On the higher ranks especially, it would be nice to have a bit more spread between the middle and lower ones, right now there are a lot of weightless ranks !
Except the math straight up dictates the ranks are indeed inflated since you don't need to actually out win your competition by a % until Blue ranks where you had to do that from the very beginning of Tekken 7. Math isn't an opinion. Consistency is removed as a metric in T8 until very late in the ranking curve valuing play time and spamming many matches as possible with basic high value coin flips rather than outright outplaying your opponent with stable consistent gameplay.
People don't realise it's like this on "purpose" they don't want rank to be "too punishing" gamers want to feel rewarded. If 80% are stuck in red ranks they'll quit the game as no one wants to spend 300hr on a game trying to get better and better. Blue ranks is where the real tekkan climb begins as you lose more points than you win. So yes there is a bit inflation but it's on purpose if you were a game dev you'd do the exact same as a player retension tactic. Tekkan 7 many people left rank due to being "too hard" they were stuck in red and quit the game. So in tekkan 8 they made it look rewarding until blue rank.
I know but like this there is too much discrepancy between the mid and the high system, and at the same time you are stripping away value to the ranks themself. I don't see this as positive for anyone...
Im pretty average. And that's okay. I can do combos, I understand my characters, I understand frame data, punishment, I'm creative and have solid control over my character specific movement but my execution is ass and I have horrible reaction timing. Im okay w this and you should be too. Room to improve is the healthiest place to be when learning anything. Thank you for this video, need more coaches out there like you man👌👍🤙
Bute there are diiferent types of people in the same rank. If someone is playing their main and is Raijin, they are 'true Raijins'. If someone has a main in God of Destruction and is playing their secondary or even third alternative character in Raijin, they will be som much better because they know the defense, they know throwbreakingm, they know where to duck or sidestep in a string etc. It's almost impossible to know how good someone is based on their rank. Tekken Prowess was suppose to deal with that but the problem is that it gets higher if you have like 10 Garyus, it is the same as someone who is God of Destruction, and they're of course not at the same level. Matchmaking in Tekken 8 sucks.
I think getting a proper matchmaking for Tekken 8 is very difficult due the nature of the game itself...yes if someone is on a higher rank with their main are gonna steam roll people with their secondaries, but at the same time they will be quickly promoted and get over that level pretty fast, the majority of the players you fight are going to be around your leveL IMO
Earlier ranks might be a bit easier compared to Tekken 7 due to the green ranks being made free, but high ranks still require skill. Good video, good conclusions, good data.
Yea you are right about blue ranks. I can keep getting to Fujin but I just can’t get above that. At that point you just have to be able to beat everyone you fight rarely loosing. I can beat rajin and Kushan players but I just can’t consistently beat everyone. I get few wins and by that point il get a fight against a bad match up few times then I’m back down again
Yes fujin to raijin feels rough. I got dvj and Jin to fujin multiple times over the last 3 months but man whenever it’s time to nearly promo I’ll choke a set against someone and get set back to an eventual losing streak.
@@holyother1 exact same for me 😂. Iv nearly got the promo few times but I always get a bad match up and loose. You just have to know how to fight every character perfectly. I just don’t have time or patience for it I think. It is an enjoyable fighting game though. I have to say out of most of the fighting games this one you really can feel that people have their own play styles where as something like mortal kombat everyone plays all the cast the same.
That's how I feel about Kishin. I can beat Tekken King ranked players, but not the majority of the time so I'm stuck. I'm pretty sure the guys I'm getting matched up with are Tekken God Supreme on their mains
i just recently realized that purple (where i'm at now) is actually pretty good contrary to what i believed before. i always see myself as the scrub noob who's slow to learn. one of my friend (a pro) always tell me that i'm doing good and i learn fast, which i actually didnt believe. now that i see the data, he might be right all along? i just play casually and i started learning to play tekken around t8 cbt
I think it also depends on which character you are using, my two mains are Bryan and Alisa , I have much more experience and knowledge using Bryan: studying, labing practicing match ups but am stuck in Raijin but I achieved and stayed in Kishin with Alisa with far less work and knowledge mainly by using the chainsaws.
