existential. It can efficiently kill entire species (humankind included) or planetary environments that sustains all non-human life. Evidence? Again, I am talking to myself and letting my sci-fi imagination run wild. At some point we’ll be able to make customized gigantic pyramids. As an energy generator or otherwise, we will reach that level. Others did, why can’t we? Our tech will attain a level where we can liquify sand, granite, or marble, meteor materials etc; elevate it thousands of feet above ground, like a controlled tornado, then fit them into and resolidify these semi-liquid and controlled flying sand, granite, marble into a solid block to form pyramids. One could also argue, a more primitive version of that is to use electromagnetism or something more potent. Bullet trains haul people on boxcars using the science of same poles detract to elevate the boxcars. Modify that “same-poles-detract” set-up into a conveyor hauling 50ton factory made resolidified sand, granite, blocks from production floor to the pyramid site and pyramid top. Not efficient, but that’s a wild start, prior to pouring entire Giza-size pyramids in one go using one gigantic mold (similar to pouring concrete on molds for building columns today). The evidence is in Egypt. Weaponized, the use of electro-magnetism could probably cloak a continent like Antarctica, not with solid sand blocks but with ice. Or perhaps, they tilted a little bit…. Earth’s axis? Hmmm…. if one can move an entire major world system with one’s toe, why can’t one tilt a planet’s axis to cover with ice a continent? Science fiction for now, but yeah, for me, it’s possible. And this qualifies as weaponized Existential Technology. In the wrong hearts, hands, or algorithm, humankind does not stand a chance. Existential technology emerges at the peak of Expedient Technology’s utility. It is the crossroad between the extinction of an entire specie or the ascent of that specie into the interstellar stage. Why is this black-mirror science fiction discussion relevant? We’ve finally entered the Existential Technology. Again. Artificial intelligence finally emerged. We are in the age of AI. Of course, it is still in its infancy stage. But it is here, and from hereon it will only accelerate its existential and interstellar competencies. Humanity, our particular batch or generation of humanity, is now at this crossroad again. Respectfully, we’ve descended to the bottom (stone age) from a previous civilizational peak. From the bottom (stone age), ascended again to another peak (today’s existential Artificial Intelligence age). Questions: Were we, in the stone-age bottom, from the perspective of survival, better than where we are now (AI age)? Is the reset (descent,ascent,descent) avoidable or inevitable? What were the factors of failure or success? Where there other batches of humankind or humanoids that succeeded and stayed interstellar? I think there were. Else, there’ll be no extra terrestials or returnee-terrestials. Anyhow, now that we’re here in this crossroad again, a hakuna matata attitude especially of the powers that be, and disunited as we are as a specie, our chances of sliding down to the bottom (stone-age) again is high. Others did. How else could we explain inferior stone-block made pyramids? But united, as exemplified in fighting the pandemic, and before that, closing the atmosphere’s “north pole hole”, our chances of collectively exiting “existential” and entering “inter-stellar” improves exponentially. I think the key to that collective migration (from existential to interstellar) is going back to the fundamentals. While the existential threats come from ten directions (all over), their nature and source are one and the same. What is the say of the immutable principle of the Ten (10) Worlds, or Lotus Sutra on this? AI, using data, arrives at conclusions and acts on it. That is its strength and weakness. The trajectory of humanity, ascent or descent, and as the creator of AI, is determined by our collective life-condition and not by AI. This is our strength and weakness. Just not too.. eh, "stable". Here are a few examples that are a no go. If copyright, an NFT has no ownership other than on the blockchain. The piece could easily be copied and sold. No metadata to say otherwise. If currency, even for stable tokens/coins.. You are buying into a stock as a currency. A stock which rises and falls. Which crashes worse than basic currency. So, $5k today but maybe it's $10 tomorrow. The user base, not all but most; 90%. This lump some are scamming more people with these technologies. Even owners/CEO's of these techs are stealing from each other left and right. It really doesn't paint a bright future for decentralized/token based future of the web.

