I asked Japanese people about Donald Trump. I also asked them about the Japan--US security treaty because it would directly affect Japan if Trump was elected.

because instead of thinking people instantly decide he's hitler or he's a saint. There are negatives and positives both but when people just go with the flow and assume things like they are and assume that the media is 100% correct... you become ignorant.

Its because America's campaigns are based on slander and drama mixed in with a few half-hearted promises. Its easy to pick sides and loose sight of what's really going on here. Meanwhile foreign people look in and see the bigger picture. Man bernie should have gone on.

Hi big trump fan here. You see if wee had criticism like this, he wouldn't have to be so aggressive in the first place. Most of the time the only real argument people make is "He's racist!!" while they continue to loose there shit. Like hell you lose an argument when you start acting like a psycho. Hell roommate was like that the other day and he expected me to take him serious. all that being said none of them weren't being little babies about it. like even the girl who did compared him to Hitler was still pretty tame and was voicing her opinion in a respectful manner. just had to have my input on this, great video.

I enjoy talking to people who have different views. The problem is that when it comes to politics, a lot of people just start insulting people who don't support who they support. It would be more meaningful if we went through our differences calmly and intelligently so that we can learn about each other and why people support who we support.

@xenoblad
@xenoblad 8 лет назад
I wouldn't call Trump racist, but it seems rather baity to generalize the way he did. It seems more opportunistic then racist IMO, because it ensures that people who are racist will vote for him. He also seem to prepose some pretty ridiculous plans, such as trying to deport 11 million people without invoking martial law(which is the only way to do it, since courts will take too long). A wall to cover the entire southern would cost trillions and would be bigger then the great wall of china by a long shot. On top of that, promising to get Mexico to pay for it seems impossible without using the military or starting trade sanctions. I really don't like Hillary because of how she worked with the DNC to rig the nomination, but Trump just seems like he's lying to win votes. Not that that makes him any worse then Hillary. In fact, they're more simmilar then people think.

I agree with Yuta. You can't just assume to know that the woman is hypocritical because of what her own government does. She may or may not agree with Japan's immigration policy. I mean, how many Americans actually agree with what Washington does? Not many, hence The Tea Party, Occupy Wall-Street, and the various other 'movements' that have come and gone. And, yes, Japan has also held protests.
@ThatJapaneseManYuta
@ThatJapaneseManYuta 8 лет назад
But I'm not assuming the OP is assuming that she doesn't support it. That's why I asked the question. Also, the current government is planning to accept much more low-skilled workers, so that seems to be the direction we are headed.

Liked the video with just some caveats, I think you should upload a video of what people in Japan think of Obama, then people can see how much Japanese people are out of touch with American politics in General. The basic news I see in Japan concerning Hillary Clinton most especially sounds almost as if they get their scripts from CNN in America, even most of the news on Trump in Japan sounds like it's straight from CNN. However in the videos above it was mostly young Japanese and young Japanese get most of their news from the Internet, so my only complaint of this video is it was almost entirely younger Japanese being interviewed, the picture would change were these older Japanese in my humble opinion. However, I was surprised that it wasn't more harsh on Trump, as Trump has made ignorant statements concerning Japan and it's support of US Troops and facilities in Japan. Trump basically is ill informed in the area of Japan's support financially, as Japan already picks up 40% or more of the cost in Japan of the US forces, more so than any other Nation on the planet, and in just my humble opinion is one of the US of A's strongest supporters and it should be vice a versa, although at times I doubt it. Other than the fact that the people being question in the video were all younger generation Japanese, that really is my only slight complaint of this video, very well done indeed. Awaiting the Hillary version with anticipation.

Because she's a woman.... Ha we gotta feminazis here oh boy. No it's not because she's a woman you simpleton it's because she actually did vote for that. +#Never Hillary You want an argument against donald, sure He's already advocated spreading nuclear weapons to more countries, murdering civilians and committing war crimes, punishing any woman who gets an abortion, toss out the Geneva convention and torture people, withdraw from NATO, and ban an entire religion from the country, and create a database of muslims. He said he would deport US citizens and thinks global warming is a hoax created by the chinese, thinks the US should default on its debt, defends the interment of Japanese Americans in WW2. He thinks Obama is a muslim and accused him of not being american and accused him of being an ISIS sympathizer, insulted war heros because they got captured, racially insulted a sitting Senator. He bragged about his dick size in a GOP debate and has suggested he might quit if he's actually elected. He consistently thinks women are only valuable for how they look, with at least a dozen high-profile misogynistic comments. He's called nuking the middle east a plausible option. He has a suspicious number of ties to Putin, and has a history of business deals with organized crime. He's called mexicans rapists and criminals, been successfully sued multiple times for racist rental practices, and said he wants no blacks only jews counting his money. He semi-threatened the pope, mocked disabled people in front of a crowd of thousands, outright threatened violence towards the media and protesters, made sexual comments about his daughters MULTIPLE TIMES, praised Kim Jong Un and Putin and Saddam Hussein, praised the Tianenmen Square massacre. He's flirted with white supremacy - retweeting them, reposting their images with anti-semitic symbols, playing coy about David Duke's endorsement. He's a verified lunatic conspiracy theorist - he thinks the Clintons murdered one of their aides, Obama is a sleeper agent and Ted Cruz's dad helped kill JFK. He could get caught diddling kids and funding ISIS himself and you and his supporters would eat it up.