I’ve seen this in other games as well, is that whenever there’s a new game in a series the ranks gets get inflated by all the new players joining, all the new players will fill up the lower ranks and returning player that were in those rank will get higher ranks then they where previously.
The ranking system seems to make matchmaking very weird for no reason, I'm at bushin right now, and blue ranks are wild, I can get stomped by a fujin (that was probably tekken king before) but the next match just 2:0 a tekken emperor without much effort. Hard to actually know if a rank represents their skill level
Matchup knowledge prolly explains that. I have a much better chance at beating a god of destruction Lee cause my friend mains him, so I know the matchup. But if I fight a bushin Xiao, I'm prolly doomed.
I think inflation compared to Tekken 7 End only happens until maybe Garyu rank. Upto Orange ranks, you win more points than you lose. Below yellow there is no demotion. Then again I play on Asian servers where it might be harder. So inflation might not be as much of a problem there.
at the moment the ranks don't say much... the tekken prowess a bit more.. but also not that much... at least it doesn't say anything about tekken skill or competence at the moment... at least it is like that in the middle part like high red up to kishin... it is just all over the place there at the moment... you have kishins where you think how in the world can that be a kishin.. he plays like a warrior or so... and you have tenryus where it's like WTF how is he tenryu ... he plays like a king or god... and that are not some rare encounters ... it's just absolutely chaos in those ranks at the moment.. realy all over the place...
Yes! When playing as Lee (Tenryu) I fought purple ranks that were piss easy but I lost to gimmicks and knowledge checks (Yoshimitsu's and Xiaoyu's) so I took the time to learn them all and counters/punishers while ranking my other 6 characters to Red. 4 Months later (Yesterday) greater knowledge great reaction times and speed. I played as Bryan (Shinryu) and fought a Shin Devil Jin with near perfect hit confirms, whiff launchers/punishers, counterhit confirms and knew about every ranges of his moves where he could pick the perfect whiff punisher at every range all the time, one hit created a deficit where I would lose 80% because his combos were optimised to the brim into + frames and gimmicks I labbed by abusing him to a point of complete mastery... And that guy is in red? Excuse me?
Totaly agree with Fujin + I main kaz and my execution is actually really crisp but stayed at Flame Ruler for a while , bc i was loosing to spams and checks , so i Joined some servers with tekken king + players , really learned alot and identifying the playstyle of my enemy has evolved. I played some low pickrate matchups and the basic tekken play was really bad from them. I lost maybe one set and if they rematched i mostly won by far after seeing what stupid shit they like to spam. Problem is alot of players check their way into fujin and only play one match and quit xD they really dont have a cule what they expect bc if they go to raijin + the prowess will fuck them so hard they either will have to learn from the beginning or they will quit tekken
Having great execution does not mean being strong necessarily, I was always intimidated by strong execution Kazuya, when I then noticed that most of the time they abuse electrics and you can whiff punish. Finding the balance and improving 360 degrees is the way to the promotion. This said, having the execution is probably the hardest part, so you will get there in no time!!!
I don't pay much attention to these things, it's more of an approximate measure of how good a player is, there are still may factors like some characters have advantages fighting others and vice versa.
I remember struggling getting to yellow ranks in TTT2, I was actually on a 14 win streak back then and the next match was supposed to be a promotion to Warrior, and I never reached Warrior because I lost that promo against Lei and Christie. In T8 you don't even lose points until Warrior so you can get it for free. I've reached Tekken Emperor in T8 and quit ranked for good. Back in TTT2 I couldn't even dream about reaching Emperor, even getting to red ranks was a dream. And now here we are in Tekken 8 where almost everyone can reach Fujin due to the new system
Assuming that TTT2 system was similar to T7 season 1 it must have been a nightmare... I think is good to have a system that becomes progressively harder and at the moment the higher ranks system is very punitive. I remember in T7 season 1 I could not get out of green ranks, but I was a real scrub!
