The concept of this subscription inspires such incredible rage in me. it’s an abuse.

Big nope on the subscription from me. Easily doubling the already pricy cost over the lifetime of the product. Plus if they ever go out of business then say bye to all the features.

Don't reward these companies who ruin a product if you don't pay them monthly. Don't buy their products.

i was about 80% sure i was going to buy one before i learned about the subscription model. now i hope the company goes out of business.

They really would make more money if they just changed the price of mattress from 2500 to 3000. And no subscription. That would cover almost 3 years of their monthly revenue. And they would sell more because very few people want to deal with a subscription to a product they already own.

I looked into getting one of these, but then noped out when I saw the subscription. As soon as I saw this video’s title, I knew what the infuriating part was.

The subscription is a complete dealbreaker.

My roommate has one of these and swears by it. It sounded great and I was really interested, especially since my room is upstairs and in the summer it can get very hot, even with register fans and a ceiling fan. Shortly after he purchased it, they instituted the membership and there's now no chance I'd ever consider one. I'm not paying a subscription for my bed.

the fact that i would much rather buy it second hand, completely scrap the unit, and then homebrew it myself should go to show what i think about the subscription.

going down through the comment section already shows how people are willing to pay for such an expensive product yet everyone simply backs out after that subscription model. I was excited to get one of these but it's just offensive. subscription makes this product really variable in the long run. they can increase the prices after purchase and all these features could also be taken away from you if they decide to change the ToS. idk man. just wonder how many of these they aren't selling cause of that sub.

This would be great for renters or areas with insane summers to keep electricity costs down. I know as a renter, window AC units just can't out pace the summer heat. But a big clear NOPE on the subscription. I also don't like that there's no manual hardware settings. I cannot stand the idea of another "tracker" just for them to profit off my personal habits. Who knows how much they're selling that data for.

You popped up in the top few and I’m so glad you told an honest opinion. I didn’t know anything about this autopilot thing. Yeah, it turned me off. I can afford it but I detest subscriptions. Maybe I’ll change my mind but currently I sleep with zero covers. I sleep covered in a sheet instead. I like it cold. It helps me sleep. However, because I have sleep apnea I don’t sleep in the same room as the wifey and if I buy one, I’d have to buy 2! Awww hell no!

Something fair to justify the subscription would be to make a huge drop to the matress cover price. That way you get as many people as possible into your ecosystem and have them use the subscription model. But paying almost 3k in order to even have the product and then paying them monthly that is simply a robbery

I never thought thibgs would get so dystopian people are willingly buying a fucking mattress with a subscription. Even with a gun to my head, you couldn't get me to continue those antivirus subscriptions for the computer or any other subscription for that matter.

Finally an honest review. Many of the others are paid off to say I love the subscription. I hate to say this but I can't wait until the copycats make an almost identical product. Tesla gives you most things their model makes sense this model does not. The mattress you get is not that good it's only the pad I want. To bad for them they have basically lost 5 sales just from me and maybe 10 more because I talk badly about them and their model. 8sleep stop being too greedy. Chill the product is good it will sell!

At least they left if wide open for competition to come in and offer a realistic price for what this is. Just a small water chiller connected to a pad with tubes. Hard to rationalize even 1k for this

I never went from credit card in hand to blocking a domain faster than with this product.

Alot of us own our beds for 10+ years and they want you to keep flipping your beds for new products every 5 years. I'm sure they can program it to fault if they wanted to during the common times you're not in the bed.

For half the price of a matress cover i could just install a heat pump, which uses less power and has the cabibilitu to actualy lower the entire room temp The matress cover cannnot go below the room temp

How does it loose water??? Isn’t it a closed system? The only way it should loose water if it has some sort if humidifier function but you said it only needs a top off every few months so it can’t be that… Inquiring minds want to know!

Seems like it costs a lot to uphold that 5 year warranty, that's maybe why the subscription fee is there also. People *ucking and *ucking on such a thin piece of cloth carrying water, what can go wrong? Can't they just use biomarkers to notice action and reduce the warranty for those who can't use the bed for what its supposed to be used for sleexping. The easier and cheaper option for bed cooling I think, would be to hook up some tubes with holes in them into the mattress topper and airate the mattress. Heck the air system probably could be put under the mattress topping and still give enough cooling... No water, easy maintenance, less bacteria due to a dry bed. But you cannot heat the bed, but I think for most people getting a cooler bed is more important

I have the first generation. I have had it for almost 4 years and the pod pc is going bad. It costs 500 bucks and a subscription now. First generation didnt require a subscruption and has all the perks of the subscritions now including smart pilot alarm etc....

I bought this super expensive mattress and it's been just over one year and the hub stopped working. I've contacted support but it's very very very frustrating so far because they have been zero help. I wouldn't recommend this mattress to anyone.

Interviewed with 8 Sleep was more than qualified for the job even though it was low-paying. Made it through 9 interviews. Entire company was essentially CEO worship and as soon as I met with the CEI was clear he was not interested in me because of my weight. He kept stressing it was a fitness company and that someone would need to be a "representative" of that. Definitely would not recommend if you choose to spend your money with reputable people.
