I spent 12 years as an Air Force firefighter. 1998 to 2010. I really like the way you explain things. I recently retired about nine months ago. And I’ll never forget the 12 years I spent as a firefighter. It was an amazing time.

Tyrone's INC. there are times where we are involved with convoys. Usually if something bigger happens just off base. You also will be required to be armed at some locations. So it is always more in a support effort rather than direct “combat”

Great job!! Well done as well! I wish youtube was around when I grew up. I spent 13 years( 1987-1999) in USAF as a Firefighter and finally retired from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. I was able to do all of the because of USAF Fire Protection. I was almost over qualified due to all the training and certifications. And I was able to travel the entire world at the same time. Lots of fun and a great lifestyle.. Lol I also spend my career on Truck 1 and Truck 3( Hazmat Team),100foot ladders..

I really appreciated the wealth of information in this vlog, it will allow me to help some of the young men and women here in my community to consider either becoming a firefighter or sign up for the military. There are not a lot of examples or educational videos on the process of becoming a military member or either how to go about doing it, so this is a good informational video along with the dorm tour that I can use to help some of the young men and women here in this small town community. Thanks a lot son I greatly appreciate it. Keep up the amazing and awesome work... you already know that I am proud of you X 100!!! 🤙😘

Hey man quick question, first of all nice video 👍. Second of all I really really REALLY want fire protection. But they told me I have to put 10 jobs down in my sheet for meps. Is this true? Because I really want like 3 jobs but mainly fire protection. In meps how many jobs do you have to choose ?? And my recruiter said I need to put open general as well as one of my options. Is this true? And thanks again for the video
@positivitytravels
@positivitytravels 5 лет назад
Thanks dude! That means alot! So you DO NOT have to put down open general. If you want to go in asap, you can do that, but that will place you in any job, most likely security forces or something you wont like, which I highly discourage you do. You might have to wait awhile for a slot to open up, but, this is your career and you'll be in it for awhile, so consider your happiness. You do have to put down 10 jobs though. Since fire is your number one choice, put that first, then so on. They should have a list of jobs there. Research the jobs because, not all, but some recruiters lie about details of the job, trying to get you to sign the contract asap. So glad I can help you dawg, Hope everything works out!! 🤙🏽😎🚒

That’s awesome! With this job we work shifts. 24 hours at the fire station, and 24 hours off or away from the station. A straight forward answer would be every other day. BUT, this job has after hours or down time. Meaning, during your shift, after work is complete, your family is more than welcome to visit you at work to have dinner, play games, watch movies, and spend time with you. You will still have to respond to emergencies so your family will be just waiting at the station for you to return, but overall, you’ll see your family everyday if they come to the station to see you at work.

No problem at all! The trainings becoming a firefighter is probably the toughest part of confines space. Thought out your career, you’ll have training in tight spaces but it’s more like underground places like manholes where it’s HUGE underground. “Confined space” is just working in a less spacious environment. That's awesome you already know what you want to do!!! My advice would be to get a on a good workout routine and talk to a recruiter. The recruiter will let you know everything you need to do. I would also continue to research details about fire protection so you'll know what you are getting into.

@positivitytravels

They might increase the score to get into fire protection, so I would study everything to get a high score. I would ask the recruiter questions like, what is life like in the air force, living conditions, schooling, the best study guide to study for the asvab, anything pertaining to BMT... things like that. It's a different life in the air force so think of the things important to you and ask the recruiter how those things will be affected once you join. Hope I could help.

I’m 31 with a bachelors degree and want to be a career firefighter. At this age would it be wise for me to enlist to be a ff in the af or should I just apply to the local fire departments? I like to travel so I was entertaining the idea of being a civilian DoD firefighter. Do you know any DoD firefighters? How do they like it?
@positivitytravels
@positivitytravels 4 месяца назад
I knew a bunch of DoD firefighters and they absolutely love it over being enlisted. You have a bachelors too so you’d be deemed more valuable and the military would want you to commission to be an officer. They unfortunately don’t have firefighter jobs for officers. @picco4183
@picco4183 4 года назад
So I'm considering joining the Air Force as a firefighter, and I'm wondering if you get an EMT certification from tech school or through your training and if you do get an EMT certification is it transferable to civilian life? Also, could you go to school for a paramedic certification while being a firefighter in the Air Force? I know it takes a lot more hours to obtain a paramedic certification so one may not be able to go through the schooling for the certification while working.
@positivitytravels
@positivitytravels 4 года назад
All certifications you obtain as an Air Force firefighter can be carried over to civilian life. After tech school, you'll be sent to your first duty station where you'll be considered a 3 level (normal firefighter). Once you're there, you have to complete your 5 level upgrade training ( Driver Operator), which is just on the job training. The air force offers EMT classes along with other special classes like Hazmat Technician and Rescue technician which last for a week. BUT in order to be selected for these classes, you need to have your 5 level complete. If you're on top of this, it can be done in 3 months. As far as a Paramedic certification goes, yes, you can go to school to obtain it. It'll be tough, but you'll just have to let your work know you want to chase a paramedic cert, and you have to let your school know you're a firefighter who works a tough schedule. They both should be able to work around it. Just remember, in the Air Force, the mission or your job comes first. So if you decide to join, get that 5 level and grind! Thanks for the comment!

That is true. At meps you have to list 10 jobs you desire to have. It's been awhile since i've been, so I don't remember if they give you a list of open jobs, or just air force jobs as a whole to choose from. But Fire protection was one of my choices and I waited a long while for it to open up and was blessed with it. From my understanding, you don't have to sign the contract they offer you if you don't want it. Wait for the one you want (fire) and then sign. A recruiter should know of this. I went to a recruiting office in Virginia. If you don't trust any information your recruiters are telling you, call another location in a different state (location) and verify the information they're telling you by comparing it to what your recruiter said. As of now, if you havent already, study and ace the asvab. Hopefully I helped you dawg. Let me know how everything goes!

Unlike some of my friend who was also rushed in as open general. When your husband is able to cross train, DO IT! Like ASAP! 🤙🏽 Maybe the recruiter meant there weren’t any slots open at the moment.
