"I don't have anything planned today, so we're just going enjoy the day in the boxer and see what happens............. Welp... here I am, sitting in a Pagani Zonda 😅"
Its one of worst supercars for the price. You just can't skip billion dollars of development. Yep that is the money you need to spend to develop car like this. This one has tons of flaws that reviewers pretend that do not exist. Gent here funny enough talks around all the issues he clearly sees.
@@MisterMonsieur They were groundbreaking back in the 2000s. They are actually extremely well made. I went to the original factory years ago before they built the new one. They were the pioneers of the carbon technology most cars use now. Other manufacturers have since caught up making the zonda perhaps basic in some of its construction. But back when it was made no one had CNC parts on a road car, and almost no one was using carbon fibre prepreg. They have earned my respect even if they are abit outdated. I love the character of the car more than anything 😍
I think my favorite part of Sam's videos are both his cinematography and also how his intro monologues usually start off in the morning...grabbing coffee, chatting, etc. before the real content takes place. It gives a feeling of building up to what's to come. Great stuff!
Great bonus ep! At the Podium event last autumn I asked what car you were most desperate to drive that you hadn’t (apart from my Evora.. 😉) - you said Zonda no hesitation. Nice to see it happen 😎👍
The first video of yours that I've ever watched was the video on the fantasma Zonda. It was amazing to me and I've been as loyal of a fan as I can be. Great video as always. You keep killing it man!
I know mics can sometimes not do things justice, but whatever has been done to get that through regulations seems to have drastically changed how that V12 should sound.
@@mikestanley4457 in any case he would not know it. This car has gauge cluster that is from old Lancia Ypsilon. As a result rev gauge is not showing you actual engine speed while accelerating.
Having started watching you since the video with the pov from Passin's blue c12 and my shared love for the zonda this is just an amazing video to watch
What an epic experience! So happy for you. DK are my hero's for sure. Maybe if you were able to really push the car hard and open it up a bit more on a winding back road it would have been a bit more engaging. Love the Zonda! Nothing an aftermarket exhaust won't fix now that it's gone through federalization already.
I commend your honesty and transparency 👏🏼 Takes guts and integrity to tell the truth about things, matters, heck even people, that may not be what most perceive, hoped or imagined. Having said that, DAMN, you got to drive a Pagani Zonda 🙇🏻♂️
Glad you were able to have this amazing and rare experience 👌🏻🔥 4:04 loved those 2 revvs from you, in all honesty it sounded better than anything else in this video 😂👌🏻👏🏻
I was doing similar to you, driving down the main street and saw the two zondas, Nero and Arrivederci parked up in front of the Valkyrie and Valour. Got some pictures of them. Looked everywhere for the boxster but sadly no luck! So amazing you got to drive it, thank you for mid week video! Delightful
I used to go to London in 2013 and one day I found myself behind a C12 on the M4, it was so awesome and was resonating my cabin and teeth haha. I went 3x and twice I was "stuck" behind this C12s. IIRC the plate was M1XXY or something like that. Will never forget how insane it sounded/felt.
On the first weekend of car week, before most folks arrive, there was a cool low rider show at the coffee shop you went to at the start of the video. The paint jobs were incredible.
those 2 are worlds apart from each other. Zonda is a kit car. Nothing actually works properly. Mercedes engine, xtrac gearbox (i think), Lancia Ypsilon gauge cluster, wonky brakes. You just don't skip decades of experience and billions in development and create proper car by accident. Still cool car just not a proper one.
Always wanted to drive a Zonda, so thanks for uploading this one and thanks to DK for giving you the keys. Loved the sign off.... did you chase the LAF owner to see if he would give you the keys??
If I remember right, Harry said the running costs are astronomical if he wanted to do any sort of real mileage in it. It was preventing him from driving/owning other more useable cars that he could get more miles out of.
Zonda is so cool. I remember when it came out and my mind just exploded. Too bad to hear you didn't really like driving it. However, everything from the brand is supposed to be like that. You aren't getting the pinnacle of performance you are getting a drivable art piece
@@UKBUILT actually they don't. That engine was specifically build to not have character. It was supposed to be drivable/predictable. On top of that US regulation compliant exhaust probably robbed it of its best feature - sound.
