What It's Like Being A Supreme Court Justice

Being a Supreme Court justice is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. But it’s still a job, and a grueling one, at that. Justices often evaluate thousands of cases a year, selecting dozens that will go before the court and making decisions that will impact millions of Americans.
The position does come with some decent perks, though, like lifetime employment, a generous retirement package and obvious prestige. As Justice Clarence Thomas once told California college students, being on the Supreme Court is an honor, but he wouldn’t say he actually liked it. In fact, he lamented, there’s no money and no privacy.
Here’s what it’s like being a Supreme Court justice.

Hello, Courts have asked the people to drop appeals/etc in the box outside court so they can stamp the date I in person have filed the appeal and they stamped it on Tues. and also I put a duplicate appeal in the box on Tues, same doc.. (I was nervous) The issue: the clerk stamped the duplicate on Wed. which is the overdue date. Judge denied the appeal for the Wed appeal and ignore the appeal that I personally filed on Tues. I have my copy. Courts are putting any date they want on docs from the box. What do u recommend to do? PLEASE!

Two questions about how to become a Supreme Court Justice. 1. For the position of Chief Justice, do you automatically become chief when you are nominated and confirmed as the successor to the previous chief? Alternatively, is there a way to internally promote an existing associate justice to the position of chief justice, so that the president's new nominee after the previous chief retires, becomes an associate instead? 2. Can the president theoretically nominate anyone? Obviously they are more likely to nominate someone with relevant experience, but is there any formal rule on the qualifications one must have, in order to be eligible for this nomination? Any age/citizenship history requirements?
@slauderek3195
@slauderek3195 3 года назад
1. The Chief Justice must be appointed by the president and voted on by the senate like a regular justice. The president can nominate anyone to fill that position whether it’s a regular person or someone already on the Supreme Court 2. There’s no qualifications a justice must have to be justice. The president can literally nominate anyone he wants including you or me. However, since it’s unlikely the senate is going to confirm someone without judicial experience, a nominee will almost always be either a federal judge or at the very least an experienced lawyer
@carultch
@carultch 3 года назад
@@slauderek3195 Ok, so in theory, a president could promote an existing associate justice to chief justice, and in a separate process, a new judge to now-vacant associate justice position. But in practice, the president it is much more likely to just appoint a completely new appointee directly to chief justice. Because the alternative would require two confirmation processes for little (if any) advantage.
@bearing_aficionado
@bearing_aficionado 3 года назад
@@slauderek3195 you are right since Obama nominated Kagen and she was never a judge. Funny how people on the left seemed to forget that when they were screaming about ACB, claiming she never heard a case or what not. She had been a federal judge for about three years.

@Milesco

@@beefcurtainz69 : It's all relative. To a "normal" person (like me), $255 K is damn good money. But as Dominik pointed out, it's much less than what a corporate lawyer with a similar background could make in the private sector. Also, the cost of living in Washington D.C. (and most other similar metropolitan areas on the eastern seaboard) is quite high. Nonetheless, speaking for myself, I'd be glad to take that salary in exchange for the power to issue final rulings on important legal issues of the day.

Ai Imanil was not even 5 years old when she's shot by Gloria Casupang Calimlim-Loscocco, Lau. Thus, the Supreme Court Justices must hear argument for and against US healthcare insurance and US healhtcare lawsuits of wrong treatment, wrong surgical procedure, prescription medications, wrongful deaths and others. Theft of DNA sequence is another problem that US healthcare is faced with and this also requires lawsuits? Be prepared.

....and Justice Thomas is correct. That is not a job one takes for the money. They are not paid much at all. If $250,000 is a year is a lot of money then: 1- you don't live in high cost area, 2- you don't know any actually wealthy people. It is rather common for lawyers to earn $250,000, even in smallish towns like Muskegon, Flint, and Lansing . Those people could actually have private lives and make more than that, or leave that job now, and make triple that in a heartbeat.

The Supreme Court's present day purpose is to negotiate public opinion and corporate interest. The Supreme Court simply does not have the power against an organization that unconstitutionally creates most of the money we use using signed promissory notes as outrageous as that may be. This organization has an acquisition of most multinational corporations, that is, they control the food, employment, the media, transportation, shelter, technology using majority shareholders. This control is an empirical fact. If the a case comes in conflict with corporate interest the Supreme Court will not touch the case and if it does hear it they will support corporate interest. However, in a minor conflict they will throw us a bone for the purpose of public opinion. Supreme Court justices presently are selected expressively because they have previously shown interest for the status quo.

That's incorrect. When she was doing courtesy calls before her confirmation. She said at one that she had never been hunting, but if she was confirmed she would ask justice scalia to take her. After she was, she told the story to Scalia and he took her to his shooting range. She practiced, and they would indeed go hunting several times over the years.
