Nothing makes me happier than seeing people enjoy the best Mustangs that ever existed! I imported a 2020 GT500 into Romania (Europe) and it's basically a halo car here...the attention it gets is crazy, and the driving experience is like no other European car! Glad you enjoyed too fam!
You lucky dawg! I'm from India. We can't import left hand drive cars into the country anymore. Even if it were RHD, we can't have em unless Ford officially brings it here. They only sold the standard 5.0 S550 Mustangs here. 😒
I grew up in that area Sam. You were on Ocean Parkway, which back 20-30 yrs ago was a place people would go to do some high speed runs (mostly at night) and some street racing between Jones and Robert Moses State Parkways. It's cool that you guys went to All American for lunch. I haven't been there in years but it looks exactly the same as it has for decades. You need to get back there when it's warmer.
“American speed limits are quite slow” *proceeds to be passed immediately by 5 cars* 😂 maybe brits arent aware of the minimal 5mph over the speed limit rule
OMG You're on Long Island, I live here! Wish I could see you. Nice to see you stopped at All American! That hambrger spot's been around forever, my dad used to take me there.
I look at those early Shelbys like WWII fighters like Spitfires and Mustangs. Totally analog. Elemental. New cars are excellent day to day, but analog cars are going to have fan clubs for people who really want to engage with their cars. The car culture in the '60s and '70s in America was a blast, I had some great times cruising the strip on high school weekend nights, maybe picking up a race.
Officially, those are all 1st generation Mustangs you've described. The 1st gen of Mustangs went thru 1973. The GT350 and GT500 were each designed for different things. The 350 has always been the more track oriented car between the 2, while the 500 was more in your face, raw power. Still used on the track, but the 350 was generally the more successful track car. The 08 is from the 4th generation Mustang, but the first time the Shelby badge was used on it in decades. The Cobra moniker was used on the 2nd & 3rd generation Mustangs. Although the 2nd gens still carried the Shelby name alongside it. So, the 07-13 GT500s could be considered 2nd gen GT500s, but they were on the 4th gen Mustangs. And of course, the 2020 is the 5th gen Mustang, and the 3rd generation that received the GT500 moniker.
@stefangrubesic2708 you are definitely right. I'm not sure where my head was at when I wrote that. The S197 was indeed the 5th gen and S550 was 6th. Which means I need to also edit that the Cobra moniker was also used on 4th gen Mustangs. Not just 2nd and 3rd; and while the Cobra II was a tribute of sorts to the Shelby, I don't think it ever actually had the Shelby name like I originally thought.
2007 is where its at for me. Thats the heaven. The sweet spot. Very awesome you could share with us experiencing these great american muscle back to back.
Nice to see you here on LI. Been here for over 20yrs. Ocean Parkway is a nice drive with a classic. Nice to see you hit up All American too haha. Warmer weather is almost here!
Love your videos Sam! I once took the Mustang Bullit across the water from Ireland to Wales and then down to Caffeine & Machine for a few days. Incredible few days with the Mustang 😎
There's not as many young Americans that love muscle cars as previous generations, but I took delivery of my GT350 in the south (Nascar country) and I had people taking pictures and giving thumbs up the first day I drove it. The 2020 GT500 is such a cool car for $80kish (used market). I know a guy who had the 2020 with full exhaust and it literally is the loudest thing I have ever heard. The 350 is so good, so precise for a large car, I owned it and a WRX in Malibu and the 350 was way more fun in the hills.
My favourite muscle car! 😍 My uncle sold his 1965 black and red Fastback when he was in his 20s and still regrets it to this day in his 60s. My favourites will always be the 03-04 Terminator Cobra blacked out with Borla exhaust or the GT350R.
gotta say that the hate on the 2008 is not only undeserved, but undervalued. you went with a super snake which is excess over the normal Shelby of the year. could've done the same for the s550 generation and would have also came away with the feeling that it was too unruly etc. The "crap" interior of the S197 generation is also my favorite and I will stand by that.
