Chemist explanation: Yup, Orbeez will only suck up water, and the degree to which they absorb water has everything to do with "concentration of water" (in the case of just water, obviously its pretty pure, so the orbeez will absorb till they're about to burst). As you guessed right, there's a LOT of extra stuff in the Monster, such as: sucrose, glucose, citric acid, taurine, natural flavors, sodium citrate, l-carnitine, panax ginseng root extract, ascorbic acid, caffeine, sodium chloride, niacinamide, riboflavin, guarana seed extract, inositol, glucuronalactone, pyridoxine hydrochloride (Note, this is not hydrochloric acid, its actually the vitamin B6, but works as a salt in this case), cyanobalamin (Pulled from caffineinformer). Two to really pay attention to there is the sodium chloride (and other salts) and the acids. Much like how the Hydrochloric Acid pulled water out of the orbeez before, Salt and acids also work the same way, as acids and salts are very hydrophilic (they love water instead of hate water). Some acids at high enough concentrations will even start to pull water *straight from the air* (this is why 100% alcohol is not possible, it pulls water from the air till its about 92% or less). Now, Orbeez are just using the principle of Osmosis to pull water inside, along with using a Super Absorbent Polymer (S.A.P.) chain to absorb that much water. However, you place salts and acids around it, those two will fight back against the S.A.P. chain and try to equalize the water concentration. So why didn't it make them super small like Hydrochloric acid? Well, HCl is a VERY strong acid, far stronger than anything used in monster, even when diluted. So those weak acids would not pull out nearly as much water as HCl did. Would also be interesting to see what happens if you put full orbeez into those non-water based liquids.

Now put the ones in motor oil back in water to see if they will obsorb. I think the oil would prevent them since oil and water dont mix.

With that container of WD-40, when you go to pour, make sure the opening is at the TOP of the can. This makes it so you have to tip the can farther, thus reducing spills.

It bothers me that there isn’t an equal amount of liquid per orbeez in the jars. That can cause so many errors.

Can you try gas & water contaminated gas? Could work as a gasoline dryer.

The reason the monster balls are smaller is because of osmosis. The water flows from areas of high concentration to low, when the balls are in pure water more has to enter them to reach equilibrium than in the monster.

Hey Tyler, you should try orbeez with water, but add different things to the water to test your sugar theory. Stuff such as sugar, flour, cornstarch etc to see if it seperates the substance from the water or fails to absorb all together

Try with reg unleaded and E85 gas, then mix a 1/2 cup of water in separate containers and see if they will pull the water out of the gas.

The Orbeez in the monster jar absorbed as much water as they could until the sugary-syrup in the monster was "pulling" the water as hard as the Orbeez were. You'd likely get the same result if you made some highly sugary water and did the same thing with that.

The effects were obvious because orbeez are hygroscopic, that is, they have the ability to absorb moisture or bind to WATER. Exactly, WITH WATER, ONLY WITH WATER, NOT OTHER WITH LIQUIDS.

These orbez are made of some material that absorbs 100 times it's own weight. I dont remember the name but we had some at my student home that I found in a emergency clean up kit at milton Hershey school. I ended up dumping it bnb in the toilet and it completely absorbed all the water.

Love your stuff. Just a suggestion, Why not use a Tea Strainer when pouring? That way you can catch the said item easier to examine.

Maybe try water with multiple different things, some solid some liquid, mixed into it to see the difference in absorbency. Example: sugar, shampoo, hand lotion, baby powder, etc.