@@TheGianGameIt's funny, I think the system stayed the same, but during season 1 I believe I almost made it out of yellow into orange, so I am not sure if I got better, or ranking system in T7 season 1 was more forgiving than in TTT2
i argue that ttt2 is more difficult because it theoretically requires more matchup knowledge per character and that gets compounded by going at 2 characters in tandem.
I’d say generally in order to actually be above average you’d have to be in the 10% that’s roughly how it is in overwatch when reaching diamond and then high level play starting in masters at top 5-3% I just reached battle ruler with Bryan today still on the grind to reach at least top 10%
Imo, rank is a biproduct of the journey, not the goal. Ive seen many people get so upset over demoting or inflated prowess matchmaking that they make new accounts to smurf on noobs where they plateau bc they arent learning anything.
Sometimes the journey can be the biproduct of the goal, I set myself to get to Tekken King, and after I got it I lost it straight after, going down 5 ranks by the anger. My new goal was then to get it back and I did , then it became Tekken Emperor... I think is more about how we live the experience and set it for ourselves!
Another flaw is the prowess based system. I have a semi mokujin mentally as in I like to play 10+ characters. Today I grinded my Paul to kishin but I had to face against 300k+ prowess players (one of them was a tekken god supreme leo) when my biggest is only bushin or people who play their mains in fujin but I have more experience and destroyed those who play their mains. The game punishes you heavily if you grind more characters.
So.. this is how I see ranked compared to T7. Purple ranks in tekken 7 are battle ruler , fujin and some rajin in tekken 8. Yaksa, ryujin, and emperor and tekken king are between kishin, bujin, tekken king and emperor and tekken 8. Anything above tekken god.. they were already good. Some tekken kings suck and don’t punish in tekken 8… but i remember it being like that in tekken 7 too.. so.. Purple ranks in T8 are the equivalent of orange ranks in T7. And that’s how I see ranked .
I think you should take in consideration the double standard blues (low and high prowess). I agree with you low prowess blue ranks don't feel like blues, but the high prowess ones that move around in Kishin and Bushin definitely feel like the old blues!!
So I've been stuck to Fujin/Raijijn back n fort lately, that means im terrible at the game? oh well, 8 months in to the bin, i might really suck hard considering what you said
Do NOT look at what I have said in black or white, there are gradients!! I have been playing this game for 25 years and I feel I finally start to understand it only a couple of months a go... Getting where you are now is already a GREAT achievement, but the further you progress in this game the harder and more complex the progression begun. You will eventually get over it and the satisfaction out of it will be priceless, keep it up!
@@TheGianGame Its already been a really stiff curve. At blue ranks you either play a very strong character who can flowchart incredibly well or if you play a mid/low tier like I do, you need to compensate the game labbing every matchup, wich personally its a thing that takes too much time that I currently don't have. Adding more ranks, fixing the matchmaking in general, getting rid of prowess and balancing the loss/gain of points depending the MAIN RANK of your opponent might help alleviate the tremendous curve that happens in blue rank. I Kinda agree to you when you say before Fujin its ALMOST a walk in the park but all of the sudden at blue becomes extremely frustrating, including players behaviours.
I've reached Tekken King with Jin and only have a few losses. I'm not much of a ranked guy and my stats don't mean anything but a lot of people are bad in this game because it doesn't punish you for losing until you reach yellow rank and you can't demote past warrior so now that means that even the people who are decent don't believe they deserve the ranks they get because the game says it's okay to suck and be at Fujin lol. T8 is trash, if this was Tekken 6 or Tekken TAG 2 where it was much more brutal a lot of these players will be hard stuck at the 3rd dan or disciple ranks where they belong. This game reminds me of Tekken Revolution where scrubs can reach Suzaku and Emperor with no amount of knowledge or skill.
