Yikes. Alright, while I am enjoying the algorithm boost from all the comments, I feel I need to clear some things up. The first two-thirds of this video is not a review. It's just a documentation of my experience learning to use the camera. The only "review" portion of the video is the section labeled "review" from 12:58 to 22:24. Over a month later, I still stand by everything I said in that section because, well, it's mostly objective and clearly demonstrated. Reading the instructions will not change the fact that you need the app to use this camera, it won't take the ads out of the app, it won't make the output files a non-proprietary codec, and it won't take away the devices' input lag. If those things don't bother you or you don't experience some of those issues, then great! No need to mind me. I'd also like to point out that I concluded that I liked the camera. I just wish the footage was a little easier to work with as someone who doesn't want to edit their entire video in the insta360 app. Anyways, I typed this from about 4 ft. away from my keyboard using my long, long fingernails. You know, like the one girls have. Peace ✌

I’ve got the One X2 & feel like half your complaints could have been avoided by reading the instructions before using it. You do make some good points though. Insta360 have made some great improvements with the desktop software (I’ve got both Windows & Mac PC’s). That Insta360 branding on the videos got me though, every time you export on a new device you have to disable the ‘filmed on…’ logo. I would like a higher frame rate (60fps at 5k) just so I could slow it down & keep the res to get some nice cinematical shots. The slow mo kinda morphs the frames together which looks weird
Finally someone said about cons of the camera honestly. And funny actions of frustration made me laugh. I think most dislikes is because people didn't watch the video until the end, if they did, they would've liked it.
Don’t buy a @insta360 I bought one for my travel to Europe and 6 days after buying it both lenses got scratched, the videos look horrible, THIS IS NOT AN ACTION CAMERA!!! buy a GoPro, believe me! You can write to me if you need more info but as a customer don’t buy this!!! A cellphone camera lasts much more than the insta 360; the solution they gave me is to pay $198 dollars to replace them and I didn’t even had a month with the camera … buy a go pro or any other but not this one!

I am quite new on any actions cam so I was looking for the x2 just for the easiest way to catch all angles of view . Before I ll return the GoPro I am catching up with the like and unlikes of both of them
Who shoots 25fps? Anyone living in the 2/3 of the world that has 50Hz electricity supplies (all of Europe, 99% of Africa, all of Oceania, most of Asia, and Argentina & Chile). Using 24fps in these regions results in flicker for lights powered by mains electricity. Anyway, good to see your first impressions of the Insta360 One X2 and some early footage. It definitely would be handy for a lot of situations that other cams can't reproduce. You're the first to point out some of the annoying aspects of the app - good to know.
i don't have any problems with the app. Yes, i use the pc software and i use a card reader for the import. Workflow is also no big deal. I make the effects with the insta software and the final cut with powerdirector. Works good for me. The real issues are, - you can not by an extra battery pack...not available since last year. - you can not update the remote firmware with android (for most androids...i tried samsung s5, xiaomi mi 9se..sony...android on pc ) - the lens guards have stiching problems.
I REALLY liked this video. I mean, I’m still planning to buy the camera, because I really like the idea of being able to document experiences without looking at a screen. I haven’t been shooting a lot of iPhone videos because I’ve come to prefer to experience the great things in my life directly, instead of seeing them through a viewfinder. A camera that you can just hold and ignore (and then frame the video later in post) sounds awesome. However, it’s great to go into the experience knowing the device’s warts and foibles. Too many “reviews” just give you a list of features without actually talking about the user experience. I hope the negative comments here don’t discourage Richard from covering other devices this way. I’m subscribing.
Haiiii! Just to tell you, the bulk export feature that you wanted when exporting is available! On the album section, at the upper right corner, there's a 3 bar line for you to click. I agree that it's frustrating. But as a poor individual, I really held on to the fact that a stuff this pricey and complicated should be thorough enough to put such a simple feature on their convoluted app 😂. But it really helped me out big time instead of doing it one by one. Hope this helps, love your videos, keep em coming! 🔥
This was the most obnoxious review on the one x2 i've seen so far. Simply doing research on what's needed and reading instructions could have solved most of your frustrations.
I agree 100%. I knew I was in for a rollercoaster when he used an ice cream scooper instead of a knife to open a box. Keeping the fidget spinner and Pokémon in frame was another red flag. Why get frustrated because you didn’t bother to buy a memory card for your new camera? Why get frustrated because you bought the wrong stick? Turning off water mark is really difficult? User error and big complainer.

