My husband has a degenerative retinal disease that wasn't diagnosed until we met and I encouraged him to see an ophthalmologist when he was around 20. He didn't do well in school because he was embarrassed about not being able to see well and found it easier to slack off and just skate by than to ask for help. He's not legally blind yet, but his condition will only get worse over time. Recently he expressed interest in going to college (9 years after graduating high school) and I'm doing everything I can to support him and help him, because I know he still feels embarrassed about his vision and I want to help him accept it and succeed in spite of it. He will be enrolling in January 2018 and I'm so excited for him. I know there will be hurdles to overcome, but I believe in him and I'm determined to make sure he believes in himself by the end of it.

At first I thought she came out about her sexuality as a blind person.

Me and my father are both legally blind, I felt so touched by sewing her journey and inspired to not hide my disability. My vision has been bad from birth so I have adapted to getting around without a cane and this has only motivated me to learn to be even more independent:)

What is your diagnosis? My mother has Stargardts macular degeneration. Like you, she hasn't let her blindness hold her back. It's refreshing, that's awesome 👊

Conchita, you touched my heart with your story. You have a wonderful soul, great character, a big heart and strength. You are beautiful inside and out; and I love your style! We all have the right to have a fantastic life and be happy and your story empowers others to be able understand that we are all very unique but at the same time are also not so different from each other. Saludos desde Inglatera! :)

Great video! Someone at Allure should edit the autogenerated captions so what Ms. Hernandez is saying is accessible for people who rely on accurate captions.

Never being able to see Europe. Or anything. How horrible. Think about the things in your life and how much you take them for granted and look her. Can't even see and lives life to the fullest

Your videos so inspiring. I have been legally blind since birth and I used to let that get in the way of my normal life. I went through exactly what you went through, but I stayed strong and so did you. You’ve made my day.

Maybe I get this wrong but I don't understand this "pride" concept. She's doing very well and I found her story lovely and inspiring to a certain degree. But I don't think you have to be proud of your sexuality or your disability. I guess what they mean is being proud of yourself but you're not just a blind or a bisexual person. You're you. And you're good as you are.

I enjoyed the first part of the message-but please-spare me the waterworks, it only diminishes the meaning of the message. Also I think she is mistaken when she uses race, I think she meant "culture." The interview really began to derail after the crying. The part about "coming out" was really trite and forced which made it seem disingenuous. That's just my opinion, take it as grain of salt if you wish.

This was extremely inspiring... until she started talking about race. It’s not a privilege to have parents that went through the terrible things that come with being a black person and now they can teach you those terrible things. It’s actually sad and shouldn’t be something that happens in the first place. However, this is very inspiring and got me on my feet this morning as there’s no excuse to be lazy after seeing this.
