What its like to be Homeless

College kids are the worst kind of human beings. When I was doing my undergraduate at the University of Cape Town(10 years ago), I used to hear stories from the homeless around the university of how the university students treated them like crap.

Everyone goes to cemeteries in the dark where I'm from. It's a great place to hide out. I wish it was empty. I go often and have constant visitors or by the time I get there some other party is there.

Homeless guy saved my life. I gave him my umbrella cuz it was raining and he smiled at me and said thank u and something about his smile saved me that day.

Same. I'm 25. I was 18-21ish when I was homeless. It was definitely an interesting experience. Best advice I can give is keep your head down, get in as many programs as possible that can get you certification, and temp agencies can be your best friend for work.

Ryan Cole some time it's the only thing u can find when your down and out were all just a pay check away anyone can be next you pick your self and move forward or lay down and die the streets are hard but there is those who didn't have a option

@@7th.Street Yes. The nomadic lifestyle has given me tremendous benefits. I have accumulated a good nest egg, and life is much simpler and less stressful. I do not see myself going to a traditional living situation anytime soon, although I might build a tiny house in cash

@Kiowa BlackWolf It depends on what you consider "homeless." Technically if you don't live in an apartment or house or similar situation, you're homeless by definition.

@BeerGod 40oz I am in Sydney Australia, and since the election have consumed at least 5-6 hours of US politics per day, largely TYT, D Packman, Damage Report and such, along with Racheal Maddow et al + some newsmax and fox to see what the idiots are up to, so I have an understanding of US in general. The deep divide between red and blue in the US is scary, republican lie mongering is actually gaining traction even though most of the brainwashed are far removed from the actual interests and money that shore up the interests of the far right. Even when we see the occasional politician or a court in some state that signals a need to actually focus and remedy homelessness, it more than often falls on deaf ears. Wasn't it only recently in California that a court clearly stated what needs to be done? What saddens many of us the most, is that far too often, we see footage of people blithely walking past past people in need. I recall one youtube video of a guy offering "free money", a rich guy not only snatched the bundle of bills but essentially told the guy to fuck off or violence would ensure, he repeated this again with homeless people, and they said if he could spare a few dollars they would be overjoyed, not a single one asked for the whole bundle (a hundred dollars). Easy to say that faith in humanity will prevail eventually, but when you see what Trump provoked Jan 6th, the fact republicans will block anything BIden does, and the very real voter suppression bills, is it any wonder many of us outside the US see full blown civil war and authoritarianism as a real possibility? I am sure a few times in my life I have walked by someone in need and not cared or realized, but I am thankful that I can be touched and have done in my time many things to remedy the equation, yet still, I am fearful that society can fall yet further, it has happened before. I do not believe in God, so leave that out, I do hope that somehow the majority of Americans remember that surely our angels do have a better part. No one ever deserved to be homeless, not a single one of them ever chose such a condition I am sure.

Well, I got a job. Getting a job in Canada is fucking easy dude... I was homeless for 7 years, and the day I decided I wanted a job, I got a job. Its that simple. People are just lazy and very stupid if they cant get jobs. I was lazy and thats the reason I was homeless for 7 years... I enjoyed every year, it was fun, I traveled everywhere. One day I decided it was enough and so I use the programs that the government created for homeless people and got a job.

HoboTango it isn't that easy here in America... if you don't have an address they won't hire you

Money isn't the problem. It feels like it but it isn't. The problem is people. We need a way to assign values to things (like money). All systems without money have failed way worse than this b/c no body knows what anything's worth. Are your gloves worth my ten cigarettes? IDK? Can you buy food with the ten cigarettes I give you? No, the food owner doesn't accept cigarettes as payment? then I guess you won't take my 10 cigarettes for nice warm gloves that keep my hands from getting frost-bitten. The alternative is, here's a piece of paper that has the same value wherever you go for the pair of gloves I need to survive. The problem isn't from money. It's from the love of money over the values of peoples' character. If you have no character, then money will be all your want in life. Instead of caring for your neighbors or friends, you're looking to get rich.

The funny part is most of those people don't care about God or Jesus ! They are sacrilegious, hypocrites ! The people that run the shelters look at you as money-(Because all the homeless that enter are income to them . The gov. pays them for allowing you to stay.) In my life, I have met almost no people that "Claim " to be Christian, be "Saved" , that Actually are ! They are the biggest phoneys ! Fake people are the ones that will Burn in Hell Forever

+Viralvector Of course the problem of homelessness is fixable, it is just a political question of weather or not society wants the government to fix it. And in a capitalist system the government is the only one who actually can fix homelessness, and the government fix it with a universal welfare state. Private charities and self-help and so and and so forth are no way near getting as good results as welfare states.

Facts !! A lot of homeless people are addicted to drugs, or have mental problems. We have choices on how we what to live our life. 😊

With out a work history, or rent history it becomes nearly impossible to find a place or job.

How'd you get there?

I was homeless in stockton and Sacramento CA
