What Luke Skywalker Saw in BEN SOLO'S Mind (Star Wars Remix)

In The last Jedi, I have always been fascinated by this scene. We hear the crackles of lightsabers, the screams of padawans, and the destruction of various things in the background. I always thought that Luke saw a few specific things when peeking into Ben Solo's mind regarding his darkness.
Its interesting how Luke almost attempting to prevent a horrific future created the horrific future he had hoped to avoid in his brief brush with the shadow.
Enjoy this quick scene remix.

Honestly, this is how i've always saw the scene. Luke looked into his mind and saw exactly what would come to pass, and by doing so he fell for the same trap Anakin did and set these events in motion. Same thing happened in ESB when he see's Han being tortured.

That's exactly, kinda, pretty much the way I saw the movie. It's a bit of a spoiler because Leia sent Rey before she was blown off the ship, but you just think of Hosnian and how he allowed that to happen was probably enough. The Skywalker Academy and Rey's Takodana vision were also in my head, as well as a few other 'unimaginable' things, thinking of what Anakin did and the present speculation of Grogu.
@DaleESkywalker

After Exogol, I think Rey dropped Ben off on Ahch-To by the fire to be in exile for a while to contemplate his atonement arc. I think the questions are... How did he come back? How does time work in the Cosmic Force? What will be his atonement to the galaxy for his wrong-doings? When will we find out if this is a suitable case for a story treatment? *Star Wars: Afterlife* (based on George Lucas' sequel story treatments) My theory is that Leia and Ben disappeared at the same time so she could give her life-Force to him to resurrect him. But first, she took him through something similar to Yoda's journey with the Whills (TCW: Season 6) in the Cosmic Force, but for his personal atonement with his family. Once that is done, I think Anakin could appear as a Force Ghost. After everything is settled in the Cosmic Force, she returned him to Rey. She took him to Ahch-To somewhere in the time frame, before she went back to Tatooine, but after the big celebration. There was supposed to be an arc with Kylo/Ben, Rey, and Luke on the island. That never happened because it would spoil the next movie a bit. It would spoil Ben's death at the end. We are meant to think he's just dead...for now.

It doesn't make a lick of sense. He had already redeemed one of the most evil men in history while being a fledgling jedi. Now, years later he's supposed to be a powerful jedi master and yet he doesn't even attempt to save his nephew? Gtfoh. This was a terrible way to force Luke out of the spotlight and a spit in the eye to fans of Luke and OT.
@isobelduncan
@isobelduncan 8 месяцев назад
@@matthewrutters6842Did you miss the part where I mentioned “trauma”? Let’s recap everything Luke and his family have been through over the years. Their home planet was destroyed and their family and mentor were killed. Both Han and Leia were captured and tortured, Luke had his hand cut off, not to mention the revelation that the monster who’d put them through so much was their own father. Do you honestly expect somebody to go through all that and come out completely unscathed? Luke isn’t perfect, he never had been. Remember when he lashed out at Vader when he taunted him about turning Leia to the Dark Side? In this case, he could sense Snoke’s influence in young Ben. He saw his future and reacted in a moment of panic, but quickly his mistake. Ben didn’t give him the chance to explain himself.

Even from the moment when TLJ was barely released, I always pictured that this was what Luke saw in Ben’s mind, maybe even worse. Considering that Luke already experienced great darkness and despair when he faced the Emperor in ROTJ, for him to say that the darkness in Ben was even greater than anything he had ever experienced makes me think that Luke possibly something horrific. But that’s what so great about this scene, in my opinion: your imagination is allowed to run free with all the possible things Luke saw, and what you don’t see is far worse than anything put to screen. Very well done on the edit!

Some seem to forget he momentarily gave in to rage and tried to kill his own father in Episode VI. He stopped himself in both cases ("It passed like a fleeting shadow, and I was left with shame....") The problem here wasn't Luke reacting to a brush with something that terrified him. It was the fact that Ben woke up and was able to feel and sense Luke's temporary thought of killing Ben in order to prevent that terrifying future. Luke tried in a way that was instinctive to him, and he set the future he didn't want in motion (and with consequence).

