As a Giants fan, I’m gonna miss Leo and Sexy Dexy together but I’m glad we traded him with the value we got in return! It’s a win-win for both teams. Good luck to you guys and good luck to Leo. You guys are having a great year!
Yeah, this seems like a pretty fair trade. You gets get draft picks. We get a quality rental for very little money. If he leaves in free agency we'll likely get a comp pick in return. If we decide to keep him for a few years then we'd have to give up someone else. We'll see how it goes.
Giants fan here. Williams will add to the Seahawks. Excellent player. The Giants were not making an offer for his 2024 season and after that disaster yesterday the Giants are selling off.
leonard williams is even more known for his run stuffing and TFL than his passrushing ... he has 30 something sacks but 47 TFL and multiple forced fumbles. this is a MASSIVE trade and HUGE W for the seahawks. jarran reed has been playing like a complete savage and having Leo Williams next to him is going to create HAVOC and make bobby wagner and jordyn brooks' job EVEN EASIER to crush the run and force teams into throwing at the secondary... about to be so many turnovers... excited to see the D line next week!
Like the man said, even more value in the rotation. This puts Mario Williams as a rotational guy so you can cycle all 4 (Reed, Jones, Williams, Leo). Not only does the talent not fall off but it keeps guys fresher and less likely to get injured
You don't give away 2nd round picks for a non Pro-Bowl type player, a "run stuffer" pushing 30, entering a contract year. Yes, he'll help the Seahawks, but they gave away too much to get him. The Giants easily won this trade.
Great review. As a Giants fan, one additional plus for Leonard is he a true team captain of the defense getting them pumped up and focused. Really going to miss him on the field. Good Luck Seattle!
The thing that some people are forgetting i think, is seattle has an additional 3rd from the saints/broncos (most likely the saints). If the season stopped today, the extra 3rd is only 18 picks from the 2nd rounder we gave up. That's barely more than half a round. If the hawks go to the Super Bowl and the saints loose a few more, it could be as little as a 10 pick drop. They still have 7 picks in the draft either way. This is a big win and an insurance policy on the teams identity. The hawks are a defensive team right now, and this will help them keep it that way going into the second half of the season.
In less than a week, Seahawks pick up Frank Clark and Leonard Williams for less than 1.2 million dollars in combined cap space and only move back 20 spots in the draft. Brilliant
Giants are eating most of his cap hit so basically buying up to 2nd rounder. hopefully he works out and we're able to resign him. he's a solid DL, glad to get him. Go Hawks! 💙💚
Don't care that we gave up too much. This signals that JS and PC believe we can get to the SB this year with the Niners looking vulnerable. This may or may not work out but who cares? At least we tried and gave our best shot at winning. Love the aggressive mentality of the front office. Just super hyped up and excited that we are going for it man. Now that snake Dipoto needs to learn a thing or ten from this front office.
a 2nd was a big price to pay for a guy hitting free agency. add the 5th in there and this was a great deal for the giants. i was expecting a late 3rd or 4th for him.
It was a great deal for the Seahawks too. His cap hit is less than $700K. Sure a 2nd is a lot, but if they hadn't thrown the Giants a 2nd then Williams would have become a free agent and their would have been a bidding war.
Late 2nd for quality player on the cheap ain't bad. If we don't keep him then we likely get a comp pick in 2025 as high as a 3rd. Not too mention we can roll over the cap savings by not having to pay the man. We also still have the ammo necessary to go over draft prospects we really like. It's a pretty even trade for the most part. Can't fleece the Broncos every time.
It wasn't just a money issue, Leonard Williams said in his press conference that the Giants came to him after the loss to the Jets and laid it out, he's 29, the Giants aren't going anywhere this year, and they had a couple of teams interested who are contenders. So if he wanted to be traded to a contender, let them know and they'll try to work it out. A complete class move by the Giants organization.
Think you might have it backwards. Actually he was never know as a pass rusher. His best year was his contract year 2020 when he had 11 but that was an anomaly. His previous high was 7(2016) but ATM he has around 39.5 sacks over a nine year. Averages out to 4.4. He is more known as a versatile run stopper who can play anywhere on line with some pass rush ability.
