Got two aussies (4years and 5 months). Pro: having them play together and seeing the pup learn from the big one. Con: older dog misbehaving because he sees the puppy misbehaving and thinks he doesn’t have to obey to the rules anymore

I found that the effort for two Aussies was three times the effort of one: the interaction between me and the one, the other, and between the two. But three times the love too... But you have to go into it eyes wide open.

We had 2 Aussies both big males black tries 60 lbs+. So much love and fun but they both passed away early because of cancer. I miss them every day. they would keep other company , play and play, didnt seem to be any extra resonsabilty with 2 but if there was it was well worth it. Enjoy your doggies while you have them. Its so sad that dogs have such a short life and they must die old and sick.

when dogs get older, having two can be extremely helpful for their quality of life. growing up, my family had work and school during the week but my two beagles were like siblings and hung out with each other all day. they would cuddle together and play together. one of them went blind later in life and the other would help guide them around. if you have the time, money and energy - having two dogs is for sure worth it!!

Pro: our dogs keep each other company when we are at work during the day. Con: it can be harder to get a friend or family member to take care of 2 dogs if you need to go somewhere and can't take them with you. Depending on the needs of the dogs it can be a lot to ask to take 2 dogs rather than just 1.
@Mcortz

It’s more than double the work when getting a second dog. People need to know it’s not like your current dog will teach your new puppy everything. You need to take time and explore everything with your new puppy, while maintaining training and socialization with your older dog and still keep being a leader for your dog. I thought it was hard being a leader for one dog, but when getting another dog, it was a lot harder. But after getting two dogs and learning how to control them and being a leader I feel like I could get 10 dogs and still be fine ❤️
@TheScoobysteve

To say nothing of the fact that the first dog can become super jealous and possessive. It's quite confonting seeing a new puppy get snarled at.
@Mcortz
@Mcortz 2 года назад
@@TheScoobysteve in my opinion, dogs don’t get jealous. That’s a human feeling. Dogs claim you and that’s the thing you need to look for. If I give one of my dogs affection, I push the others away

I have 2 Aussies. I had not planned to get them so close together but i got them 3 months apart. Training 2 puppies is very challenging and would not recommend getting them so close together. Train your first dog thoroughly before getting the second. However, they are so much fun! I can’t imagine my life without them both. They get along well and it’s fun to watch them run, play, and wrestle together. Lots of laughs!

Indie doesn't come across as a typical Aussie :-) She seems very calm! I could not agree more with you! A dog doesn't need another dog for companionship. You're your dog's best friend! If I wasn't my dogs best friend, I would really question myself as a dog owner and as a person.

I have 2 male Aussies myself, currently 5 months and 6 months. I've had them since they were 6 weeks old. We chose to get them close together to get house / potty training over with. 1st one was potty trained by 8 weeks old, but the 2nd one kept having accidents up to 3 months... That was the biggest con for us. Also when it came to training sessions, we'd have to separate them to maintain focus when learning new commands. Lastly, sometimes they can play pretty rough but knows when to switch off for their daily naps throughout the day. Which I feel like is due to our consistent daily routines in the household. But also it was important for when choosing a breeder that breeds well tempered pups, 🐶 I feel like thats a big misconception when it comes to Aussies.. "They're all high energy 24/7". Also, a lot of people don't know that theres a huge difference between show line vs working line Aussies. To conclude: no matter how many dogs you have consistency and routines are key. We love our Aussies so much that we plan to add a 3rd one soon! ❤ They've taught us patience, compassion, empathy and just overall love love love.

We got litter mates. Husband: “it will be easier”🤦🏻‍♀️ Me: does ALL the training (exhausting to train 2) While they have each other and we love them both. Everything is so much harder. Also I feel such guilt to kennel one and work with the other. Or kennel one and walk the other. So much work! I’m Sure in the end it will be worth it.

