It's my opinion that the people around you should adjust to you, not the other way around. If the people you work with are aware of your TS then it's their responsibility to educate themselves on it and treat you the way they would want to be treated.
Little late on this, (just recently discovered the video) but I suffer from several types of tics. One is severe facial spasms where I get an overwhelming urge to tighten every muscle in my face. Another is a vocal tic. This one is complicating. Sometimes it can be a small mumble/hum, and other times it can be an all out scream. Obviously I do that one with my mouth closed. My most frequent and common is a head twitch that gets me the most looks and the occasional D bag who likes to mock me. As a fellow sufferer of tics, I'm sure you also been a victim of that bullying as well. I used to think I was all alone with this curse but over time I realized how many people struggle with the same thing and videos like this really help me cope with it. Just know that you're not alone. Its a terrible thing to go through, but we are all in this together. 😊
You are 100% right! We are all in this together and together is the only way we will get through. The most important thing TS taught me in life was the true power of love. Enjoy your day! :)
Thanks for sharing. My boyfriend has tourettes and I'm not very familiar with it. It's very new to me and I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible. 💜
When I've held in my tics for a long period (too long) I've gotten a really sick feeling and full-on migraines. I don't think my tics are induced by stress but suppressing them sure is stressful.Your videos are really natural and watchable, I like your holiday vids but I hope you do some more about Tourettes. You're really positive which is a rarity but very welcome when it comes to the subject.
I used to watch you when I had bad tics and it was sort of comforting to see someone with the same thing. It's great to see u improve from the last time I watched u 👍
Lol when you said holding a tic in and it’s like a mosquito bit that itches I related so much haha thank you for sharing the content was great I really enjoyed it 😁
Can definitely relate 100% esp when you said it was like holding in hiccups or stubbing your toe. I hold mine in throughout the school day and i needed a good analogy to describe it to my friend, so thank you!
I was typing this up earlier but I don't think it posted... I describe a tic as a cough.. ie. you feel like you need to cough, you could try to ignore it but its not going away and it only gets worse as time goes on.
Hello, I'm Shannon, 40, I'm trained in psychology always interested in Tourette's, Trichotillomania, OCD, the ones I have, but in a milder form. I always had the same tics since I can remember I control this around people, but it's exhausting. So by evening every night I let loose, my family gets annoyed at times, don't blame them. It all depends on how overtired I am, the louder more repetitive I get. I remember first grade to college bathroom trips to tic. I thought since I can sometimes control them it wasn't TS. Now I feel it's a milder form of TS, the same tics for 35 yrs every single day of my life. Thanx for your video!
Shannon Hudson thank you for your comment! it's nice to see others out there going through some of the same things!!! It's very nice to relate!! You just brightened up my whole day :)
I am a 46 year old man and have been dealing with TS starting around 10 years old. I never had any significant vocal episodes, but ran the full gamut of facial, neck, and even some torso movements. It is beyond exhausting. I also work in a school surrounded by kids so I am almost never out of the eye sight of at least one person. Are usually use my lunch break is it time to relax and Tic away if I have to. There is no cure and I have found that it doesn’t necessarily get better per se, but with time and maturity and wisdom I have found many ways to Decrease the size of my movements and try to limit them to less visible locations. It does have a tendency to wear you out just like this presenter said
I don't want to sound like the weirdo who comments on all your videos, but you've got such a positive attitude. I love how your smiling through your tics, and I think that's awesome. Plus your smile is really pretty! (:
Love the video! I think you pretty much nailed it! I know for me though, if I hold my eye tic in for too long, it finally gets to the point where I have to do it and it comes out even worse than if I just did it to begin with. I love your videos! You should make them more often 😊
I completely agree when I hold them in they do get way worse! Thanks tho!! I'd like to make way more videos I just don't really know what to put in them haha
I always have told people that holding in a tic feels like having an itch and trying not to scratch it. Thank you for sharing about your experiences with us! Hopefully someday there will be a medicine or a cure or something to help us, because there not much out there :( Unless I don't know of it so anyone that does feel free to let me know
I have Tourette’s as well, I always explained it like imagining having a bunch of mosquito bites but you couldn’t scratch them, so funny exactly what you said.
I’ve had adult onset tics for just 2 years and I made my own video but I choose not to hold them in. I believe I can be more authentic that way and for me it’s usually more to do with emotions. I choose not to medicate. I’m embracing them and you’d be surprised at the positive response.
I saw video where guy used a dental device n it really lowered his tics! my vocal, breathing tics make me black out they are so exertive too. I wonder does it count as aerobic exercise!! although I almost stop breathing when I force my breath out hard for so many counts. when I am in a calmer state....if I see someone else tic, oh, boy....I gotta join in the groove! I wonder if TESLA could have figure out how to harness this SUPER ENERGY POWER!! I think tics are from over brain powered, highly synaptic super uber mensch!! we are highly elevated but we think its negative and its probably a great resource once its fugured out! we are advanced beings but misunderstood!! so thanks for your SUPER INSIGHTS!! you are senstive, strong, very wise and insightful, compassionate and a great comfort for so many! you are a great blessing and a great leader!! hugs!! tic toc!
I have tourette's also. When I try to verbalize the sensation I experience when holding in a tic, I usually say that it's similar to not scratching an itch.
I can def relate to this. Thanks for sharing, this is a great video. I spend most of my time trying to hold them in and it just makes it worse when I get home.