@@hagestad The Mercedes m120 V12 was designed for effortless torque in the Big heavy 90s S-Class. Merc built it to rival BMW. At the time it was all about massive engines. It's not a high reving engine but it's built like a tank. With the right exhaust it's a fantastic engine for a supercar. I am using one for my build 😎 the first time we started mine up open headers it was crazy, it sounded like a beast 💪
Thank you Sam! Really appreciate a mid-week upload and this concise video format. Love the scenery and maybe go live in the USA for a year, experience it with the family. Thanks, a cool video ☺

At this point, almost every Zonda is a one-off spec. Also, the Zonda C12 aka the first og Zonda from the late 1990's had a 6.0L M120 V12 from AMG, then there was a Zonda S with the same engine but displacement was increased to 7.0L and then there was the Zonda S 7.3 again same engine but displacement increased to 7.3L, a roadster was introduced based on the Zonda S 7.3 but was dubbed the Zonda Roadster S. With the debut of the Zonda F, a new AMG M297 V12 engine with 7.3L displacement was introduced and it's powering all the newer Zonda's.
That "new" M297 engine was actually used in the clk gtr road cars, they even bored it to 7.3 for the clk gtr supersport In 1997 before the Zonda even existed Pagani did start with the old M120 6.0, then the 7.0 and finally 7.3 then made switch to the M297 with the Zonda F. But it was not a "new" engine or codename. Also the M120 in 6.0 , 7.0 & 7.3 form were available in the R129 SL 600 , 70 AMG & rare 73 AMGs in the 90s. As well as the S Class & CL/ S Coupe
Yea it staggers me how Pagani can sell the same car twice. They'll sell a C12 from the 90s, then tart it up three decades later and sell it again hahah
@@CB21001 The one's that you see getting unveiled recently or in the last 10 years or so are just being recommissioned upon the request of their customers as they want a one off spec, Pagani has ended production of the Zonda in 2011 or 2012 but they will upgrade their customer's cars to a more modern spec if they request Pagani.
Look at how common it is for old cars to go through restomod etc.. Old 964 carrera being turned into a singer/ tuthill/ GW That Diablo that's been seen recently too Canepa with the 959 too Are u honestly saying that U wouldn't love to see Ferrari or Lambo do this officially Imagine an 800bhp modernised F50 fresh out the factory today Or if Mclaren busted out an old F1 chassis and did this treatment I'd think it would break the internet
There are several halo cars that one can only dream of. For me the reason to want one of them it’s usually about the historic relevance, the engineering or the driving experience. A 250 SWB, F50, LaF Aperta, Carrera GT, CC850, Gemera, the Tourbillon etc. Every one of them you’d have to be insanely healthy to own, yes. But it’s never about the status. However, the Zonda I think encapsulates the epitome of the hypercar. It’s what the others are and more. It’s the Mona Lisa for the road. It’s the only hypercar I’d want to get as the ultimate indulgence. It’s the point when you’re driving and realize “yep, I’m a billionaire. And this is the peak of the internal combustion engine vehicle for me.”
I have driven an euro spec Zonda F (well two infact), and they are definitely nothing like you describe here. The sound is absolutely gorgeous with magic thunder on the overrun . It is very much a brother of the Ferrari F50. If you have driven that. You need the proper exhaust and some European roads to get the real Zonda feel. It will deliver. :)
Never been as excited to see a main channel video, impressive. Also what do you think of the cc850, the white on white one? it looks too good for some reason with the classic lines, I am afraid to say it looks better than the main italian designs.
I don’t know what it’s like to drive, but I was obnoxiously tailgated by a gorgeous example (rose-gold I suppose, or a tad “copper”) driving to my sister’s house yesterday. It’s a conflict as I love the Zonda but hate this dude lol I’ve seen him several times. Will add it’s a single lane rd, double yellow line & a speed limit of 35…I was doing already going 50🙄🤷🏻♂️ -Just found your channel, it’s fantastic. Cheers
The F is an all time favourite car of mine & I think that’s part of the reason the Huayra does very little for me… I would say that you can’t expect to get the full experience from a 1 of 1 car as it will have been tailored to the owner & they may not have wanted that symphony constantly from the v12 (rich peoples problems)
Went to Car week with some friends, on the way out we took a wrong turn and ended up spotting this car getting detailed in the driveway of a house. Pulled over right away and asked the DK Engineering guys if we could take pictures, they were super cool and let us do our thing, as we left they even gave us some of their hats for all of us. All from a wrong turn haha.