First of all,... I truly enjoy your video's! I just discovered your site today (07JUN 23). I was just chosen this morning to adopt a mini Aussie which I'll pick-up in the coming days. I'm SO EXCITED!!! I'm recently retired and have nothing, but time to dedicate to my new family member and other members!!! To your question,... I've had as many as 4 dogs of various breeds at one time, ranging from 50 lbs to 65Lbs, while working full-time. Two of them have passed in the last 18 months do to age. My current remaining 2 are so bonded. They do everything together! So when I have to step out for a few hours, I know they are in good paws with each other. I can't imagine having just one dog ever again. But that's me! 🙂

I know it's not the same than having 2 dogs, but I have a 5months australian sheperd and a 3 months kitten, and it's exhauting cause you have to give each one attention, and then you also have to be careful when they're playing, so that they don't hurt each other, or they don't make a mess of your house :') But when they lay down for a hug it is so damn cute you forget everything else ^^

Most cats are very independent. Even if you don't give them much attention, they will never be destructive. They like doing their own stuff and sleeping most of the time. Dogs need to have discipline and training. If not, they will become very annoying, destructive and even aggressive. I have 3 cats. They only need about a total of half an hour of socializing everyday. I just adopted an untrained 2 year old Aussie. She needs constant attention, lots of intense exercise and walk. 1 hour is not enough for just 1 Aussie. And she is aggressive toward my existing dog, bicycles, motorcycles, and sometimes even people walking and talking on the street. She hates noise and is very nervous inside my minivan and even walking on the street. She was an outside dog with absolutely no indoor experience. She wasn't really potty trained. I bet her previous owners never walked her outside of their property. I believe she was never socialized with other dogs. It is a nightmare. Cats are always much better in terms of maintenance.

I have 2 mini Aussies (a 1 year old and a 5 month old). We were worried at first because my older dog has so much energy so we thought the other one would be like that, but the puppy was actually easier with the training in general! Pros: they both get along and entertain each other, the younger follows the oldest lead and doesn’t chew on things because is playing most of the time. / Cons: at some point my older dog stop listening as much. But finally things are going back to normal 😅 I love watching this channel! It was the first one I started watching when I first got my older dog Luna! And it helped me a lot! Frankie & Indie are awesome!

Needed to see this video Joey thanks!, I have really worked with my two Aussies and fighting and jealousy has gotten better. Baylee only eats while in crate with food manners. And pua has gotten 3x better with food manners. Baylee is slowly understanding that it is not okay to hurt her sister or act up :) my mom or step dad hasn’t complained about their behavior to me , and I think it’s getting better. I just found your channel and I love it!! You make great videos and the dogs are gorgeous and clearly well loved. I only have one doggo at the moment - a border collie. I love dogs so much, but I'm just loving being able to spend so much time one on one with mine and I really don't want another one at the point in our journey. He's only a year and a half, I have had him since he was 6 months. He came from a pretty rough home, and he's come so far in every aspect and we just have such a special connection that I don't think there's room right now for another. And he's happy with that too I feel, because he loves his alone time and has a best friend he visits alot. In saying all that I think if you are equipped and prepared, the more the merrier. But intentions have to be in the right place too

We have an old dog (border collie) who will be twelve years old. He has back problems. We have also taken a puppy aussie. In the past we've always had two or three dogs. There have never been any problems. Now it does cause some problems and they do not correspond to each other. Sometimes they match and sometimes they don't. We can take the moments out of it, eating moments, moments of attention and playing moments (of the puppy). So we also ensure that the oldest dog gets enough rest and attention, separately from the puppy. We also leave them together but make sure that things don't get out of hand. Greetings from Belgium.