Goat, you're not wrong there at all. The majority of people I know are voting Democrat, but not because they like the candidate (Hillary Clinton). It's because they dislike the Republican candidate (Donald Trump) more. Most don't want to 'waste' a vote by throwing it to a third party or write-in candidate that has no real chance to win. At this point, it's looking like we're all feeling like "Well, we just have to get through the next four years, and then maybe we can fix this." If only we could have a do-over on this election cycle.

The guy with the blue shirt was incredibly well versed on Trump. Far more than everyone else. I also noticed that a lot of people were pretty guarded on their opinion. Would preface it with something like 'I don't know much about' or "He's good in this way, but ..." kinda stuff. It's very considerate. To any Japanese people reading this, hopefully I can give some information about the popularity of Trump. Trump, yes, is eccentric. Right now, in the U.S. we're kinda at a tipping point, or more a battle if you will, between PC (Political Correctness) vs Free Speech. One reason why people don't trust politicians very often is because they can say something that does sound honest, but then turn around and do the opposite. For Americans, that's a very bad thing. Being nice is important, but being honest is more important for many. Regarding PC. At our universities especially, but among many of our social platforms - people are more or less being told what is okay to think, and what is not okay to think. Of course, this translates into what people can say. Trump is pretty popular much like one of the responders in the video said - he says things that many (like half the U.S.) thinks, but for the last few years have been told you can't say or think it. Nevermind it being right or not, just bringing up the subject is taboo. They see Trump as relatable, and someone who's trying to break this culture we're getting into where even the discussion of a topic automatically labels you as a person who's comment they can dismiss easily. There's one correction in the video that I want to make sure to mention. The idea that Trump is really speaking for poor people, and relating that to intelligence - that's not really the full story. Yes, we do have lower income people, but it's not necessarily related to intelligence (although there is a correlation I'm sure). I think the majority of Trump support is that people in the U.S. are worried about some stuff that's happening lately. Syrian immigrants are causing problems in Europe right now (France, Germany especially) and people are worried about the influx of people into the states. BLM (Black Lives Matter) is seen by many as akin to a terrorist group and don't agree with the process. Even talking about either of those subjects in a negative light will label someone as Racist automatically in the states. Regardless of the factual accuracy of said comments. This turned out way longer than I expected, but hopefully helps explain the reason why Trump is supported here. I think what's happening here, and in Europe, needs to be a warning for Japan though. Your country, you actually have a culture of sorts. You have an identity. Immigration does change that, and you need to be careful of the balance between immigration and the impact on your culture. There are towns in Luton, England (Edit: Germany was removed, corrected by a person in comments) that turned almost like middle eastern towns (if someone wants a video proving that, respond and I'll grab it) - and that's scary for many. I don't think they're overreacting at the idea of holding onto culture.

I don't think it's that much of an exaggeration. Both Hitler and Trump based their campaigns around racism and general xenophobia. As much as he denies it, he's said numerous racist things, many of his policies are xenophobic such as banning muslims from entering the country, and he's even gotten support from the KKK. While I don't think that Trump will commit genocide, I do think that he will only make things worse for our treatment of criminals, criminal suspects, and immigrants, which is already appalling. Whether it's in our courthouses, which you can't deny based on cold hard statistics have racist tendencies, or in our jails and detention facilities which do nothing to rehabilitate those who want to reintegrate into society and have even treated them inhumanely with extreme amounts of solitary confinement that has lasting psychological damage.

I think everyone forget that before Hitler rises in power, he blamed jews for most of the problems in Germany, in kind of the same way how Trump getting elected in the first place. Both men used fear and propaganda to rise in power and gain on people's trust. Prewar Germany had Anti-Jewish Legislation and the country was full of anti-jews sentiment at that time plus people didn't trust their government. Nowadays, Trump was proposing Anti-muslim whatever thing plus a wall and using the worst example of mexican and muslim to "assure" american that only his way will work. The comparison does seem extreme but I can definitely see the connection. No one thought Trump would get nominated or able to last long in the election but here we are now. In a way, how Hilter's rise to power explains America today of Trump, the historical parallel is there for the world to see. Also, Yuta, that's a nice way of putting but in the end, by non-racist things, you mean childish thing?