It’s funny how people criticize this scene, even when it’s literally spelt out: “it passed like a fleeting shadow, and I was left with shame” it wasn’t Luke’s strategic decision to kill his nephew, it was the Jedi in him that immediately sought to eradicate evil, the same Jedi whose mistakes Luke was too blind to see repeating itself due to him succumbing to his ego and believing his being a legend

@@molliethomas2585 Here's something that you would not expect Ben Solo to say particulary about fandom menace and the one who started it all.... G&G Ben: (Sighs) You know people like him and people like them....I feel very sorry for them honestly. In fact I feel...I just think it's very sad, it's sad to watch people putting so much effort into being angry all the time or forcing it even if there's nothing to be angry about. I know I should hate them because look what the other half of the fandom has to deal with even if they're just scrolling online and they see all this junk, all this crap from these guys and some girls let's not generalize. (Sighs) I just see a lot of myself in them really. I see a lot of what i used to be in many of these fellas especially that guy with the baseball cap uh... I pity him not because I think he's a scum I mean he's definitely rude and....offensive and borish but like...(Sighs) does he really want to be like that all the time. And most important is he really happy, happy with himself, does he have friends I hope he does. Does he have kids I'm sure he does and I'm sure he's good to them... God bless him if there are kids. I'll extend the same sentiment to the other guys you have kids good on you, you have people you love dearly in your life...family...god bless you I hope they're all well. I really do. But at one point you know do you think it's time to take a good look at yourselves in the mirror it's not because I think you're bad or they're bad but look what you're turning into , look at the image and the trap you're falling into just because you're angry at.... make believe. And look I understand I do Hollywood is a backstabber just like the government, just like Wall St. , even the education system has become a scam things that used to be highly valued suddenly don't matter no more. I think I understand the fandoms grievances more than I even want to admit and it's not just...it's not just my immediate fans that are hurting. Ahem. (Coughs) Anyway, you people are becoming an easy target for slander, you got these bozos in the PR and media sites painting you as monsters does that make it right are they right for doing that. You're putting yourselves in a position that is going to forever paint you as someone you don't really want to be. And not for nothing some of you do have a gate keeping mentality.... but you know who else does, you know who else used to be a gate keeper, you know who else used to lash out in anger when something goes wrong or wants to kill everything that brings bad memories... Me. Once upon a time I was a walking definition of entitled fan boy I worshipped ....you guys worship my grandpapa. I worshipped my grandpapa and practically dressed up as a wanna be cosplay of him but with a more uglier mask, I'm sorry my mask doesn't compare to Pop's. (Sighs) You all cheered when Pop slaughtered a bunch of rebels in the hallway in Rogue One.... So did I. And because I acted like an asshole everyone treated me like an asshole, media treats me like an asshole, merchandise prop me up with my old costume, i get hit with the term toxic masculinity, I'm an alt right figure or get called Nazi on twitter and shit.... in a way I'll always be looked at in one way even though I stopped. and you know what I don't care if I still get labeled , I don't expect people to change how they feel about me , I had to earn it I still have to earn it but all the while I don't care what people think of me these days. Some people might change their minds and some will never approve of me. I don't think I'm a complete angel but I'm not a sleeze, shady mofo either. (Clearing throat.) I understand that the climate that we're in...is a jungle the political climate is a jungle and no one is immune to getting censored, or canceled or persecuted like we're in the modern day "Crucible" or "1984" I get that the SJW culture war is...what you are passionate about the most and you don't want entertainment to get overly saturated with it. I get it. The PC culture is out of control but you people are also falling into that trap so now it is easy to get pummeled with slander and uh...I think it's sad. It really does make me sad to see how much anger there is in these people because that's the anger I used to have and it still haunts me. I think you people and that includes you geeks, gamers...I think you need to start looking at yourself in the mirror and make peace. Do I think there will ever be a time when the fandom can hold hands and sing kumbaya all day long, I don't think so but I think maybe look in the mirror and try to save yourself from further self destruction and having a permanent image one that may effect you for the rest of your life. And it's why i can't really hate even if I wanted to I don't have that in me anymore to hate.... i just can't do it. No one deserves it. No one.

