The level of professionalism to film other people, who are themselves filming a rocket launch.... honestlty mind-blowing. The cool part is that Tim will actually get to see so many that this will be a logical luxury down the road
@HarryMollyNut
@HarryMollyNut Год назад
Tim's yt channel has unfortunately become the victim of the "content monster". He was on such a roll 12 months ago with content, and the view numbers showed that. But due to a relative hiatus over the last yr, he's gonna find it very hard to regain that viewership. During that time "away" or "in the lab", other channels in the space, like NasaSpaceFlight & others have emerged and have relentlessly rolled out content. It just shows that even someone as magnanimous as Tim, will get seemingly left behind by an audience ravenous for content, and who gravitate to those who provide the most of what they want.

I worked in broadccast operations at NBC during the analog-to-digital transition (late Nineties-early Naughties). The early attempts were amazingly similar in terms of stress level and (lack of) success rate. A salute to your hard-working technical directors!

You will be blown away by the experience. I saw Voyager 2 launched from 4 miles away in 1977. I saw the Apollo 17 night launch from 10 miles away. I went down for a Shuttle launch that didn’t go. I had a VIP pass for a Shuttle launch I couldn’t make (forever regret). BUT - i saw a Saturn V booster test firing from ONE mile away on the big stand at Stennis. A launch will be only a fraction intense because of the extra distance but exceptionally spectacular and mind blowing because it goes up in the sky! Far far less acoustic energy but visually and overall it will be thrilling beyond description - pretty much so engaging to all the senses and the tremendous SUSPENSE as it goes up wondering if it will fly as it is supposed to. A first ever launch of a new vehicle is a unique adrenaline experience which I almost had with the Space Shuttle, but didn’t. You will never ever forget it, ever!!!!

I used to work for a local TV studio and we used to cover high school sports. We would arrive at like 2:30/3pm and it would take 2ish hours to set up. The kids would always ask, why get there so early? Because anything that can go wrong, WILL go wrong, and we'd rather have plenty of time to fix it! Even though everything was plugged in exactly the same in the truck every game... it still never worked!! This was a blast, so excited for your truck! I loved building and wiring mine!

This is why I love Tim's channel. Transparent about everything, he's done a ridiculous amount of research over the years to get extremely knowledgible (I love your long-form deep dive content), his raport with big names in the space engineering community, and his willingness to take the superchats / patreon, etc toward super expensive equipment to make our viewing experience that much better rather than keeping it all as profit (which he arguably needs to eat). I know I haven't been around your livestreams much lately because of being pretty busy with my own life but I think I can safely say we love your work Tim! Its much appreciated.

Think about all the corporate news stations, space X streams, even NASA, and the budget and backing they have, and your streams are what so many gravitate too. For a used news van, brand new equipment, new setup, with a small crew to do what you are doing is amazing. You have come a long way from the orange suit. Wow, that starlink launch look around shot is absolute bonkers... It got the feel of the launch through so well with it showing how the rocket lights up the vast sky and makes it look like dusk for a minute as it refracts the rocket flames towards the faces of everyone around. I think I finally kind of get the feel of being in rocket launches now. Digging the vlog-like style of the vid! (and of course how cool all the shots LUNA is getting!) Maybe little vlogs here and there as b-roll when you have nothing to do but little time to spend doing something can be interesting for more video ideas!

A year ago, I got to design and oversee construction a similar vehicle, called the OConsortium Technical Demonstration Van. There are a lot of similarities in the internal layout, including where the big monitors and the production switcher are mounted. Although not set up to do productions per se, we have done a couple productions with our van, as well as travel the country showing off new broadcast and media technologies. I can relate to the challenges you had on your first run out, as we had many of the same challenges on our first run.
