What will happen if Malaysia closes the bridges and the supplies stop? I remember when they wouldn't renew the water supply contract and Singapore had to turn to the sea. Malaysia is sometimes jealous of what Singapore has done over the years. They probably think Chinese people belong in China not in Singapore or Malaysia. I loved it in Singapore when I visited. Monaco has a population of 23,305 in1966 and it's primary exports are FOOD SURPLUSES and has a land area of 499 acres, 1.974 km (0.762 sq mi). It uses French intensive gardening-farming techniques. Add rock dust powders to increase yields by 4 times and add biochar to further increase it again by 880% or 8.8 times and use soil-based vertical agriculture combined with anti-pesticidal and anti-diseases companion plants and you can get an idea how much more food can be produced and combine it with Permaculture's system of water recycling and reuse and including that of Solar-Aquacells and others of complete food chain cycle of reuse, then fertility is maintained indefinitely and water is recycled and reused indefinitely. And combine that with rain water harvesting and separate storm drainage systems networks and water security is assured.

First of all, most food we consumed are considered income normal goods. This means that there are readily available substitutes. And for the general population, disposable income almost certainly never grow as fast as inflation. How many of us actually have the benefit of an annual salary increment to match the inflation? The business goal is always to maximize profits, while the consumers goal is to minimize expenditure. So if the business cannot achieve allocative efficiency, then consumers will naturally seek alternative sources. So how can you always expect the general population to pay more to support local produce?

The taste of vegetables grown from these setups will likely not be the same as those grown naturally overseas. The taste of the food, especially vegetables, usually takes after the water source. Some argue that using processed water does not help with the taste. The toxicity of farmed fish (due to what they are fed) is also frequently debated. However, whether or not local produce tastes nicer is a subjective matter. Unless they can take the price of local produce a notch lower than imports, it will be hardly viable for such business in the long run. P.S. Imported fresh produce cost can be ALOT lower if imports from Southern Thailand by transport via West Malaysia Highway was not blocked by the Malaysian Govt. Just take a trip to Hat Yai one day if you don't believe. Without protectionism, I am not sure how are local produce gonna compete.