Thanks for the video on Williams. I definitely think his talent will be a big plus for the Seahawks this year. But, if he is not in a Seahawk's jersey in 2024, then the loss of the #2 pick, makes this trade a failure in my opinion. Before this trade the Seahawks had a late round #2, Denver's #3 (probably an early round), and then the Hawks late round #3. So along with their #1, having 4 picks in top 3 rounds is pretty sweet I think. Hopefully Schneider can lock him up in 2024 to an extension. Thanks again for the video. Go Hawks!
4 years ago the Giants traded a third and fifth for Williams. Now the Hawks traded a second and fifth for an older player. Great deal for the Giants and not a steal for the Hawks.
If you’re only looking at in comparison of what the Giants traded to get him and what Seattle traded to get him, that’s incorrect. Williams is going into a completely different defensive system under a coach with NFL success, not to mention, NFL defensive success. You don’t think Williams isn’t going to be excited to play? He’s played for two terrible organizations under the Jets and the Giants. Seattle, is a playoff caliber team that is currently ranked 2nd in the NFC and currently leading the NFC West. Williams is also from the West Coast and now he’ll be playing for a West Coast team. Going to a different team that’s a winner with a different winning culture changes players and for the most part they become even better. Seattle now has pieces on all levels of defense, that’s insane. Seattle, did this to be able to disrupt high powered offenses and this move will re-energize Williams and this guy will be a monster with the other players around him. Other NFC teams have taken notice and definitely have to be worried because Seattle is adding pieces to compete now. Giving up a second round pick and whatever else, a fifth round pick, means nothing to Seattle, cause Seattle trades alot during the drafts to move up and down to get players that are talented.
He's going to a top 5 defense and 3rd in sacks. Pete is a coach that gets the vest out of players and its not like Williams play has slipped. The only way this bites the Seahawks is if we can't resign him
@@Ridikuluzt a trade is a trade. You don’t add a premium or discount depending on the teams involved with the trade. There is no different trade chart depending on the team. But if you think the Hawks got a steal then that’s your opinion. My opinion is that the Hawks overpaid. They could have gotten him cheaper 4 years ago. Don’t tell me you think Williams is better now than he was 4 years ago? And considering the 49ers traded a third round pick for Chase Young, it makes this trade for Williams looks even worse. I am not debating that Williams wouldn’t help the Hawks. I am debating that the Hawks overpaid. A third round is enough for Williams and frankly for a third round, I rather have Chase Young than Williams.
@@AW-sn4wu I think it’s apples and oranges if you say Seattle should have traded for Williams, four years ago. Seattle, didn’t have a need/desire to trade for Williams four years ago. The Giants were not considered contenders four years ago and Seattle was in a better position to compete for a division title. Seattle would have had to pay more even back then than the Giants just on that alone. The Jets decided to forgo Williams fifth year option and traded him, just right before the deadline. Meanwhile, Seattle, had hopes to rebuild its secondary, so Seattle was not trying to spend additional resources on the defensive line at that time and Seattle believed they were deep on the defensive line at that time. Trading a player to the same conference New York Giants to Seattle also entails a bigger premium as well, compared to the Jets to the Giants. Yes, I agree, it would be better to get Williams four years ago solely based on age but Seattle just didn’t have a need to do so at that time. In regards to the Chase Young option, Seattle has some decent outside linebackers and edge players currently on the roster with one being Boye Mafe only in his second year and he’s coming on strong so far. Going after Young wouldn’t add to the further development of Boye Mafe. Seattle has a big need to generate pressure and would like to further generate pressure from the inside. With Seattle’s currently defensive scheme, Seattle, cannot plug Chase Young at the 3 tech but it can with Williams. Williams will very likely play 3 tech in nickel and dime packages and possibly split outside at 5 tech on occasions. The defensive scheme Seattle employs allows Williams to play along the entire defensive line but Chase Young could only play outside rusher. It was really a matter of “how many” things you can do with Williams but you can “only do” so much with Chase Young. And right now, Chase Young would play the same position as Boye Mafe and Seattle really likes Boye Mafe and they want to keep playing Mafe. Trading for Chase Young takes away from playing Mafe. So, which is why Seattle traded for more of an interior presence and too be honest, just my opinion, there is a premium on inside pocket disrupters more so than edge players right now. A lot of teams have good edge players but not many have interior disrupters: Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Quinnen Williams, Dexter Lawrence, Cameron Hayward, these guys are like the premium defensive tackles and they are hard to get a solid one. Seattle doesn’t mind paying a little more than the Giants did when the Giants traded for Williams cause at least Seattle believes their window can be right now/soon and so who cares about giving up a second round pick, Seattle believes it’s a late second round pick anyways. Seattle wants to win now and they will give up a second round pick cause they draft well in later rounds anyways. It’s a good trade for both teams, Seattle and the Giants, and especially Leonard Williams who gets to go to a winning team and be closer to home.
