What does it mean to become a gypsy wife?
Violet Ann has been employed for 5 years and lived an independent life until now. She is due to marry a gypsy traveller and will need to give up her job, move out of her house and into a marital caravan and become a full time gypsy wife.
We follow Violet throughout the run up to her wedding and also see how she is adjusting to her new gypsy wife duties.

I had to breakup with my fiance because he said "I am too ambitious for a woman" and asked me to quit the job after having kids. It was going to be an arranged marriage, there were no feelings to get hurt. I don't regret it. It was liberating. I smiled for hours after breaking up like crazy girl. I am getting married to another guy next year in March. In india dumping a man right before marriage is not something society appreciate. But, it's your life. It's your responsibility to make yourself happy. No one's gonna do that for you

I'm indian and the amount of failed arranged marriages (including my own parents) ive seen but they are still trapped in that marriage is just sad. Divorce and calling off the wedding especially if it is the girl that does it is something that our culture really doesn't appreciate. And they always look down on the women especially as if they were the only cause of a failed marriage or engagement. I agree. We must be responsible for our own happiness. Whilst our parents raise us up, they cannot control our life choices especially once we become adults. We are the only person in our lives that should have the last say. The only person that's going to be with as as long as we live is ourselves. So we should so everything to make ourselves happy. Thankfully, my sister got married to the love of her life and I hope I will find someone I love enough and someone who loves me and won't restrict me from being myself to marry in the future. If not, I will stay single forever lol.

🤔 I think people can long for freedom even if they have never experienced it. But the younger they are when they marry and taken out of formal schooling, the less likely they will have the resources and confidence to pursue a different way of life. What is sad is this way of life strips them of options. I haven’t finished this video, but she looks sad to me throughout. Perhaps she is just reserved. In the press, Violet Ann was really ticked off about how she and other gypsies were portrayed. She got a job temping where she and her husband are living. Because gypsies have struggled over the centuries this has given them the attitude to do all they can for their own survival, and unfortunately, thinking this way can lead to decisions which negatively affect others. There is a lot of crime that comes with traveller/gypsy communities and, even though Violet may be the exception to the rule, unfortunately, if you are associated with bad people you will get painted with the same brush. This comment was somewhat comforting. Been with my fiance for 7 years since we were 15. He cheated on me recently....I immediately kicked him out. I know I made the right choice I consider it a bullet dodged. Scary to think how I was about to sign a lease with him and marry him. Still hurts tho and idk why :/ I recognize its for the best but im still heartbroken. I'll definitely be looking into that book tho!

I googled Violet Ann and found a "Daily Star" newspaper interviewed her about a year after the show. She got a new job! Working for Harrods making chandeliers. Larry is very supportive of her and they split things 50/50. So it seems that her Freedom didn't end with her marriage after all 👍 I bet Violet Ann's mother is very jealous.

When her mom said she was head strong it reminded me of a time my father asked me to travel with him to celebrate my brother's promotion. I rarely see my brother so I was shocked when we were having dinner with him and his mom's side of the family and my father spoke on me being in my late 20s and still single "yeah she's dated some good guys, she's just really head strong." I've dated alcoholics and narcissists. My father is both of those things. My relationships failed because I was defensive towards alcoholic/ narcissistic behaviors. I thought it was super inappropriate for him to say. Now, my mom finally divorced him making his second failed marriage and he had cheated on her with a new not head strong woman who is showing signs of dementia. Some one else to manipulate who can only tolerate him because she doesn't work and can't support herself. Much rather be single than to fall into the trap of following in the foot steps of the negative relationship dynamics I grew up around.