10:48 Carol Shelby wanted one of his cars to achieve 200mph, before he died. . That is why you have that 08'... But no one was actually able to achieve that (outside Shelby/Ford claiming that they did)
Great video. The acceleration of the 67 Shelby was nothing short of shocking. What this must have felt like in period is just amazing. Warp speed comes to mind.
Still owning my 2008 Shelby GT500KR (King of the Road), I can tell you that to this day, no other car gives me such a visceral thrill. The engine (550ps), the close ratio Hurst shifter, etc.. nothing comes close!
Great video. Other viewers are right…you have to repeat this video with GT350’s! I wonder if those Mustangs were on summer tires. I use Michelin PS4S’s on my MKV Supra and once it gets too cold, it’s like driving on ice (the PS4S is better in cold than the older PSS). Based on how cold it looked that may be why those cars were getting loose with just a touch of the pedal. I live in Texas so it’s not worth putting all season tires on my cars but I’d do it in a heartbeat if I lived in NY or other parts up North.
Great video this because i’m a muscle car guy. The way you compare the super snake to a plane is exactly how I describe my Challenger Hellcat. If you are ever in Newcastle area you are more than welcome to have a go, mental on UK roads
Hey Sam, been watching your videos forever now and always look forward to them on Mondays (in NZ). However, I seem to miss them in my subscriptions feed, even when I actively look for them. I think you might want to change your thumbnails! Maybe some brighter colours or bigger/yellow text? Just a suggestion :)
That's awesome! Love seeing you driving some good ole American classics. Too bad they didn't have any Dodges! You didn't even mention Carrol Shelby's autograph in the 08! lol Cool to see you get out of your wheelhouse and drive some American muscle. But it was funny, once in the warehouse, all you could do was drool over those Porsches...LOL
Sam needs to get behind the wheel of an a Terminator Cobra. The original supercharged mustang. My favorite of the three in the video was the 1967 gt500.
3:00 The cars in the late 60s started to downplay their HP... For insurance and other reasons. . Thats why you'll see that the 426 Hemi and other big blocks will only say 400 hp etc.
I think you've missed the point of the 5th Gen Mustang (I guess you could call it the 2nd Gen Shelby Mustang, although it's never called that in Mustang circles). It was a throwback to a simpler time. Classic looks with ample power and a great noise. The chassis was never designed for 750hp of the Super Snake. It wasn't even designed for the "stock" 500hp of the GT500. But a V8/GT with a few chassis tweaks is a great car. Of course it won't hang with a European car on a twisty road, but who cares? And the interior may use cheap materials but the V8/GT was a $25k car new in 2005. That was about £18k!!!! The 5th Gen Mustang is just like those cheeseburgers. Would you find one on the menu in a fancy restaurant? Nope. But my goodness they taste good and hit the spot. Yeah, I own two of them. Here in the UK :)
The best driver’s Mustangs are not those - the best ones for driving are the GT350 and 2012/2013 Boss 302 (throw in the 69/70 Boss 302s if you want to add vintage vibe). These ones you’ve chosen (or had access to) are fast in a straight line, not so much on the twisties. Also that “2nd gen” you’re referring to is the 5th gen mate!
Sam in America they don't say manual transmission, they say four on the floor. So four-speed manually shifted when the gear lever comes up from the floor. Then when you have to shift gears with such an old American car, you put your left hand at twelve o'clock on the steering wheel, then you have better control over the car when shifting.
I think he's calling it a 2nd generation GT500. Which does feel a bit weird, because the GT500 is just a variant of the Mustang, and that's a 5th gen mustang.
@@LiqdPT that's what I thought to start with too, which felt weird as you say, but then that standard white convertible went past and he then called that a second gen which through me right off
@@bigdaveladprobably used because he's been calling the Supersnake a 2nd gen and (I doubt it was this calculated but) that car was the same gen and referring to it as a 5th gen wouldn't express that.
@@bigdavelad and as a canadian/American I had to actually look up what "gen" that 2008 car was. We don't usually refer to them that way (beyond the Mustang II), but by platform name or nickname.