I’m glad y’all are happy, seriously. We are also happy . 30 year old player on a expiring contract. We gladly take your second and fifth cause we aren’t going anywhere. Peace
We definately needed more depth on the interirior defensive line. I love this move we needed another run stopping DT that can also rush the passer well.
His numbers are not that impressive but some people fails to account the havoc he creates and allows other rushers to do their job. He can also stuff the run so this is a great addition to the Seahawks after losing Uchena for the season.
I think Leo is great as a giants fan, but most of these reps were made possible by Dexter Lawrence being the best nose tackle in the NFL he gets doubled every play which allows Leo, Kayvon and Ward get 1 on 1s every rep. If the Seahawks DL can make up the difference of what Dexter Lawrence brings they will be a force to be messed with
Dexter Lawrence takes on double and triple teams while Leo gets more 1 on 1 matchups. Big Cat is a good player who benefits from playing next to the most dominant DT in the game.
Last year of his contract, and has had his worst year of his career in 2023...I'll take the 2nd round pick. Good trade for both teams. He will probably play better on Seattle. The Giants defense is dogshit.
Yea, this is a no-brainer. The cap hit for the Seahawks is less than $700,000, which is bargain basement for a quality NFL starter. You got to play three-dimensional chess as an NFL GM and one of those dimensions is the salary cap.
Most likely why it was a 2nd rounder. Giant pay, what 16m + of his contract. If he walks after the season Hawks will get a compensation pick around 3 or 4th in the 2024 draft. Which make it more attractive.
Steal? .......Steal? They gave up a 2nd and a fifth round pick for a player who is turning 30 and entering a contract year. He's going to command at least 20 million a year if they want to keep him after this season. Even if he plays well and stays healthy the Seahawks gave away too much to get him. We're talking about a good player "not great" "never been to a Pro-Bowl". The Giants got more in this trade than they gave to get him a couple years ago. He'll definitely help the Seahawks but the Giants easily won this trade.
As usually happens with the Seahawks - who seem to be one of the more polarizing teams from a free agency standpoint for players - I think there are two things that could happen here. Due to the USC connections and sort of the camaraderie the the team has to offer as well as a chance to make thee playoffs, he could take his game back to the heights of when he was in his prime. Alternatively, he may actually NOT like Pete's schtick, may NOT be a player motivated by winning like a lot of defensive interior linemen seem to be, and he might make us regret this trade massively.
leo is solid. not a gamechanger, but does his job. it was just a money situation. he's a free agent after this year and the giants already have a star dt. the main factor now is how much will the seahawks have to pay him.
What do you mean as usually happens? I don’t really remember the Seahawks having attitude issues with newly acquired players besides maybe Percy harvin.
The first domino to fall in yet another rebuild for the New York Football Giants. Giant fans hope that Jim Harbaugh factors into this equation in the not-too-distant future.
Leonard Willams is a bust! He's had one year in his career with double digit sacks! That's it! This is his NINTH year in the NFL! He was a high first round pick in 2015 out of USC and hasn't lived up to his draft status!
