Hopefully a constructive comment: maybe for close-up shots eg the valve seat, maybe try to add a few seconds of still image in, which might be a little clearer and could be highlighted/annotated, compared to a moving video. The video was clear, but maybe could have been easier for the viewer to focus on if it was a stationary image. If that makes sense.

If you slow it right down and pause frame by frame, you can expand the image. Your feedback is still valid, as it would make having a good peer at it that bit clearer. Sad end to a performance head. Pretty expensive in parts alone. And how much confidence would you have in any of the components in the affected cylinder? I’d take advice on the valves etc.

Looks like this engine has been run for quite a long while with the damaged valve for the valve to be burnt away that much.

I was interested to know what level of damage dropping the tip would do after watching one of your videos where you said about the R8 on the dyno dropping the tip and it cost you 45 k ...This was a really informative video and again, you've taught me something new ! What caused the the earth tip to come off ? And given the proximity of the plug to the valves could it have tracked out to the valve ? Causing the burnt out valve ?

Hope the owner of this engine. Watched this video 😢 and thinks again about oil changes and full send of the rev limit. Nice video of how high heat can damage engines. Glad this owner was not running NOS as well. Look forward to the rebuild.

I'm sure I've had a Stock map DAZA started to burn out the same valve, not as bad as that - caught it in time on the Missfire - That's what the M in EML stands for

A question in relation to the 2.5tfsi? What kind of things can you do to mitigate or reduce the risk of this kind if thing happening? Reg oil changes? Injector testing? Spark plugs, etc?

I'd be interested to see what the DI seals and tips look like, and the flow results. Seen a fair bit of DI failure and it's due to tuners who don't put enough fuel though them in favour of the port injectors. DI's get red hot if not cooled right. @Rick. is this bad fuel or bad fueling do you think?

Ground strap on these race plugs are too small to save if something goes lean. I’ve had the same issue with the 8-8 ngk. Looks like I was lucky in that there’s no bore damage , misfires and compression still good. More material on the 7-8 or 7-9 ground strap.

That valve looks like the one I had repaired in my K1100 a few years ago, it sounded like a tractor prior to the repair lol😂

I've been doing 3000 mile oil changes for 30 years in my cars, and never had an engine failure ever. Including Range Rover V8's ( four of them, one of them a supercharged model as well) I would recommend that for everyone's car irrespective of what the manufacturer says, unless they specify an even shorter mileage span which I very much doubt.

Hi if anyone can help me I have audi rs3 2018 was driving perfectly until was parked for 2 months outdoor cover parking the battery got flat and had acid lead on terminal we started the car with jumpers the car temperature going high and fan is coming very loud other mechanic saying to buy new battery other saying bleed the pipe please advise thanks

The valve damage is referred to as “guttering” in my industry; Caterpillar gas fuelled engines.

Forgive my ignorance but when you say "plug dropped a tip" I'm assuming that means spark plug. How does the tip drop? Is it a case of it fractures under heat and comes apart or is a poor manufacturing process?

At 2.50 you can see the plug in the cylinder has lost the bottom electrode. Compare it to the plug in cylinder 3.

It needs an electric worm gear drive to aid in travel left to right/right to left operated from a foot switch. It'd be quite simple to rig something up to do the job.

There are two variants of 5 cylinder RS engine, the Dazza is the better engine for higher power capabilities

I believe they would tell you the DAZA engine. It has no OPF and has a more aggressive exhaust camshaft. Some of these features remain or are updated based on which part of the world you're in.

@@michaelw4620 For someone in the UK, I would get an engine from a 2017 or early 2018 RS3. The engine code is stamped on the block. The one that came after the DAZA is called DNWA. You will want the DAZA. That's the best sounding with the most tuning potential.

That’s what happens when you use plugs with hard tip materials like platinum, iridium, etc intended for extended service intervals on a performance engine. Good old copper plugs would have avoided all that carnage.

It does not matter which side of the plug got loose, the thing is that those plugs can sustain a lot of heat by design, a copper electrode would have melted much sooner on a lean condition. @@bowie3000

Hi Ricky. Been watching your content for quite a while now and not only love the videos but I'm also incredibly envious of your knowledge base and experience. Now the arse kissing is over, on to my question. I change my oil every 6k miles and my filter every 12k miles, so oil/oil+filter/oil/oil+filter.....rinse and repeat. Is this a bad practice?