What a great video we have seen Indi before in some of your other videos. we have two Australian Shepherd‘s one blue merle, one red tri, they’re both minis weighing about 38 pounds apiece they are each other‘s best friends they’re both female they get along and are bonded in fact I don’t know what would happen if one of them wasn’t here. the pro is they are such amazing companions you are absolutely right when you say you that you have to have time for your dogs if you don’t they will find ways to entertain themselves! but that’s not the con the con is oh my goodness all the fur it’s everywhere there are no vacuum cleaners made that can keep up with shedding Australian Shepherd‘s LOL!! but the love and the companionship makes it worth it. Keep the videos coming. Brad and Diana It’s about time now

I have 3 Aussies. 2 Mini, 1 standard. They’re all somehow runts of their litter. But they have all the energy of an Aussie. Pros: They play together, learn from each other, when one gets in trouble the other gets to learn from it as well. And it’s basically the same as having 2, it’s just more. Cons: More Fur. Also, the older male doesn’t like the younger male ever since he was a puppy. The older male acts out more because of jealousy. The female is an Angel of course. I’d say the HARDEST part is you can’t train them simultaneously. I mean you can, but they are either distracted by each other or they’re competing for attention rather than following the command being taught. I have to wear them out physically before I can start any mental stimulation, as is with most working dogs, and if I really want to make progress I have to separate them to teach tricks. It really is a lot and anything more than 2 Aussies is definitely extra work, but it’s worth it because the 3rd has become a better friend than the 2nd. And the 2nd is a moody cuddle bug that only wants to be with me or other humans and depises other dogs. The 2nd also loves running with me and is the most behaved when being exercised. They were all relatively socialized they just have different personalities, quirks and preferences. More of a ramble than a pros and cons list but they’re so great and I’m resisting getting a 4th every day 😂😂😂😂

Have always had two dogs. On my third set. First one growing up was a toy sheltie beagle mix and Irish Setter. Second set was a boxer and a blue tick coonhound. Currently a Borderhealer and Aussieborder who are first cousins and they are two months apart in age. In each case the second dog helped to mellow the first. The hardest thing is having to separate the dogs during initial training. One pup at a time. Otherwise it is a joy having two

Two Aussie family! But not just two aussies... two DOUBLE MERLE aussies!! Both are deaf! Chantey (2yrs F), and Ollie (7mo M). I love them both they are nuts. Pro: play pals! The cats get harassed less because the two dogs are more interested in each other and have the same play style (reenacting the final battle of The Lion King...) Cons: Sharing... Having 1 dog is like having an only child. I’ve owned and bred dogs since before I ever was. When I was born my parents were already breeding Great Danes. I’m 50 now. Of course some breeds do perfectly fine by themselves, such as Shih Tzu’s, but high energy dogs such as Boxers, Aussies, or even Dachshunds do a lot better with another dog. It alleviates a lot of their anxiety issues and they will play a lot with each other, which allows you to do other things.

I have a 2.5 yr Black-Tri and a 1 yr Red. Both Aussies and both have similar, and at the same time completely different personalities. My oldest grew up with my (at the time) 5 year old Norwegian Forest Cat. He's so calm, sits like a cat - very reflective of having spent close time with a cat. My 1 yr old Aussie is my "quarantine puppy" and because I was home a lot, I never gave him many restrictions so he's pretty energetic. What I love about both is that my oldest really has taught him a lot and especially how to act around their 7 year old cat sister. Even my oldest "speaks" a lot more and has gotten more playful which I love to see. Yes, there is more hair, more mess, more poop cleaning, but none of that has ever been a problem for me. The only thing that is a bit burdensome is that it's easier to go places like cafes, music shops - enclosed spaces with one medium size dog, but having two (esp with one a bit wild) is a bit much. BUT working with their trainer to get them calmer esp the youngest so it's easier to go to places together. I have my own house with a front and back yard so they have the space to run free. My work is a hybrid schedule where sometimes I work from home and sometimes I go into the office. And even then, the office is dog friendly. All of these things give me the freedom to have both and for them to also live comfortably. If I lived in an apt or worked outside of my house all day, I would not have gotten another Aussie. So, definitely take a look at where you are in life before you take on another dog, especially an Aussie.