Yep. All of this. And because ya asked nicely.. .here's your comment. I grabbed this towards the first of the year 2021. I used it a few times at a convention and then it got put away. I've since forgotten how to do some of the things but I did get a Ipad pro. I'm hoping to use that as a editing device. I happened across your video because it was newer. You pretty much named a lot of my frustrations even after I had watched weeks of videos before my purchase. I'm still going to continue to try and make it work for me though.
i disliked the video but then i took it back when you said you are one of the normal people that won't stick a camera into someone's face while talking. Respect

I’ve seen a lot of awesome videos done with this camera. You need to chill out and learn the curve. You’ve been used to certain programs and apps and your brain isn’t accepting a new program. Chill and work with the flow. It’ll be fine. Absolutely great possibilities with this camera.
He's a noob with it and you could argue shouldv'e read the instructions/watched tutorials but honestly I don't do that junk right away. Take the toy out the box play with it then learn what can't be figured out. Sounds like they need serious work on the UX here and the app being 3 apps 2 of which you don't want being crammed into one is unaceptable nonsense. You ain't gonna ever be a social platform insta, quit wasting resources(company/and my phones) and making your UX suck more. I mean seriously a push notification right away? dude just bought one of you flagship devices maybe pump the brakes on the hard sale. Push notifications in general should be coming from this app except maybe a hey you left your cammera on notification. Makes it seem like china spyware bloat garbage and honestly this makes me not want to buy the device and has me leaning gopro now.

I have to say, I have this camera and I love it, however, I have tried the Gopro 360 MAX, and IMO while the exporting is easier the rest of the experience is even worse. The app is laggier and you have to download all footage to your phone before you can do any editing. So at the end of the day I prefer the form factor and the editing abilites of the OneX2 over Gopro MAX, and now I just need to get over the learning to edit frustrations for 360 video.
I have the X2 and the desktop workflow is edit the clip you want on the desktop app and then move it to your favorite editor software. dont use the usb, use an adaptor for the SD card to usb. I hAVE noticed something familiar about your video......

Thank you for a very instructive film. I recently bought an insta360 go 2 and that had me cursing a lot and for similar reasons to your experience here! But I've concluded (with the Go 2) that it does certain things well enough to put up with its 'quirks', which is why I was interested in getting the camera you reviewed. I think I'll chew over your experience a bit more before I decide. So thank you, very grateful and I've subscribed. 👍
About the exporting, if you leave the export screen it will abort the export, it does not work in the background so you have to stay on this screen until it finish Also, for some reason, it really makes the iPhone hot enough while exporting to lower the brightness of the phone
Ok bro just got this thing the other day used it yesterday. Worked out fine. Did not encounter the same problems that you had. But I certainly watched about 3 hours of video about it lol
I'm 3 hours into still trying to connect to my new camera. Brand new the camera won't record until it's been 'activated' and I learned that the hard way trying to use my new camera on location at the shoot for the first time. I still haven't been able to connect to the camera.. thanks for the video. At least I feel like it's not just me.

I had a plan to buy insta360 one OX2 for my Himalayan trip, you mentioned about it require an internet signal for connectivity, Himalayan is one the worst places in our planet in term of internet signals
Rad vid, cool shots! You spoke your mind on the subject and that's what matters. These cameras may be cool and trendy (gimmicky!), but the ease of use, whether it's the hardware or the app, remains counterintuitive.

i just bought the same camera . . . made a video as well . . . and i dont know but for me the app is like okay . . . even editing on pc or mac is okay for me but it takes soooooooooo long even a short video takes forever to edit but this camera is still good somehow not the best image quality sound is better then i thought and the fact that its recording everything is just so good oh and btw to connect it to the app i mean activate it . . . it was not working for me at all i spend 3 hours with it and then i found out that i need to take off the battery then put it back while the app is opened already so yeah good little camera with a lot of frustration . . . at least on the beggining

I just downloaded the app to check it out before i buy the camera in a month.. Now I'm sceptical because the app was a complete clusterfuck of different tabs and social media shit content. There was even an inapp virtual coin store for lootboxes... fkn hell what a mess!!
The most realistic review I've seen about this camera! Today I received the camera and learned 99.9% of review videos on RU-vid are just commercial ads. The app sucks! The quality when it comes to a normal shot without fisheye or ultrawide sucks and in the end buttons UX is not as nice as devices like DJI or other DSLR cameras. Just returned the whole package to Amazon!