Rey who has been listening the whole time brings it up to Ben later on. Rey: I was listening to you and what you said talking about the fandom. Ben: Uh-huh. Rey: Wasn’t expecting you to have such... neutral words I thought you were gonna go hard. Ben; I did. With the truth, a truth that I know they’re aware of but are just losing a sense of.... just becoming more and more out of touch and consumed and when you’re out of touch and driven can you truly by happy? Rey: No.Ben: There is a price to be paid when you behave and talk in a way that has people paint a picture of you. Even though they form alliances within this sub group of the fandom it doesn’t mean everyone else will think kindly. There are consequences with this behavior and toxicity that runs rampant one that i wouldnt wish on anyone because becoming a stereotype, having labels thrown on you even such words as being called racist, sexist, xenophobic, alt-right , incel, even snowflake and SJW, those are some very serious words especially when nazi and hitler gets thrown and that’s very triggering to a lot of people especially those that have survived the Holocaust or know people who have survived that horrific event. I get tired of hearing those words all of them get thrown loosely and It seems that this sub group in the fandom has fallen into that trap of becoming well to some people heroes but then become the very thing they try to avoid being. And I think it’s very sad. I know you probably have some grievances with this group because they said some terrible things about you including Mary Sue. Rey: I used to. And i definitely don’t like the way some of them talk about women and female fans. But when all is said and done Ben they’re all people we don’t know them: the fact of the matter is is that we all need to try harder to be kind because you don’t know what anyone is going through. Ben: I try to remember that. I’m just very protective of you. But if we want people to come together and the fans to treat each other better we have to tell the truth. One that is not trying to push anyone away but try to look inside themselves and have a chance to redeem themselves and everyone is capable of it. Even if you think they don’t deserve it. Rey: Treat people the way (looks Ben in the eyes) you would want to be treated. Ben: Yes dear.

I feel the realisation he came to about the state of the Jedi is something that should’ve been addressed between 6 and 7. As he became a Jedi in his 20’s he wasn’t indoctrinated like the Jedi of the PT, so with that and the fact that his masters and father were there for those 26 years to warn him of their Jedi Order’s mistakes and for him to change it up he should’ve been more naturally proactive in staving off The Dark Side in his Order. It’s your right to enjoy this movie though, not tryna hate.

@@raelshark Yes but i mean Luke specifically, like Ahsoka was indoctrinated by The Jedi just as Obi Wan and Yoda were which is why she found it to be such a shock when she was banished. The only other Jedi who wasn't indoctrinated was Anakin and thanks to that he was more of an unconventional Jedi that did things differently but the Jedi didn't know how to handle that so they restrained him as much as possible which is why he felt they were holding him back. Due to his lack of indoctrination Luke is on the outside looking in when it comes to The Jedi and he's less inclined to agree with what the Jedi of the past did and want to change it up.

@@blo0dybubble330 Like how the Space!Lannisters were just like Jedi in the PT being so incompetent with mental and emotional health that they drove Ben to the DS by making it perfectly clear that they never loved him, never believed in or supported him, would drop him the first chance they get, and by being just the worse they made Snoke/Palps (the person that was grooming Ben since he was a fetus and the twins were too busy fucking each other to notice or care about anyone or anything that didn't boost their own ego) look better by comparison. They were as Thrawn would say "The architects of their own destruction", just like their father they caused the misery they saw.

I find it interesting that both Luke's and Leia's (also Han's) lives fell apart in the same year of 28 ABY. Alongside that, there also would be the succession of the Centrists and the beginning of the Cold War between the First Order and New Republic. Here's the lesson, don't ever mess with Palpatine because he'll ruin your whole damn life out of pettiness. I'm just saying, it was in 28 ABY that Palpatine's plans began to take effect and lead to the war that he would wage against the entire galaxy to reclaim his lost power.

Watching the films back to back you go from seeing Luke redeem Vader and saying he feels the conflict within him, yet this is essentially the next time chronologically we see Luke and even though it’s been sometime since ROTJ I still can’t get behind this sudden change in Luke’s perception of not being able to see the good in Ben, it just is so under developed and Rian just presents us with this scene and we are supposed to just accept it, I get people change and make mistakes but to me and lots of others who have a problem with this scene, it’s still a valid complaint to say it’s underdeveloped, how can Luke go from mandalorian Luke where he wants to train grogu and is all hopeful to this Luke, there’s still so much left to explore and we still haven’t gotten a solid justifiable reason to his change

Why do we say Luke didn't see the good in Ben? Did he not stay his hands? Did he not refrain from striking? Is he not the one who tells his sister "No one is ever really gone"?