As the owner of 3 dogs, it is mostly better all around than having just one. The best part is that you get hilarious dog-to-dog behaviors you would not see out of your dog any other way. They cuddle, they play, they tussle, they take care of each other, they plot to get the best of you. The downsides are not that it is more work or a lifestyle change because you are mostly into that situation anyway. But it is a bit more expensive in terms of healthcare costs, accessories, and food. And there are times when their needs are different and you have to slow a walk down to accommodate your smallest or oldest. The other hassle is that they can sometimes get into each other's food or squabble over a toy or chew. But having had just one dog several times and for many years, and also having had 2-3 dogs for many years, I feel like I strongly prefer the multi-dog mode to the single dog mode.

I have 5 dogs all different they are all different ranges and can be protective of who was here first but in the end they play together and pro they all are amazing and there different in there own ways but con they all are different wen liking things a certain way but they are literally my family even in the bad days. 3 weeks ago I got a mini Australian Shepard and he’s literally everything to me know but u have to show attention to my older dogs which yes is a pain sometimes but they somehow connect in some way.

My husband and I have a full size aussie that we rescued. She is 3. We have an 11 year beagle mix boy. One pro is seeing how different they are in personality and just everything. A con is it is a lot of work with two. Vet bills especially. Just make sure you can take care of both of them. My husband and I go to work 8 to 5 but then we are home most of the time.

Pro: I have 3 doggies (5 year old Yorkie, 10 yr old black lab, 9 yr old Aussie) that live on a farm, these dogs have brought so much happiness and love in my life! I learn so much from each everyday!! Con: I am a grad student and 3 dogs are time consuming but it’s a nice break from life and school!!!

Hi Joey, I recently discovered your channel and have really been enjoying your videos. Looking forward to a "Favorites" video hopefully soon 🤞 I see that you both have different Wilderdog rope leashes. Do you have a favorite of their 3 main options, Big Carabiner, Small Carabiner or Quick Clip?

Have 2 aussies, kinda similar to yours (one was owning since a puppy and is almost 2, the other was adopted at 1.5 yrs and is almost 3). Pros: Seeing the differences between the two every day. They have such different personalities, but their bond is crazy cool. Con: They will build off each other's energy. So if one is on alert, the other is immediately on guard and ready. It can be difficult to calm down both at the same time if you're by yourself.

So, you had one dog and now two. Your dogs are wonderful, very compatible and seem happy. I am extremely loyal to my animals and they are to me. No way I would give my animals away. They are family. My wife and I feel the same way which is very important! Wishing you and yours a good day every day!

My neighbor got a second dog because they were too lazy to play with the first. Dogs never leave their yard. They don’t even walk them. 🙁 I have one Aussie. She’s my second. Almost 4 years old. First lived an amazing 15 1/2 spunky years. New to your channel. Willow say wuff!

I’ve got 2 Aussies (brother and sister). A main pro is that they have each other whenever me and my gf are gone. They keep each other happy and i think it’s really good for them to be together. CON: vet prices, dog food. Make sure you are financially stable because things can come up and you’ll have to be paying double the price

Also i would say invest in a trainer, I know it seems like you can do it yourself, but having a professional trainer for 4 weeks 1 hour day made all the difference. When May comes around we will do 4 weeks of of leash training to get the proper license to take them hiking. As you stated they are living creatures and they get distracted easily. It is amazing how people just let their dogs off leash and start to yell at them to come back and they don't because of another dog or other distraction. For me having a great experience with my Aussies has been teaching them to do things like park it, or roll over or fetch, and jump up or hold or break. But the fun part is that you have to keep training them every day 30 or 40 mins at time.

I have two dogs (soon to be 3) and it’s definitely something that takes getting used to but 1. Your dog will have another dog to constantly socialize with and a con is that they can be more expensive because there’s vet bills for 2 dogs rather than just one, you have to buy more food, grooming for 2 dogs is more expensive than one and the dogs might take a while to get used to each other but honestly a lot of these cons you already have dealt with because you have indie over often it’s definitely awesome having multiple dogs it just takes some getting used to and you need to make sure you have the money and time to care for two dogs!