It is not the piecemeal merchandizing of information; it is to enable the acquisition of the methods for learning on one's own; it is the provision of keys to unlock the vault of knowledge. Rather than encouraging students to appropriate the intellectual treasures uncovered by others, we should enable them to undertake on their own the process of discovery and invention. [1934]8- First Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi The Doctrine of the 10 Worlds in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. (VUCA & Human Existence and Happiness) Change is constant. Our world is in constant change. For purposes of common ground, let us use the concept of VUCA (see HBR 2014Feb Article- What VUCA really means for you). This constant change in our external world spawns VUCA. It stands for (V) volatility, (U) uncertainty, (C) chaotic, (A) ambiguity. A VUCA situation presents challenges. Imagine earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, floods, planet-killer meteors, specie extinctions, etc. Questions: Was the world in VUCA before humans emerge? Yes. Was the world in VUCA when and after humans emerged? Yes. Will the world still be in VUCA after humans are gone? Yes. Our world is in constant change. VUCA. It is what it is, without or with human beings. It is what it is. Question: Can true happiness be attained in spite of this permanent VUCA? Yes. For example, In the evil age called Mappo in Buddhism, Nichiren Daishonin (800 years ago), exiled in the VUCA conditions of severe winter in Sado, medieval Japan, still declared: “I, Nichiren, am the richest man in all of present-day Japan. I have dedicated my life to the Lotus Sutra, and my name will be handed down in ages to come" (Gosho: Opening of the Eyes, The Major Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 2, p. 151). What a lofty spirit, amidst life-threatening conditions! Even Sakyamuni, who attained enlightenment 3 millenia ago, also described the VUCA period of the evil age of Mappo: “Since hatred and jealousy toward this sutra abound even when the thus come one [Shakyamuni Buddha] is in the world, how much more will this be so after his passing?” (Teacher of the Law 10th Chapter Lotus Sutra, LSOC, 203). Sakyamuni’s life and those of his disciples were also threatened by his cousin Devadatta. A VUCA situation. Devadatta unceasingly sought devilishly creative ways to kill the Buddha and his disciples. E.g. driving wild elephants to trample them, or rolling boulders to crush Sakyamuni and his followers. Yet this VUCA situation did not prevent Sakyamuni nor his disciples from attaining true happiness. Therefore, while the external world is in VUCA, an ordinary human being can still enjoy true happiness. But how about human suffering? Can human suffering still emerge, even if the external environment is not VUCA anymore? Wealth and power can do wonders in creating stability, certainty, simplicity and clarity. The opposite of VUCA. And yet, I was intrigued by a quote from the great Frenchman Victor Hugo (1805-1885) that was shared to me. It reads: “The life of even the most prosperous man is always in reality more sad than gay.” It seems that status and appearances can veil one’s true life condition. Allow me to reshare some insights taken from a book, a biography of Joseph Stalin. Endowed with enormous power and wealth. It was said that whenever the Soviet met someone who’s better than him, Stalin is filled with jealousy, envy, and hatred towards that person. The author describes it: “while maintaining an air of calm, he (Stalin) was panic-stricken”…. “on the outside he wore the impression of a hard smile, while inside he was full of foreboding, carrying within himself his own little hell.” (Translated from French: Victor Serge, Portrait de Staline [Paris Editions] Bernard Grasset,1940 p180-83). Let me repeat that again- “his own little hell”. On the other hand, President Nelson Mandela (South Africa) spent two decades and 7 years, or 10,000 days in prison, in what can only be described as extremely hellish conditions. “An hour felt like a year,” he was quoted to have described those times. And yet, he persevered, and upon his released, instead of exacting revenge, he unified his divided nation, and strove to create a country that enjoys peace and prosperity. What a lofty spirit! A spirit, a heart unbowed by the external VUCA. Thus from those examples, it is not the external environment that really matters with regards to the awakening of true human happiness or incessant suffering. It is what is within, what is in one’s “heart”, that matters. Nichiren Daishonin said: “First of all, as to the question of where exactly hell and the Buddha exist, one sutra states that hell exists underground and another sutra says that the Buddha is in the west. However, closer examination reveals that both exist in our five-foot body. The reason I think so is that hell is in the heart of a man who inwardly despises his father and disregards his mother”… (Major Writings Vol1,p271). Happiness and suffering is within. It is a matter of the heart. Going back, human happiness and suffering are life-conditions. Philosophically, are these life-conditions externally bestowed, or are we innately endowed with them? I belong to the “endowed” school of thought. True happiness and incessant suffering is a matter of our “heart”. Review: I am very pleased to realize that what took me years of study, we’ve managed to squeeze the essence of it in just a few posts. Starting in Prof. Bill Gates HBR interview, thru Prof Hayes (Raytheon) interview, we have tasted the essence of the Theoretical Teaching of the Lotus Sutra in a somewhat roundabout way. And finally came knocking at the door of the doctrine of the 10 worlds or the doctrine of the 10 conditions of life. This doctrine is found in the Expedient Chapter (2nd Chapter of the Lotus Sutra). This doctrine is foundational. The 2nd chapter is also the most important of the Theoretical Teachings (chapters 1-14) of the 24 chapter Lotus Sutra. And the Lotus Sutra (whether it is the 24 chapter LS, the 24 characters LS, or the highest of all- the 7 character Lotus Sutra) is the highest of all Buddha’s teachings. It appears, it was not a worst idea after all. I am deeply grateful for all your support and understanding.
