Living in different countries means that you're exposed to a different culture and a different way of life. Once adjusted to, It can be hard to return back home and go back to your old way of life, habits, and culture. This has been my experience since arriving back in the United States after living in France for 7 months. Enjoy!

I agree I was living in Berlin for 7 months and when I came back to South Florida I was in reverse culture shock too. I never realized how loud Americans are until you’ve gotten used to German restaurant etiquette and then go to a restaurant in America😂. But I relate a lot to this video. While I was there I had to take a German integration course for my residence permit and started forgetting things in English! Now my brain is a mixture of both lol. Wouldn’t trade that experience for anything though as most Americans never leave the country let alone move out of it.

Oh my god, i relate to everything you said; feeling like it never happened, seeking discomfort when you don’t know the language and culture, growing as a person because of everything you lived (a lot of awkward moments because of language barrier) but when you come back home it feels like you become your old self before traveling. Sometimes i feel like people can’t understand my perspective after living so many different things so when i come back in France i feel mentally isolated. I lived the exact same thing as you, in longer and reverse;). Your videos are amazing, keep up with the good work.

I lived in England for 2 months (I'm from France) and like one week after coming back and starting my french routine again it felt like England never happened and like it was all a dream... Same! I lived in England for a little over a year (I'm from South Africa) and now that I am back it feels like it did not even happen, I remember all the things that happened and still remember my experiences, however, when I look back at things from England or when I talk to my friends from school who are still living there, it does not seem like I am the one who lived through those experiences and it all seems so distant.

I feel like as an American who has lived in Europe, the only thing I ever missed was air conditioning and space. Anything that truly matters in life like: food, safety, water quality, civility, healthcare, theater, the arts etc., the Europeans do better; but you have to be willing to live a more minimalistic life. Its definitely worth it!

I grew up in 5 different countries (Gambia, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, the US and Mozambique) even though I’m half American I’ve only lived here for 3 years. It’s like triple culture shock, I feel the struggle.

As a french student living in France, i'd say the rush feeling is also something we experience here all the time. I never had a 3hrs lunch break in my whole life. Always had an official 1hr break, but the time to get past all the steps before finally sitting down and enjoying your meal makes it that you're left with not even 40min in front of you... Same goes with the rush of the classes. Always had a very busy schedule from middle school to this day.

J'suis fr aussi et dans mon lycée certains jours on a 30 min pour manger, et des fois je préfère ne pas manger le midi tellement c'est chiant de rush ton repas. Mais le plus drôle c'est que soit on a 30 min et on a à peine le temps de manger ou 1h30 et on est tranquilles. Mais je pense toujours à ces reportages d'enfants coréens ou autres pays asiatiques où ils font 7h30-20h30 7j/7 et n'ont qu'un jour de libre par MOIS, donc pas de weekend, pas de dimanche ... On n'a pas le droit de se plaindre mais on est français.. C'est un peu dans nos gênes mais c'est dégueulasse de se plaindre sans prendre de recul

And this reverse culture shock video is really awesome because it capsulizes the chief difference. . . mainly being out of your comfort zone in Aix but now, back in the USA, relief and a sense of how easy it is to function. You are more on automatic pilot here. There your senses were nearly always on full-scale alert, always figuring stuff out. So, your perceptions about coming back home being so easy play off against what was really great about Aix.

This is such a wise video, im happy to here about your experience and how you've grown as a person because i can totally relate. I'm 19 and haven't really been home to sweden for about 4 years unless for a very quick visit but even those times it's been so strange, like nothing changed its trippy. I'm actually in france right now, so that's fun. I dont get a word of what they´re saying tho haha help