I have my working Therapy Dog Aussie, Hunter, and my mini-Aussie, Lucky. Hunter would have been perfectly fine as an only dog, but he also loves being “Doggy Daddy”. I went on to foster fail two more littles - a chi and a muttly, and we call Hunter “Big Daddy”. He takes care of all of them like they’re his babies, and keeps them in line when they step out! Having multiple dogs is definitely a lot more responsibility and it’s a financial obligation as well. I know everyone loves dogs, but I don’t recommend getting a dog unless you have the time and financial ability to care for it the way it should be cared for - and that means, as if it were your human child. Dogs need a lot of interaction, attention and care. They need to be registered, licensed, fed good food, taken to the vet regularly, and provided with medical care from the vet when something isn’t right. These things cost a lot of money. If you’re not able to provide those things for your dog, you should rethink getting one. And two or more is not double - it’s more like 10 times the requirements. So yes, I recommend having multiple dogs - but only if the human is able to care for them appropriately. ❤️

One big challenge with the younger puppy was teaching proper things to chew on. Whenever she’d chew on a couch or shoe I would try to give her a toy and the 4 month old puppy would come along and steal the toy right out of her mouth! So difficult to teach appropriate chewing with this happening.

I have two dogs (one is lab mix, 14 months old, the other one is mini Aussie, 8 months old). The older one used to be shy and afraid of people in general since he’s been abused and abandoned before. But his personality changed a lot after we have the second puppy. Pros: They accompany each other all the time. They learn from each other. They play with each other at home. They’ll never be bored. The older one feel so much more confident with the second one. Cons: They learn bad habits from each other too. So be careful to have the second one if you haven’t trained the first one very well yet. My second pet dog used to be protective of food to the first one, like growling when the first one came close to her food. I spend quite a mount of time to train the second one to be friendly and generous on all the resources with the first one. She’s doing quite good now. They never fight with each other for food or any treats.

My family used to have 3 dogs unfortunately two have them have died (1 German Shepard, 1 one Cocker Spaniel, and one unknown breed though she was a small dog.) The Cocker Spaniel is the one left and we recently got an Aussie. Pro- None of your dogs feel alone when your out and they always have a play mate Con- When the dog is feeling alone they have other dogs to be around

I have 2 aussies a blue Merle and a ghost or phantom Merle. Wevdo have acreage and cows for them to play with. They have a lot of energy at 3 and 5 yrs old. I am watching my daughters 2 yr old red Merle for 6 months while she moved to another state. Adding a third is craaazzzzzyyyy. It’s crazy how one more to the mix is totally crazy once there is more than2 you should have 10 lol.We play a lot of frisbee, catch, swimming in the ponds and herding cows.

I have two dogs (a 1 yr old male blue Merle Aussie and a much older border collie mix) the pro is I don’t worry as much leaving them alone in the car or at home because they’re less likely to freak out since they have each other, also having the border collie to play with my puppy is really nice for energy terms. The con is when they are best friends and one of them runs off to maybe do something “bad” it’s possible the other one will follow and then it’s harder to get them both to come back to you especially if one of their recalls isn’t as good as the others. Basically if one of them is barking at something then their both barking at that something and that’s a different situation to deal with.

Got a second dog (great pyrenees) when my aussie was still a puppy (around 6 months). Pro: Aussie has someone who will tear around the big backyard with her more often! So even on rare days when I've got too much work to do the dogs still get plenty of exercise and playtime without me, and they love playing together. Also they keep each other company when we're not home. Cons: Aussie gets territorial over her food which has led to fights with the pyr and we basically have to feed them separately to be safe. But to be fair she even gets jealous when she sees me feeding our horses and thinks I'm giving away food that belongs to her - it's a thing we haven't been able to train out of her yet, in general. So far the most improvement we've seen is she doesn't fight over their regular dog food anymore but if we ever want to give them special treats/bones, they have to be separate.

Pro: younger learns from the older one so the learn quicker. If the second isnt a pup, their personalities mash. Have a crazy 4yr old golden and added “calmer” aussie pup 2 years ago and the golden calmed down a lot. Con: when you have a well trained dog you forget how hard puppy/ crate/ potty training was
