Strict measures need to be implemented to protect referees, and it starts with ALL the Unions getting behind it and implementing ZERO tolerance for Ref abuse.

This genuinely looks awesome. I love that world rugby have chosen to do this and hope it's the beginning players and coaches taking responsibility for leading some of this anti-referee dialogue online.

I hope WR take this seriously and protect the refs. We need them more than ever and if supporters end up abusing the refs like they do in soccer it will be a sad day for rugby. We don’t want the soccer abuse element in rugby. Player always respect the ref in rugby that’s what make it so special. Managers must respect the refs and not publicly express their feelings regarding some decisions.

France has been robbed, again. But it's the reff who is complaining... he never apologized for his performance to the French peoples who love rugby and his team.

Referees should be respected, but so should players giving their all for their country. Players will get dropped for underperforming & being inconsistent In their game. So referees being inconsistent & making the wrong calls will (unfortunately) get some backlash from some in the public. Simply just do your job properly…. It’s not rocket science
@johnenright

not rocket science.... its not an easy job mate: easy to call stuff from your couch with the benefit of replays: much more difficult to see it in realtime. Could be in the perfect position and a body gets in the way to disrupt the view - cant account for stuff like that!

Most people just want to feel vindicated in their perceptions. Referees, in their humanity, can write history. It would be good if we saw more transparency around decisions and match reports, because they’re too shielded which just adds to the frustration.

Once again Dupont's mild remark is put forward in this trailer that is so incredibly discret about a certain player chasing a ref on a pitch after a game he didn't even participate in to call him names. This trailer screams double standards. I also don't understand why the bunker, that was created to protect refs is so heavily criticised. Make up your mind WR, respect the refs, let them do their jobs, give fair punishment to abuse without looking at the color of the shirt first and fans will follow. But if you let a man get away with a slap on the wrist despite an unforgivable behaviour, ask for a change in rules then abandon them quietly when some influencial fedarations ask to, this is just not going to work. Of course this abuse is dreadfull, and refs shouldn't have to endure any of it but lately i think WR put them in a situation where they have become a target and then WR calls to respect the ref seem a bit hypocritical.

It's a ridiculous and nonsensical task from a-z. Consider having to keep an eye one person in motion: do you watch the feet or the knees or the midriff or the upper body or the head or the elbows or the hands? Keep in mind there are two arms and two legs. Now consider the position of your line of sight: from the front or the back or the left side or the right side or from above or below. This is already a near impossible task. Add another person to your observational task. Near impossible now becomes totally impossible. Now consider 30 players!!! Impossible to the power infinity!!!!!! Even with outside aids in the form of two linesmen and TMOs. The poor officials cannot even gauge the simple forward pass rule. 30% of tries in 15-man rugby are from forward passes. In 7s it's 70%. The sheer pace of the action simply obliterates the microsecond required to make a decision. Our voracious appetite for entertainment and thrills, not to mention the involvement of megabucks are what drives the whole inscrutable cog of nonsensical impossibility. But the childhood thrills that first got us players hooked on the game, in tandem with the spectators' gladiatorial-tinged dopamine spurts of ecstasy are what keeps us all enthralled, regardless of however utterly ridiculous and impossible the officiating task is. As an extra aside:- Where there's money there's corruption. Where there's big money there's big corruption. Where there's mega money there's mega corruption.

Doesn’t help when top players blame the ref.

Fine, respect the referee, but there has been a string of very poor performances lately where the consistency of decision making has been all over the place. They should not be free from scrutiny and a lot of referees bring it on themselves. I for one am delighted Wayne Barnes is finished. He was too often the talking point of matches. Nigel Owens once said, If nobody talks about the referees performance in the aftermath, then the referee has done a good job
@Gilescowdemdem

Threats of violence towards the refs and their families are never ever justified. Doesn't matter how they perform. Similarly, in what sport is playing 'to' the referee not a thing. Everyone knows refs will have different interpretations and leniency in certain areas of the game and teams train to take advantage of those interpretations. Finally, players make mistakes regularly, and coaches make mistakes all the time so why would refs not be expected to make errors as well.

Agree 💯 Tianton1 referees should be the least talked about after a rugby match. Their over officiating of a match has taken away from the spectacle. Too much inconsistency in the interpretation of the laws is a shame.

Out of curiosity, are you a ref? If so perhaps you have a right to comment. If not try it on such a grand scale and then have the balls to have the same opinion.
@Tianton1

ah here would you come off it with that nonsense. I don't need to "become"a referee to say that the standard now is nowhere near what it used to be. I played rugby for 23 years and I always always respected the referee and accepted his decision on the field. Does not mean I thought he was right. I actually think referees are too respected on the field and players should be able to have a go at them if they are getting it wrong @@ianjamesrobbins6151