Tekken 6 and Tag 2 where too severe in the lower ranks IMO, you need a system that offers a balanced experience depending at all the levels; at the moment the top ranks are ok but low and medium need some rework.
I don't care much about the rank for now, I just want to have fun with my character who happens to be low tier and hard to play. Ex: EWGF, kbd, wavu wavu etc 😂 . But if there wasn't deviljin in this game I wouldn't have bought tk8. ➡️↘️⬇️*️⃣2️⃣=⚡️
I don't think DJ is that low tier, but definitely hard to pilot...when the results starts to come on those characters, your Tekken improves like crazy👊🏻
I believe that also prowess system is kinda broken, i got a month ago promo to bushin with Steve and at the same time i got 200k prowess. From that moment i deranked all the way back to battle ruler, finding just tekken king or above (even G.O.Ds) smurfs characters. I don’t know if it’s just me or Steve just undertuned but i’m really frustrated! ps. Continua così Bro, stai facendo un ottimo lavoro

Or maybe you are improved! There is always going to be a inflation phenomenon in ranked system due the player base improving, If you play so many characters you have very solid fundamentals and they translate to every character
@charlyb9194 I feel its largely dependant of the character you play. Some of these tekken kings I fight don't even have base fundamentals. Usually it's the pub stomper characters. It's painfully clear some characters can carry mad hard but I don't ever see them any higher than tekken king. Anybody I fight tekken emperor and up are just dramatically more consistent in skill levels vs tekken king and below. With the tekken king rank specifically, the variance is just massive. I fight some people who remind me of green ranks and then some people who are really fucking good. Just a huge variance.
Heavy flowcharts characters have always being a thing. I think in this game, because of the aggressive gamestyle, they get a bit more rewarded. Achieving Tekken King it's way easier than maintaining it due the prowess increase you get.

You may be too severe with yourself, but I understand the feeling. The first time I hit Tekken king I considered myself bad, and while I think half of it was true, the other half was not, there were aspects of the game I was good at and I just was not allowing myself to consider those things achieved and seeing them in a positive way!
Saying only top 3% of all tekkan players is good is a bit stupid. I'd say blue ranks is when people can generally say they are "good" at tekken. When you reach emperor you can start saying I'm in "high elo, so I'm great" l

Anyone in blue ranks is considered a "good player" and how can they not be when only 15% of the world globally are in this catagory? I'm using statistics. Blue ranks is where the good players get filtered out to great. But reaching blue still requires time and effort on average they reach it 100-150hr playtime which isn't small. And if you want to start the whole "oh I'm tekkan king I know more" I'm sure if a God of destruction player spoke to you he'll brush off tekkan king and have a bigger ego than you.

Your logic is flawed on so many levels. But let me give you one and maybe in the next video you will research more. The point system actually works you fight the same guy you win you get points you lose you lose more even when you win again and ots 2 - 1 depended of rank you might not even out. The only thing that is rewarding is when you lose rank you might get a chance to get right back to rank almost half way through. That's it in blue and gold you might be on streak lose one and you get back to begining of streak. Research first.
I think I have done my research: - below blue you GAIN more than what you lose -above blue you LOSE more than what you gain as math teaches us in the first instance you will be able to progress having a win/loss ratio below just 50%, in the second case you will need a w/l ration ABOVE 50%... and I said multiple times I am ok with losing more point than what you gain; the problem for me is in the below blue section were everyone gets pushed into red and purple ranks and this makes all the ranks below almost useless!
@@TheGianGame sure, you get more points for a win than you lose for a loss but seeing how after 9 months of the game, half the playerbase is red or lower, they do seem to struggle a lot even with all the additional benefits to points gained. it's also not too suprising that there is a drop off from fujin to raijin, you can see the same in red ranks from garyu to shinryu. when people reach a certain threshold they were aiming for, the first rank of a new colour, they simply stop playing ranked and move to quick match. on top of that you do of course also start to fight gold (and above) rank players on their secondary characters which is another huge spike added to the difficulty.