It does annoy me how America intentionally glosses over stuff to make Japan look bad. People know about the rape of Nanjing and are like "oh Japan is evil" but it's typical in war. The predicted rape figures for the US occupation of Okinawa is around that of the rape figures in the rape of Nanjing. Also, people try and argue that Japan was being aggressive but they were just being imperialist as America and other countries had been doing for years, but Japan gets blamed because they hopped on the bandwagon a little later. Look at the Philippine-American war. A result of American imperialism in which 250,000 Philippine civilians died. Not military, civilians.

Nooope with that Japan-the-victim stuff again ( yes, Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a tragedy)...where I am at, is figuring out why I see the Japanese up there with the Nazis in terms of cruelty during that time period . Maybe ask how the others view them (not Korea and China...it can be a bit intense ...still a lot of immature behavior from both going on now in the media.) You know how we're good with Germany because they accepted responsibility ...well, Japan is the one trying to whitewash history ( Do you teach them about the 'Suicide Cliffs and the victims of Saipan?). No, I am not American.

I'm an American living in Okinawa. The other night some friends and I were walking out in town and a Okinawan man came up to us and was trying to tell us something in very broken English, but he asked us who the new president was. When we told him it was Donald Trump his face lit us and he said "I LIKE TRUMP" with two thumbs up. Such an awesome moment. Made me so happy

And you didn't stop to think maybe he said that because he saw Trump as a comedic entertainment that (I believe) majority of Japanese do? Trump as been very popular in the media for the past year here in Japan as the American precedential candidate who says loud and extreme things, just like Japanese tarentos, they see him as one of them his "thing" or act to fame is saying extreme and ridiculous things that most Japanese will never say so they like him.... again as a comedic entertainment because there will never be a politician like trump ever in Japan only in post 9/11 America you see this B.S.

As an American living in Okinawa, don't you feel bad about how the American government treats Okinawa? They protest the opening of new bases, new bases open anyways (which may destroy the habitat of endangered species). They protest flying so low over the cities with helicopters and fighter planes, and those continue. And they protest the dubious safety record of the new Osprey aircraft, they are brought to Okinawa. Rapes (including a gang rape of a child), drunken soldiers causing fatal car accidents and generally boorish arrogant behaviour by the soldiers there. Perhaps, if you were paying attention, you would reflect on that reality (soldier or civilian), more than some guy asking about Trump. I know that if my country were doing that to those wonderful people, I would be disgusted. But I'm sure you believe in some kind of specious reasoning to excuse the fact that Japan has to pay tens of billions to keep the American soldiers there 70 years post WW2.

Agreeably, there are both good points and bad points, and they accept that and embrace it. I think it also really goes to show how the Japanese people view things.

This video isn't meant for American politicians, it's for people who just want to see other people's opinions. American politics affect other countries too, an example being the treaty between the U.S. and Japan. America isn't a closed off nation completely cut off from the rest of the world, so it's pretty important to be informed of other countries' opinions. One last thing, you say "we don't care what you think," implying that you speak for the millions of citizens living in America. You don't. I think you are ignorant. Your type of mindset will never bring people together, and instead it will separate us and create tension between countries, which is something we don't want.

I would think the Japanese would be more interested in Trump's suggestion for a renegotiation of the US/Japanese treaty, since it would allow Japan to once again have a real military to defend yourselves and your allies in stead of being limited to your current self defence force. I can understand recoiling at the way he acts in the media and his strong statements, that seems to be a big cultural difference between Japan and America. I know there are at least a few Japanese people who strongly support Trump as president, like this girl here: ru-vid.com/show-UCad3S7ZdFxSjF9N1VRcD2Ag She also seems very politically outspoken in general and I find her views quite interesting.

Hmmm...I'm impressed with the thoughtfulness and measured tone of young Japan. I'm voting for Trump although I can appreciate their sentiment on some things. However, one thing I strongly disagree with is the notion that building a wall along the US-Mex border is somehow extreme. On the contrary, the extreme approach would be NOT to build a wall. The US is literally being inundated by unknown people and this has been going on for years. This has serious implications: economic, public safety, national safety, public health, cultural etc. It is NOT an extreme request that a nation should enforce its own borders. Physically if necessary. And we have moved well beyond the point of necessary; it's critical. Every nation on earth monitors who comes and goes. Every nation on earth has the right to safeguard its own sovereignty...be it Japan, the US or anyone else. So, no, this is not in the least extremist; this is clear and practical thinking. Respect to Japan though.

I wonder what the perspective of the lady saying that Trump is like Hitler really means seeing as how Japan was Germany's strongest ally during WW2. Is there the same connotation behind it that an American would have if they said it? It flows well with the Security Treaty between the US and Japan since they weren't allowed to have a proper military after their involvement in WW2. It has been long enough and from what I can tell, Japan has changed so much since WW2 that the treaty can safely be dissolved and Japan should be able to have a proper military again. On Borders, that's funny about them talking about a wall. 942KM of sea is a pretty good wall (between them and South Korea). They have no natural need of such thing since they already have a giant moat.