00:27 This shot shouldn't have been included in the film. Look, I like TLJ but this shot compared to what Luke is saying just don't match at all. To me, him looking at the saber before igniting it looks too much like he was aware of what he was doing despite him saying otherwise. I feel like it would have been better if the scene went like this: 1. Luke peeks into Ben's mind doing the same hand gesture in the actual film. 2. Luke gets horrified by what he sees. 3. Luke, still looking into Ben's mind and keeping his hand gesture (to illustrate that he's still seeing the visions), quickly draws and ignites his saber without looking at it at all. 4. Luke snaps out of it, then he realizes he's holding his ignited saber on his other hand and feels shame. 5. Ben wakes up and has the same reaction in the actual movie.

I wish we saw what Luke's vision was. Probably Ben killing Grogu. Also, a "boy" is a weird way to describe a 23 year old man.

@1993digifan 3 года назад
You call Grogu a baby even though he is 50 years old. And according to TroKR the temple was blown up by a massive bolt of Force lightning that came from the sky, so if Grogu was there Ben didn't kill him directly and since he was never shown using Force lightning in the movies it can be questioned if he actually did blow up the building or if it was Snoke/Palpatine and he just kept gaslighting Ben to believe that he did and that he meant to send the lightning down.

@@wedgeantilles101 So true, like I've been telling others with the 15~ year gap between the show and TRoKR that is plenty of time for Grogu to leave, just like throughout the first run of Clone Wars I knew that either Ahsoka would leave or die (always leaning more toward leaving if only so they could keep using her character) to explain her not being in RoS. Knowing Ahsoka's best chance was leaving the order might be one of the reasons I'm one of the few who didn't throw a fit about how that arc ended.

I know this comment is late, but a point several people make is that Luke shouldn’t even thought of igniting the lightsaber, and that even this slight act of instinct is completely against his character. And while I can understand this point of view. I feel like people are blowing it waaay out of proportion. As if it’s completely out of the ball park of his character. Which it’s honestly not. This is pretty much what happens with his father. Vader threatened to corrupt leia, and turn her to the dark side. This was the final nail in the coffin of turning Luke to the dark side. He was pretty much submitted to fear and was going to execute Vader before coming to his senses. Then he threw his lightsaber and refused to fight. This moment is no different. But I want to emphasize that Luke’s submission to fear was way more extreme during the fight with Vader, than it was in this scene. And that’s another point that people make. That since he already learned not to submit to fear with Vader. That him making the same mistake with Kylo is against his character. And I would agree with this point if it was true. But it’s more complicated then that. With Vader he did fall to the dark side. He was going all out and was going to kill him, but stopped at the last possible second, when he saw Vader cybernetics. It’s ironic how people interpret the scene with kylo as Luke wanting to flat out execute him. When that’s exactly how kylo sees it, when he tells Rey his point of view. That Luke was armed to kill him. When Luke literally says “out of pure instinct”. He wasn’t thinking of killing him. He just turned his lightsaber on as a quick defense mechanism. It’s like when you’re startled by a jump scare and you lift your arm up to protect you. He didn’t want to kill kylo. It was just a reaction to seeing visions of his friends and loved ones dying. Just a reflex. And just like with Vader, he stops at the last moment and does the right thing. I can understand why people still don’t like this scene. It could’ve been handled better. Or re done in a more articulate manner. But just because it was poorly done doesn’t mean it’s against his character.
@amado9923
@amado9923 2 года назад
Imo it wasn’t poorly done at all. Another really important point is why the instinct was even there. Why he didn’t learn from his mistake in rotj, and the way I read it is that following the events of rotj and beginning to rebuild a new order, he succumbed to his ego. He fell in love with his own legend: Luke Skywalker, savior of the galaxy, Jedi master. Thus, he was blind to history repeating itself and he ended up reinstating the Jedi order as it was, with all its flaws. So it was his Jedi instincts that ignited the saber. In a sense, he was right to want the jedi order to end, but the problem was that he couldn’t shake off his guilt. It took one final lesson from Yoda for him to be able to move on and redeem himself. Anyways, sorry for the late reply lol. TLJ is not a perfect film but I love it’s themes. We’re all human. We don’t have to be perfect to be a legend.