You really did everyone a favor here. I really wish I would have found you and watched this before I bought the damn Creator kit. With that being said does anybody want to buy my Creator kit? Just needed to say thanks mate :-) A genuine straight shooting video about the pros and cons. I laughed along at certain parts cause I could relate to your frustrations and camera idiosyncrasies. So I just captured a hike and bike ride. Now I gotta learn the whole post edit thing in Insta360 studio then another app to produce a final cut. What would we do without RU-vid?

I just bought this for the “low friction”. I was already annoyed with the 25 and 50 frame rates. I also had similar frustrations with connecting the app to the camera. I won’t be using this for clip inserts for cinematic videos. It’s more a family camera (replacing my GoPro Hero 3+) we do a lot of home videos that don’t get posted to the web. I almost sent it back as I just opened it today and there’s that there was no 60fps. I think I’m going to hang on to it, because with 4 kids I need all the coverage.. lol. This was a great review and definitely did not deserve that many down votes. I wish you the best of luck with your channel. You added appropriate humor and I could not help but laugh because I have no idea what to do with my camera until I came across this video. The learning curve reminders reduced a lot of my, oh I should not have bought this camera. I hope you will a video on editing and adding banners etc.
hi Richard .. tQ for ur video - I love the honesty. I once had the one-X-1. Sold it because it worked only with high end Android phones - I can't be buying an iPhone just for one-X-1. I guess I would have problems with one-X-2 too .. again, I love your presentation - thumbs up n subscribed - from Malaysia. You should edit out the first 13 minutes OUT of this video. It was pure painful. I actually closed out of it and was somehow lead to our pinned comment that made me finish the video. Still, Total painful…. First, You should have purchased the bundle with the selfie stick, tripod and memory card included (barely more money totally worth it). Second, read the quick start guide and a majority of your issues would have been resolved. Lastly, this is a 360 camera. A totally different camera experience so you should expect a learning curve. Learn it, and it’s great.
I have had the camera for a fortnight and have the same ambivalent impression. Moreover, the beeps are so ambiguous that I can never remember whether I have just stopped or started or whether the camera has confirmed the storage. Editing in the app is not my thing. Why are the functions in the Studio software so limited? Like you said, it's hard to explain and it could be so simple. Thanks for the video, it showed me I'm not alone
The studio app is a poor stepchild of the phone app. As though they could not rustle up a team of software folks to work on it, all the cool jobs were in the app software design!
I've bought the same camera in recent weeks, and experienced some of the same early frustrations you did. I was aware of it beforehand though, so I guess that makes it a bit easier. I knew the extra workflow to reframe and export footage before I could use it, and knew it would add more time to the process. Boy it does. My other frustration is with SD cards. I bought a new one, from their compatibility list, and I still have to reformat it every few days because it stops recording with "slow SD card" errors or something. I also get the issue where the phone and camera lose connection while I'm editing a clip. Only way to resolve it is to turn the camera off and on again, and sometimes you've lost all the reframing edits you've done which is frustrating. But it's worth it for the cool shots, angles, panning and effects you can get that you can't with a regular action camera, which suits me for my cycling videos. The fact is though, there's a learning curve involved that there isn't really with say a Gopro. It's not harsh to point that out.
A few more weeks on, I am finding the workflow a deterrent to putting videos together. And the quality of the clips exported from the mobile app are not great. Grainy and stuff, even at highest bitrate and remove grain checked. It's better from their desktop app. I love what it can do, but I do prefer the simplicity of traditional video - film your material, trim your clips. Edit away.

Advertisements got me .... Then frustrations because hooking with android isn't friendly. Hopefully I can climb the ladder. What phone you using??? Supposedly they're user friendly with iphone or iPad
And for the codec… you just change the extension in .mp4 You can try by playing the files in a video player. Most will play the file even without changing the extension. Each video is composed out of two files from the two cameras.

I thought i was the only one having a hard time getting used to the flow of this camera, on top of that i need it to work with the Matterport Capture app and the files just keep corrupting. :p
To me it was more like a learning curve and yes you are right the app sucks, I have found that if you use the computer editing Insta360 program is a lot better and faster for editing also just take the SIM card out.

This is the only video that touches on how much of a fiddly mess the UI experience is. If I didn't really want the 360 videos this thing can do, I would have resold it already

I do all on my videos on FCP. You need ONE addition step only and that is the creative and funny part, reframing in the Insta studio app on your computer. That works great and is easy.
Thanks for posting. Many of the videos on RU-vid make it all look so simple! If nothing else, you have identified that there is a steep learning curve. Hopefully some of your concerns about the app will be addressed in the light of the number of 1st time 360 camera users this camera is attracting.