Hi Montana, I'm a producer with the TV production company, Optomen Productions. We are the production company behind the show Employable Me on BBC2, where extraordinary job seekers aim to prove that neurological conditions such as Tourette’s or autism should be viewed as an asset rather than an obstacle in the workplace. We are currently developing the show in the US, and are searching for people with Tourette Syndrome who have struggled to find employment and might have interest in being part of the program. I know you mentioned that you're currently working in this video, but if you're at all interested or know someone who may be interested, I would greatly appreciate you passing my contact info along! I can be reached at casting@optomenusa.com Thank you! Sarah
I always tell my friends that holding in a tic feels like one of those “try not to sing/ hum/ or dance along” videos on RU-vid. You really want to tap your feet or sing but you have to hold in the urge and you can do it for so long but after a while it just starts to overwhelm you
An over whelming feeling that literally drives you nuts. Have you ever seen roger rabbit and the dr.doom is doing the wall song and roger is going nuts trying to hold in not singing along(if you haven't seen it, it won't make much sense), it's just like that, lol. Has gotten better with age, I can be around others without needing to leave because the over whelmingness is taking over, but now that I'm older I find it makes me more depressed when I'm not doing any of it, so basically going from physically to mentally.
I find that in public i tend to mask them, especially the neck tics by pretending to do something else no matter how extreme. Dude really you need to check into Clonidine patches! They really do work! The patches work for a full week and thats so cool as i take quite a few meds for other things. C Ya...
I have always been an extremely OCD person. In the past few years, the things I have to do to suppress the anxiety are a lot less. In the same timeline, I noticed that when frustrated or stressed. I get hot, almost sweaty, and I didn't realize it at first, but I was swearing under my breath. I was really surprised, especially at the word I chose. The N-word. That being such an awful word, I said to myself I have to not say that. Now the urge is 1000 times more intense. My father had adult onset to rats in his 30s, I'm extremely worried that it's going to happen to me now. But then again I'm OCD so I could be obsessing.
Jeremiah I do the same thing with the "N" word but most the time I just act like I'm joking. haha it's really all you can do sometimes! Thank you for your comment your ROCK!!
Daniel Cheng it kinda builds up in my head as a temptation and then I consider the damage and if I can I let it out. My opinion is the tics are just a manifestation of the actual OCD in a more physical form if that makes any sense?
Ok this is my issue, when I was younger I had ticks squinting moving my feet neck and shoulder, and through my twenty’s thirty’s I managed to get a handle on it unless I got a little tired then I’d loose control. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder not long ago, I could hold in the symptoms of the low end of that around my work mates and started taking medication, I now have no control over my ticks anymore. It’s an incredible urge to move, squint all sorts. I searched the Internet to try to find out what it was, I know it’s not Tourette’s because I have no vocal ticks. My partner and I have a laugh about it, I know it’s not malicious with her, but if we talk about it, it gets even worse!! What are your thoughts buddy.
Thank you for posting. I have a 10 year old son with TS. He holds them in all day at school (mostly) and when he comes home he is exhausted. He has chonic headaches, neck and wrist pain. I'm trying to explain to the school that is actually is NOT good for him to hold in his tics (they are not asking him to). He just thinks he needs to. I hope he can become comfortable enough to tic when he needs to, because the side effects of holding in the tics is really horrible. I may share your video with his teachers.
I'm just trying to figure out what's up with my dad, he's in hospital at the moment because one moment he is himself, and another moment later he snaps and has to hold his arms up in a fist and jump up and down screaming at the top of his lungs... And it's always the one same sentence 'I am God!!'... He, well its really worrying and I think I've been at a loss and then I finally remembered seeing this stuff on RU-vid before where its completely involuntary. But he doesn't usually do this. It's just been for about a day... Its pretty scary but I hope the psychiatrist can help him. All other doctors in emergency don't usually know how to help with this kind of thing. Neither do I.... Oh well. He will be alright 😔
I'm glad that you presented tics in this video. I am just starting to figure out my crap at 27 years old and so far I have ADHD but didn't know what my weird "nervous habits" were but now I think I do. I don't have any vocal tics but I have motor tics and I relate so much to your body language in this video. I'm going to ask my doctor about it because they are not general biting and tapping (ADHD ) tics. They are like clenching and grimacing and rolling my body parts in circles and fluttering my eyes, etc, etc. I always just thought they were anxiety! Do they get more intense as you age?
Thanks for this video. I have a really bad face tic more specifically my nose. I've had this tic all of my life and it has gotten worse. My tick is not only a motor movement but a sound as well and it drives me nuts. And like you I have a very hard time not doing this when I'm around people but most of the time it is an effort to just reducing it. I suspect that I do have Tourette Syndrome and need to get diagnosed. I was diagnosed in 2016 for Autistic Disorder. I want a real professional who can diagnose me, not a bunch of flunkies who base diagnoses on the DSM only.
their is a Doctor that makes a mouth piece that will not make u tic so much and possibly make them go away. I seen it on RU-vid. A young boy was ticking so bad and the Doctor made him that mouth piece and within a few hours they could tell a difference. Just keep your head up and God will help you.
Hello my name is PamSmileywheelzHall and I'm kinda of new to the Tic world. I believe I had a tic today and it last for 15 mins. It was hard to talk, and I was making this funny, noise. And my muscle was so tents. And it war me out, that I had to take a nap. How do you handle your tic or tremors.
I was diagnosed when I was very young, like 5 or 6 years old. My tics were also much worse as a kid and so it was pretty obvious just by looking at me that I had something going on.
@@MontanaPreston just curious because i started having a lot of facial, posture, neck tics about 9 years ago after trauma. It's so nice to watch your video and read everyone's comments and know there's other people out there like me. I never understood how i could control a tick from happening but would have to release it the moment I was by myself and if I held it for to long it would be 10 times worse. Its like a stretch i can never get. Once again thank you for sharing!!
